Claws/Willpower

Snarky

Recommended Posts

I have only experimented with claws. Never ran it more than a few low levels or days. I am looking for a good oairing for a Willpower Brute and Claws is right there

of course we are talking derivative city. Even Deadpool (er the one Deadpool shot in the head with arm blades) was derivative of Pullverine. Great Tank name i just realized lol

anyways i am wondering if anyone has build ideas for willpower they will share?  I am thinking 45% s/l def and from there not sure where to go. Do you chase high health or high resist or is it dependent on planned use more. (Running incarnate higb energy and ooss psi res?). I have more questions than answers. About 95% sure about softcap on s/l

Deadpool is based off of Deathstroke. Claws/regen is still more popular than Claws/wp, even on brutes. I got mine to 50, but I haven't looked at making a build yet. I believe someone posted one some months ago so you might want to do a search for it.

You ever roll the build? I have mine at 50 and it is my main/namesake, but I haven't invested it it yet. I have been playing it and decided I need a rework for a common IO level and figured out my alpha. Also kind of bumping to see if others have feedback,

Is it too late to bump this?

Am I a necro poster now??

Sorry, but this was the number 2 post on google when I searched this combo.

@Snarky, I know that you are a lover of /Inv, but did you ever get this built?

And @Without_Pause, what about you?

I mostly play toons that are homages to my favorite characters, and Wolvie is number 1 for me. I had a claws/regen scrapper back on live, and I haven't fiddled with re-rolling him yet.

I am not a fan of CoH claws.  I did end up with a Energy/Will Brute after the energy revamp.  Then, inevitably, a Energy/Invul.  Invul is just better these days with I/O.  Recently figured out another reason why.  The resist value of a power is also it’s own resistance to resistance debuff. Those high values on Invul are very tough and S/L even impossible for enemies to debuff.  I love Willpower but Invul is just more powerful once you I/O it properly

Back on a Dark/Invul Brute soloing the game. Just finishing up 30-34 content over next couple days

I tweaked a build another player game me as I found a couple of errors in it if I was seeing things correctly. I know they said they had a better version, but weren't using Mid's at that point so they didn't have a newer version of what they had. I might need to nuke my Incarnate picks. I might be able to put something together later on.

I still haven't tried Inv even though everything on paper makes me think it will fit me quite well. I have a EM Scrapper at 36. Not a fan of TF's animation time. It has an unofficial combo system which leaves me going, "But why?" You need to hit 32 to have a decent ST attack chain unless you take the T1 early. It absolutely does overly good damage all things considered even if its style is a lesser match for me.

Powersets go way beyond attack chains and optimization.   Until they don’t ( i run a ice/cold corruptor in SG incarnate trials because it is stone cold badass). But for everyday play, hour after hour, I am on that Dark/Invul Brute.  Dark…crappy AoE.  Arguably wonky ST, good but talk about late blooming. The cornerstone is the tier 9 attack backed up by the combat heal and the tier 2.  Looooooong animations.  Shadow Maul is a must, you have to learn it, and it is a miserable bitch to ride.  But….one of the least resisted power types in the game.  Strong ST to bring down the tough opponents, and so much vampire style.  The combat heal props up Invulnerability powerful but slow Dull Pain and you get an end recovery power that acts as a ghetto aoe. Also, in my opinion, one of the best build ups on the game for a serious melee fighter. Invulnerability…. Just what it says.  The synergy, especially with high recharge…priceless.  But it is about what the sets do, how they define the character, that is what keeps me playing them.  Nothing says undead to me like an Invulnerable juggernaut that drains opponents for health, endurance and scares them witless and screws their aim with all the power of death.  Style.  That is what will define your character and whether those power sets will work for you.  Good luck

Truth. That's why claws/sr is so freaking awesome. Dead sexy slice-n-dice, nyah, nyah, can't touch me.

I do have a claws/wp scrapper as well, but she's been stuck in the 30s and untouched for ages.

I had a Dm/Wp br00t back on live that I was soloing redside on when it we were shut down, and I currently have a Em/Rad scrapper I am putting the final touches on( that should have probably been a br00t), and a Fm/Inv br00t that I played near nonstop when Homecoming became public knowledge.

I love both Em and Inv, haven't tried Dm since shut down.

I feel the same as @Without_Pause about Em and it's single target chain.

@Bill Z Bubba, have you ever given any though to a Em/Sr toon, or would that wind up killing itself from the self damage.

Altitis can be a pain sometimes.

Thanks for the responses.

P.s.

Please ignore the discombobulated way my thoughts are strung together.

My brain just ain't right.

You just described my most recent scrapper:

But yeah, back on Live in the first month of the game I made a DM/ Inv scrapper (well before Brutes or IOs were a thing) and he was a mini-tank. Nowadays with IOs.... Someone remind me why I have never revisited DM/Inv?

