Couple questions for the Rad/Rad experts!

So I had a couple questions concerning Rad/Rad that I have not been able to find concise answers to.

1: Does the +Absorb from Particle Shielding stack with other absorbs? Like from Preventative Medicine proc?

2: What are considered the skippable powers in your opinion from either set? Ground Zero appears skippable from a solo standpoint but others have stated it is a great power for throwing Procs into? The build just seems very tight with everything.

3: Mids does not seem to have an Accuracy number for Irradiated Ground as far as I can see but it accepts accuracy enhancements. What is the actual Accuracy of this power?

4: How would you tweak this build. This character is a little of everything. Solo, TFs, etc.

Yes

Ground Zero is not skippable. It's a 2.0 damage scale PBAoE with a 15 foot radius that can hit 30 targets. It does more damage than Atom Smasher, although half of it is a DoT. Proton Sweep is probably the most skippable power, but you don't pick up any other AoE until level 26.

It's standard 1.0 (75%) accuracy. Keep in mind that you'll also be running Beta Decay, which is autohit and has a defense debuff.

Slot Radiation Therapy for healing, not damage procs.

You want Beta Decay well before lvl 47 - it's you taunt aura, it provides a recharge buff and it debuffs foe defense and tohit.

You don't need 3 slots in Stamina. Between Radiation Therapy and Gamma Boost, you'll have no endurance issues.

Ok I took your advice and fit Ground Zero into the build. Had to dump Rad Smash and Sweep. I think my single target rotation will be ok with Contaminated, Gloom, and Devastating. How does this look? Tried to get S/L/M defense up without sacrificing too much. Do you think I will have issues with endurance or is particle, Gamma, Rad Healing enough to keep me floating high? Thanks again!

My dark/rad tank finds that while procs are generally bad in toggles that the "drop patch" mechanics of irradiated ground make it an exception-- I have every proc I could fit into irradiated ground and it does huge damage. I have eradication chance for energy, scirocco's chance for lethal, obliteration chance for smashing, lady grey chance for negative, Armageddon chance for fire, and achilles' heel chance for res debuff in there.  Things just melt.

My understanding is that this may be a bug and that eventually the irradiated ground use of procs may be revamped-- but until then it's fairly insane.

Ground Zero is definitely a six slotter for only damage procs. It has a 90% proc rate then. You have 3 different IOs giving the power recharge, that ruins your proc chance. It's a set that's better to just use procs.

You'll essentially have a nuke that can get 30 targets.

I disagree with a previous commenter regarding Radiation Therapy slotting. I also proc it out for damage procs and you then have a 2nd nuke, one that works for the Position taskforce.

Honestly gloom and dark obliteration aren't going to do much for you. I wouldn't waste the slots in them, and honestly I'd get rid of dark obliteration as with 2 pbaoe nukes, atom smasher, and spreading contamination you'll do more than enough AoE damage. Gloom you could keep if you need a ranged attack to pull something but you have taunt so you don't really need gloom either.

Also I wouldn't give taunt that many slots either. 1 usually does the job.

Just food for thought.

Alright great points and real world experience (which is what I want the most)! I have made a few changes.

Ground Zero now has 6 damage procs. This too many? Am I missing something more powerful?

Using Irradiated Ground with the two -res procs and one negative damage proc. I have the two piece Gladiator set bonus to max my fire res.

Still have Gloom and Obliteration for now. Do you think these are a waste still and what would you swap them out with? I have Gloom to fill in a single target attack chain and Obliteration to fill in AoE damage periods.

Oh yea and my taunt is 4 slotted mostly for the set bonuses. Waste of time in the long run?

Procs are pretty crap in toggles.

It's awesome in Ground Zero though.

Okay, but if the build has plenty of recovery, why not skip the endurance reducer and put in a proc that will fire a non-zero number of times for a beneficial effect? I can understand not wanting to double up on the Achilles Heel so that you aren't wasting procs on redundant debuffs, but there are more than one -res options, like a Fury of the Gladiator in Ground Zero?

Ok can't figure this out. Particle Shielding is now giving me a 890-ish shield when before I put any IOs in it was giving close to 1070. I had two lv 50 Heal IOs in it before and now I have Preventive Medicine IOs in there giving me about the same +absorb. Why would I get a massive decline in the shield when using a set over just IOs? Missing something obvious?

Rearranged your powers slightly for more comfortable exemping.
Also  KICK >>>>>>>  Boxing.  At least if you're not slotting anything, you can toss a +Rech proc in.
With Boxing, most of the procs are of no realistic use.

