What are your guys thoughts on a Ice/Ice brute? I am currently rolling one but wanted to hear other peoples opinion on the overall set up itself.

Personally I also like the tier 9 ice armor power on scrapper (icy bastion), over hibernate that brutes get.  Scrappers can actually get both as they can get hibernate in their ancillary pool if you want it.  I'd go ice/ice scrapper myself.

That's interesting.  I always felt Ice^2 was pulled from COV Beta far too quickly (it was in literally the very first build, then someone voiced this concern and it got yanked without actuallly, you know, testing how it played).  I may have to try it out.

Ice melee makes some sacrifices to gain some solid CC options (I have a lv 30 Ice/Shield brute and I think ice patch may be better mitigation than my toggles at the moment) which doesn’t fit the brute aesthetic. It may have been pulled from brutes when frozen aura still did no damage as well, don’t quite remember the timing on that.

 

That’s not to say it’s a bad set, but rather I believe the thought may have been that it wasn’t very brutey.

 

I’ve had no real issues with my ice/sd so far but cab’t speak specifically to the ice/ice combo.

Yeah, TBH I always had my doubts a bout a straight port of Ice for Brutes based on that, Luigren, but I always thought the whole idea was just abandoned immediately, when they could have done some tweaks to Brutes' versions of the powers (like maybe make Chilling Embrace give less -Rchg slow, so foes can still attack some, but maybe more -Dmg to compensate, and make the Ice Melee attacks generate more Fury than others to account for the slows there).

 

And you're right, Ice Stomp became a thing much later, at least Issue 11.

All in all, I am still rolling my Ice/Ice brute and I love him. Fury is no problem still and Ice patch is OP for the "Oh crap!" moments in close range.

To the OP, for what is worth, I teamed today with an Ice/Ice Brute and trust me, he was totally OP, he tore through all kinds of mobs and AVs on a Maria Jenkins arc tanking and kill..erm *arresting* at same time (he was a dmg dealer but Chilling Embrace and icey cools do wonders with aggro).

I'm running a DM/Ice Brute and it is stupidly strong.  Double PBAoE end transfers (one with a +Def per mob component), a PBAoE build-up, and two heals, along with -ToHit attacks on a +Def armor set?  Yeah, <bleep!>

 

I was lucky enough to have played */Ice Armor during the CoV Alpha/Beta cycle and was always amazed that it was pulled before going Live.  Never once did I feel as though I was underperforming as either a tank, or as a Fury-capped DPSer.

 

You won't be let down and, if anything, you'll show teams just how awesome it is

Scrappers and Stalkers get Icy Bastion over Hibernate. Unenhanced, it's 37.5% resistance to everything but psionic, some status effect protection, 400% regen and 200% recovery. Lasts 30 seconds, has a 300 second recharge.

My main on live was an ice/ice tank but when we got HC it became an ice/ice brute been through a few respecs this build was just to see what defence numbers i could get for an icex3:

These are great builds, I will be trying them out. I haven't ever had an issue with fury on this brute and I still continue to play it.
