Dominator Farming

I don't do farming, but the way my Plant/Savage goes through normal spawns at +3/x8 it should have no problems handling a farm at +4/x8... I only run +3 in case an AV drops by. Plant shuts pretty much everything down (and it's not like you'd be farming Confuse-resistant mobs except for practice in dealing where Seeds isn't useful), then Savage has a lot of AoE plus Creepers and Roots to eat minions fast. Then you have a lot of bodies to fuel tentacles so you get multiple tentacles hitting the Bosses... and they're hitting each other, too, due to Seeds.

Plant/Earth and Plant/Thorns would also be good AoE options.

Plant/Psi/Psi (at s/l cap - my normal day-to-day build) or Plant/Psi/Fire (at fire cap - higher damage due to fire rain & ball, for testing purposes)

If I feel like it, I s/l or fire farm at +4/x8. Reaches about 2/3 of top farming brutes inf speed. Haven't tested with the new xp/inf changes though.

If I really wanna FARM I use my spines/fire brute though. Also brute is better for afk farming, dominator needs to be more active, but also more fun with a gadzillion of tentacles waving around and enemies smashing each others faces due to seeds.

My Plant/Psi/Fire Dominator is a very fun brute/tanker fire farming alternative.

Soft capped Fire/Cold Defense, capped S/L/Fire resists.

+4/x8 no problem once you have Ageless. Run in, drain psyche, succeed.

I have done it with my Elec/Psi/Elec Dominator, but it isn't the fastest way to farm. Just different.

To pull it off, I special built a set of Energy based NPCs. Energy Blast and Beam Rifle, mainly. Then built for Ranged/Energy Defense. Confuse each pack with Synaptic Overload, then drop a Sleep patch, then super speed in and hit Power Sink, which eliminates any potential melee attacks and refills the blue bar. Drain Psyche then provides a source of regen to keep from dying.

There are probably more efficient ways to do it. This Dominator was built for PVE and could probably be made more efficient.

Right after I posted this I got invited to a fire farm, and to my surprise, the farmer was a Dominator.

Plant/Fire/Fire to be exact. She was pretty good too. I don't know how the timing worked compared to a Brute, but I didn't feel like clear speed was slow.

Yes it was you. 🙂  You carried my Plant/Kin who has been sitting at level 47 for 6 months to 50, so thanks for that.:)

No problem....I give out free farms all across the servers a few times a day. I appreciate the feedback you guys have given. For those that commented I would love to see your dom in action. Let me know what server your on and I will come pay you a visit.

I 'farm' on my Plant/Fire/Fire, but its on battle maiden-style maps (specifically, the battle maiden mission).  Definitely not slow in terms of clear speed but can't handle sitting at the aggro cap, so no asteroid farms for me.

First was a Earth/NRG then made a MC/NRG ( didnt have to soft cap either of them, Def in the 30-35 range, resist type didn't matter. always +4/8, perma dom) I then became curious about fortunatas and haven't touched my Doms again sadly. Earth was for sure the easiest and safest but MC allowed me to ramp up kill speed.

Plant/Psi/Fire seems to be growing in popularity. I met like 5 over the last 5 weeks. I also built one. Was one of the rare 800-900 mil inf builds. But I seriously find farming with her more relaxing than my brutes.

Link to the build discussion.

Plant/Psi - Fire, 33% to all defenses, perma-hasten-ish, no incarnates. - Dominator - Homecoming

I'll tend to help a friend get a few levels from time to time in the Comic Con fire farm max settings.  I use my Mind/Nrg/Soul.

She's not quite spec'd for the farm with extra fire resists specifically but it's still an eventful go.  I tend to do quite well but it can get a little more intense if the helper decides to run off and do his own thing.

I recently retooled my Elec/Psi Dom and have some success farming with him as well. I've forgone Fire Farms for custom made Energy based farms, which are far from perfect.

I was originally specced as Elec/Psi/Mu, but I found single target damage in that setup extremely lacking, and bosses took far too long to bring down. So I swapped to Elec/Psi/Primal. This added Total Focus, which is a power I dont normally like, but with the heal in Drain Psyche its pretty dreamy.

The build is a cross-up farmer/PVE content build which is how it landed as an Energy farmer. Energy Defense happens to overlap with Ranged Defense, which is more accessible to Dominators than most other Defense types, and more practical in "everyday" content. It isn't quite capped to either. I haven't decided if it's worth the investment when a single purple carries me over the top.