I need to get back playing my Claws/wp since I have hardly played it after doing a final build. My currently lean is liking it versus loving it, but that might be due to playing EA so much and running into a BP map with WP and just watching my health bar melt in ways I didn't know could happen on a Brute. I feel like I like Claws on a Scrapper better for reasons, and have a Level 19 Claws/ea Scrapper as I think that might be the best take on Without Pause yet. v1.0 was a Claws/regen Scrapper.

In terms of style and what works for me, I feel like I have down what works for me regardless of what others say and there are times trying out new things I get surprised by how much I start playing something, see a Fort and Rad/ice Tank. Some sets can vary widely depending on the AT using it.

The build is from @ClawsandEffect. Unless I am missing something, the set bonuses in Synapse's Shock for Stamina and QR would be the same if you swap in Performance Shifters but also get 1.875% Health from each since you know have three slots of PS. You would be missing out on the run speed benefit, but being a HP Brute I would rather have more HP. I also took Strike instead of Swipe. They also said their live version of the build is softcapped to all types and S/L resistance is close to 80%. I haven't looked at attempting to add that in. Only P/T aren't capped on this build, and getting both to be capped seems like it would take some effort if at all possible. S/L resist is only 64% though so that can be worked on. At least that's what I'm seeing live. The point of the build is high HP and regen. I'll probably try out a few Incarnate abilities before deciding.

Update after a bit of playtesting: My Incarnate picks were quite different than those listed, but it was early in my going through them, and I know more now. I went Barrier for Destiny, and I think Ageless Radial would be better for the debuff resistance. One can get more def, but it is the debuff which screws WP.

One of those I kind of knew things, but Bill and I will agree Eviscerate is highly skippable. If you want it for the bonuses you can get from it, then fine, but I had a comfortable amount of AoE going just with Spin and Shockwave. I hadn't known about the differences in recharge for Spin between Scrappers(9.2 seconds) and Brutes(14 seconds) until recently, but at least I know all the more to skip Eviscerate on my Scrapper.

Yea, eviscerate sucks on scrappers even with its higher crit chance. Sucks on tanks even with the bigger cone size and number of enemies hit. Sucks on brutes because it gets nothing to help it. And REALLY #*$&#$*&#$ SUCKS on stalkers because they turned it into a single target attack and dumped spin... then turned around and left all the savage AoE quite untouched.

Edit: I might still be a bit bitter about stalker claws.

Anyone care to share how to exactly slot Invuln to make it such a great tank or brute? I've fiddled in mids, and can't seem to get all resists capped.

Here's my version (Inv/SS), but I also tag along on fire farms, so it's a bit modified (I also live with the Arachnos blindness and take Pyre mastery (instead of Energy mastery), to slot the +absorb proc on Char...and to have a ST hold for Sappers, and the like).  Data chunk is without the MoT AT and the stat snip that follows is completely incarnated.

Add 6.7% to each Resist below, x2 on many occasions:

image.png.62a0db643572c6654660467ce485f433.png

And keep in mind that Inv is a layered/complimentary set, so with 50% DDR, you rarely lose your defenses and, as you can see with 10 mobs around you, not much gets through...

Note: That's fully saturated Invincibility.
You tend to get a lot more mileage of of capped Defense with 0-1 enemies in range.
Also, you could probably turn Tough off, and be fine (with an even lower resting Endurance consumption).

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

Anyone care to share how to exactly slot Invuln to make it such a great tank or brute? I've fiddled in mids, and can't seem to get all resists capped.

Basically, outside of a Remote Suicide button like Unstoppable.  You're going to have a VERY difficult time capping all Resists and all Defenses.
Doing it full time is basically not doable.

However with Rune of Protection, it's possible to get REALLY close.

Here's one out of my "Mo Durable/Dame Durable" line.  You trade +Rech for enhanced toughness.

I love how a /Wp thread evolved into a lesson on /Inv

To be fair... my claws/wp didn't survive my latest purge. She was 45. Stripped and nuked just last night. Only WP user left is Bunny Fufu and he's still in the 30s. And has SS... so might get nuked soon too.

That seems to be the gist of my /Wp toons, whici is why I came here to the boards for help.

I'd be up for both. Never got a tank past the low 20's.

That was before the revamp.

And a big thanks to everyone who contributed to the conversation.

Happy to help...and I'm the guy who winds up talking tanks...in all sections 🤑

Here's WP-F.  Started him to fire farm ('cause I'm a tank guy) and, in the absence of ITF-scale defense debuffs, can deflect, defer and regen through damn near anything.  Using Vorpal Judgement really makes his defense numbers silly...  I will agree that Fiery Melee is not the best at anything, but does have nice places for the ATOs.  I also go "against the norm" and routinely use the T9.  Can't have a toon named "Will", without using the power "Strength of WIll", right?

Props to @Sovera, as much of the WP side of this build is borrowed (stolen) from one of his builds and to @Warboss, for his template for Fiery Melee and, as his signature states:  "Nothing warms your opponent like fiery melee"...