Irradiated Ground wants to be 6 slotted with damage procs and the two different -resistance procs. Ignore acc, damage and etc.

I can't answer your question without seeing your slotting. Can you screenshot Particle Shielding?

Rearranged your powers slightly for more comfortable exemping.
Also  KICK >>>>>>>  Boxing.  At least if you're not slotting anything, you can toss a +Rech proc in.
With Boxing, most of the procs are of no realistic use.

It doesn't really matter what procs you slot if you're not using the attack. Neither Kick nor Boxing are likely to ever make an appearance in your rotation. Even if they did, their chance to proc would be very low due to quick recharges.

Yes, I've seen this advice so many times and I don't understand it. Perhaps under level 20 I'd use something that has no slots but even then.

Sorry, I'm an inveterate min-maxer.

I want to see SOME sort of benefit from a forced power choice.

Is it weird that I kind of want to skip Radiation Siphon?

I mean the golf-swing animation is hilarious and all, it reminds me of ST:TOS fight "choreography," but it's interminably long and the heal only triggers on Contaminated targets.

Ok, so it hits harder than Smash, but Smash can slot a FF +rech ....

You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

Good damage and a fat heal? Yeah, sorta. More importantly what would you replace it with? Devastating, Smash, Siphon, Smash is a good rotation.

Fair points, I thought it might just be me.  😄 Mostly I'm struggling with fitting in power choices on Rad/Rad.  I mean Tanks are forced into taking Strike, which I'd probably skip on a Scrapper or Brute.  But isn't the T1 attack where 'Bruising' comes from, or is that -res not worth trying to keep around?

I suppose Meltdown could be dropped as the +dmg is lower on the tank version than for other ATs.  Also GZ and Atom Smasher aren't likely to be up often enough to rely upon for a mostly AoE focused setup.  With the recent buffs to AoE radius for tanks I those are keepers - pretty much the main reason I rolled the combo.

Does the heal come ever into it's own?  At lvl 20 "Contaminated" is just flat out unreliable.  As a heal Rad Therapy is just .... Better.   To be fair I do like the idea of two heals, but after I realized that Siphon was dependent on the mechanic I was less enthusiastic about it.  I'll be keeping it for a while though, maybe after I get Irradiated the "Contaminated" effect will be more reliable.

I'm not really acclimated to slower attacking sets, although I am enjoying the slower pace on the Tank since it frees me up to focus on leading a team for a change (as opposed to my usual Scrap/Brute soloing).

You get good Contaminated out of Irradiated Ground, Devastating, and Fusion. Siphon is so good you might not ever feel a need for Radiation therapy/Shielding.

But you're correct that Rad Armor supplies your needs in terms of defense. While Rad/Rad may be more thematic some mix and matching might have worked better with a secondary that could have used the extra Siphon heals (elec armor for example), or a primary without them (Shield for example).

I've personally been on a Rad Armor binge and found I never take Meltdown but that's a personal thing since I dislike mini nukes (and nukes) due to their CD. I've also stopped playing Rad Melee since I loathe slow animation. As for a substitute... well.. Maybe Air Superiority from Fly, and I hear good things of Cross Punch.

The build up power ( fusion?) Gives 100% chance for contaminated for the duration. Meaning you've got a reliable heal (even if it's on a long recharge)

Doh! I completely forgot about Fusion - haven't gotten there yet because I still take travel powers like a Rube, lol.  If Siphon turns out to be more reliable that might free up Therapy to slot up for dmg rather than heals.  But it still gets ToE +End.  That proc in a PBAoE heal feels almost like cheating. 😄

Ditto on the Rad Armor kick.  Did I get the power names mixed up?  Meltdown is the T9 extra +res, +dmg, +recovery, I thought?  Ground Zero is the nuke, no?  Actually, Rad/Rad is my first time matching sets (wanted to use wordplay in the toon name), and I wanted to try it out on a tank to get both of the mini-nukes (GZ and Atom Smasher) with the radius buff added recently.  But you are likely correct, mixing either Rad Melee or Rad Armor with something that doesn't have similar strengths would probably be objectively stronger when kitted out. Trying to get used to the slow animations, but it is a nice change of pace from button-mashing Savage or Katana as I've been doing lately.

It's also the first Tank I've ever made as well, lol.  If I were to drop Siphon (sounds like I won't) I would be using the room for something utilitarian (Hasten, Leadership pick, etc) or an Epic choice.  No need to sub in something lack-luster. 🙂

Bruising was removed with the January tank changes.