I suspect Plant Control is strictly better at dishing damage. I'm not sure about the safety part. I have a Plant/Kinetics character and the comparison is hard to make.

One thing I did figure out about Electric Control that had never dawned on me before is that Static Field should be slotted with the Dominator +Damage proc. I used to just single slot Static Field with 1 Accuracy, now it gets the full Dom ATO set. The Damage proc has a very high chance to fire in this power and it can stack. I now have Static Field on a macro to place under current target and I cast every time it is up. It turns out the Sleep effect stacks. This solves a common survivability problem on farms where enemies rushing toward you are uncontrolled--with Electric they hit the sleep patch and pass out. Even work on bosses.

i am running a plant/Psi dom and can do fire farms at +4 but normally run +3 (seems faster) my favorite is the asteroid map.  i have done smash lethal ones but alot of them have some silly debuffing  or something. i can still do those but fire farming is easiest for me , if you are interested in the build id be happy to post it.

Yes please! I'm still looking for the best Creeper slotting. Not sure if procs are worth it in Creepers...

procs are ABSOLUTELY amazing in creepers, doing so can and does make plant control the most damaging control set.  mostly because the creepers will follow you even after you have moved on from the original patch, it may take time (they seem to be very slow moving) but you will notice the creepers still pop up throughout your mission even when you haven't cast it in awhile.  this is not a budget build, this is perma dom before hasten and perma drain psyche.  Opening should be one of the two defensive incarnates (if you dont have them yet use seeds).

once you get drain psyche rolling you are pretty much immortal.  the trick is keep drain pysche on CD as long as you have a decent sized group around you, if it runs out before the next mob use seeds.

like i said i use the asteroid farm since mob density is high i am able to keep creepers going and its easy to keep drain psyche full charged, deaths will happen but once you get a feel for it...they are very few and far between.

i have never figured out how to do the forum export without filling up 10 pages so here is the data link in this spoiler:

everything i have done here has gone towards high recharge and max survivability but the damage is still super strong. try it on the test server you will find it is super good.

edit: this is also great for any content:)...if i had room i would add taunt to it and tank TFS:)

edit 2: Link Minds will also need to be cast on cd drain Psyche will cover the gap and vice versa casting seeds if both are down at the same time somehow is crucial or of course one of the two beautiful incarnate defensives

edit 3 both link minds and drain psyche are perma with hasten on, if you forget hasten there is still only a very very small gap 5 seconds for Drain Psyche and 18 seconds for link minds:)

Out of curiosity I just did a few runs of that map (only two as it was late).  The first time I died once and took about 7m30s (and ignored the buffer), the second one zero deaths and about 6min.  Definitely not speedrun times but I think not bad considering these are my defensive stats...

image.png.85087eb7bfafb73676f094369450aa3c.png

there was a lot of insp eating and a little bit of mob kiting.

Definitely at the start of the run it's tougher since you can only confuse/hold so many enemies at once but the mobs thin out very quickly to where it's just confused bosses beating up on each other.  Probably if I had capped fire def/resist that's what I'd do - run to each mob and quickly nuke minions and LTs and then gather all the bosses together as much as possible.

Still, that I was able to do it at all relatively smoothly is really a testament to the strength of Plant Control since I have almost zero damage mitgation from my secondary, ancillary, and incarnate powers.  Seeds of Confusion and Carrion Creepers absolutely do not screw around.

Edit: I also got 2 purple recipes out of the deal! 😆

That is a great time! Mitigation is the key with squishy farming and as you said plant has loads of it.

Long time farmer here (on both live and HC). On HC I have several common brute farm builds, and some scrapper and tank farmers.

I recently decided to make a Dom farmer, and went with what I remember people using back in the day a lot, fire/psi/fire. I just hit 50 today, and my build in mids looks amazing.

That said, I'm a bit shocked that everyone on here seems to be using plant doms. I did look at plant, and I just don't get it. How is it so strong or better than fire??

That said, I'm a bit shocked that everyone on here seems to be using plant doms. I did look at plant, and I just don't get it. How is it so strong or better than fire??

two main reasons:

1) Carrion Creepers puts in absolutely disgusting work as it spawns tons of pseudopets that each do tons of damage when they spawn and can proc up to 6 damage procs with their attacks

2) I'm not sure how much DPS a fire farm mob does but I am sure that Seeds of Confusion lets you take a big chunk of that DPS and make the mob use it on itself

Fire Control does alright damage as hanging out in a bonfire is not fun but Carrion Creepers in a fully target saturated environment is really gross.
