1. What is the best archetype for farm?

2. and if there are other archetype than the vest archetype does it make big difference?

1. Any and the explanation behind that is that any AT can use the market.

If you're talking about AE farms then the broot is the lord of that realm.

2. I know people who use tanks, blasters, and controllers to get the job done.

Hell I use a stalker to farm merits.

I think you should specify the "farm" if its fire then there are various ones, if its merits I like stalkers to speed run that, and any AT can run specific arcs repeatedly to get inf, drops, merits, etc.

Brute is far and away the most popular. 2nd place in that metric comes nowhere close.

That being said, Tankers, Scrappers, Fire Manipulation Blasters, Kinetics Support Archetypes, Plant Controllers/Dominators are all up there as options that aren’t unheard of.

For maps specifically designed for the purpose, the Fire brute remains king of the hill.  Fire/Spines is justifiably popular, though I understand Fire/Rad and Fire/Claws come close.

Most characters - dare I say, all characters with solid S/L and fire resistance or defence can farm.  Farming is not a competitive activity, 'least not for me.  I farm on several characters.  For a scrapper you're going to want a full strength taunt aura; I have farmed on a Spines/Energy scrapper and it works as well as anything.

Of course farming goes beyond tailored AE missions; you can farm paper and radio missions, you can farm DA missions, you can farm task forces.  My fire/willpower scrapper 'farms' the Shadow Shard TFs when they come up as a weekly.

Horse > Cow > Pig > Chicken.  There are other AT's like Cat and Dog but they need rebalancing.  🤪

Or you could roll a brute...

Horse is OP. Nerf pony, buff Puppy.

But in all seriousness @seihyup kim, "best" is largely subjective. By best do you mean the fastest, the strongest, or a farmer you can do other things with, or one that you can afk farm on, or one that is fun to play?

Some examples -

Brutes can be cheap to get going, and are generally regarded as the strongest. Fire brutes are pretty cheap to softcap resistances for, which is why they are most peoples beginner farmer. Some can afk farm. some can not. Far as if they are fun, well, that's subjective.

Tankers have the advantage of being useful outside of farming. I have tanked ITFs as well as Farmed with my Bio Armor/Rad Melee Tanker. Plus it is pretty easy to afk farm with a tanker, as most of them can be pretty immortal.

Personally. I farm with Masterminds. Because I find it much more fun and interesting to fight many more mobs at once, instead of 12-16 at a time as farmers and brutes can. Instead of fighting 2 packs at a time, its fighting multiple spawns "en masse" at a time. Lower damage per mob, but many more targets. Plus some MM setups can be surprisingly good. I currently run a 3 box MM team, that can clear maps in 4 minutes.

So, there really is no "best". It really depends on what you want and what you are going for. What is best for "me", may not be the best for "you", and so on.

Honestly, I would urge you to focus more on a playstyle/at you enjoy, and then try to make a farmer from that.

Hope this helps!

Kim I highly do not recommend farming until you have gotten a character or 2 to 50 or at least in the 40s. In no way do you need to farm in this game to enjoy it and I often wish I hadn't started farming myself. However as a veteran player I already knew what the game had in store for me. Since based on a few of your threads it appears you are new to the game I feel you would get more enjoyment by just grouping or soloing if that is preferred and letting the game take you where it can. Farming, while very rewarding, can also become very boring and seem like a grind at times. That being said there are players out there that love it and you may become one of them but proceed with caution.

This is good advice.  It depends on you - but I strongly recommend actually playing the game before getting hooked into farming.  If you just need some start up cash or what not folks here are very generous.  Also, if you just want to get one or two toons up a few levels, again, folks here are usually very helpful and will often let others join their farm runs to get a quick powerlevel or two or maybe earn some inf / recipes.  Unless you are planning to go completely nuts like me, it might be best to just tag along instead of making your own dedicated farmer.

On that note...  I have two fire/fire brute farmers who work awesome.  I recently decided to roll rad/fire/mu based on what is considered one of the fastest farm builds.  The results for me are (drum roll please) my fire / fire brutes are just fine for farming.  While I think the rad/fire or spines/fire builds might be a bit faster, the difference is not enough to warrant going to one if you already have a good farming toon.  In other words, if you want to put something together besides rad/fire/mu or spines/fire/mu that is, say, more to your personal liking or more thematic, go for it.  As far as AT's go, brute seems easiest to me (however there are some other interesting builds that have me intrigued like mastermind controller and dominator).

So, you should be okay with a /fire brute.

Don't bother with farming. A tiny bit of inf is all you need to get started. Minute by minute playtime, marketing is the most efficient way to generate inf.

Farming is for a. fun (not inf generation), b. leveling your friends, c. leveling your alt-account alts, d. a way to entertain your farmerbrown while you do work and are afk

Once you know how it works, you can convert a small number of merits + a handful of inf into LOTS of inf.

   Uhhh... hello... 😋

So I guess in honor of your awesome Tesseract, I'll do one of my own for a few days (at least). It's the least I can do (though mine isn't as cool lol)... 😁

I am truly honored!  😁

Somewhere in the dumpster fire of a knowledge repository that is my brain I have a fascination for physics.  Dimensions are beyond fascinating.  While it appears that my little friend is just a hyperactive geometric shape, he is really a 2D picture of what a 4D cube looks like in animated 3D.  There are models of this that have way more moving parts.  They are fascinating.  Oh did I mention that dimensions are fascinating?

Nope, I don't believe you did lol... 😋

And as a major Gif collector, I have a ton of them too. I would show you them, but I think we took over the OP's post long enough. So how about suggesting some "Dimensional" farming AT's, just for themes sake (cause I haven't got a clue lol)... 🙃

My apologies to the OP... but did I mention that dimensions are fascinating? (j/k)

Regarding suggested AT's I've already suggested Brute twice (/fire specifically) along with Mastermind, Controller, Dominator, Horse, Cow, Pig, Chicken, Cat and Dog.

But even more importantly, I agree with the suggestion that folks new to the game should start elsewhere - farming is just a means to an end.  It is not the game (although it can be it's own game sort of).  If the OP really wants to get into farming, I highly recommend just copying one of the common brute builds and go from there (no dimensions required).  But starting out I think it would be more beneficial and enjoyable to the OP if they concentrate on learning the game and finding out what they like to play and do first.  That way when you do farm you will have a reason for doing it.

As others have pointed out, farming isn't the best way to make inf (it's not bad either).  Playing the market can make significantly more if done correctly.  I use it mainly for p/l'ing and to gear up alts (err, I mean mains, yeah, mains - alts would mean I have an addiction, which I don't.  my pills are working just fine.  move along...)

Dimensional farming AT's sounds VERY cool.  Why did you go and say that?  lol

Uhhh... Because I can good sir! 😁 So I challenge the to make a truly DIMENSIONAL farming AT character as best you can, cause God know's I can't lol... Oh and WITHOUT using Dimensional Shift too (cause you know, that would be way too obvious lol). As far as first time players to CoH (or any game in fact), I totally agree with the idea of starting with something a bit more "basic" yet fun to play.

For example, I used to play D&D and Pathfinder (pen and paper) a lot with friends, and I always suggested to new players who wanted to try things out to make a Fighter first. That way you not only get the feel of the game and the rules therein, but also play something a bit more easier to manage and learn from. Slow and steady win the race imho I always say. But hey, that's only my view on things. Those with bigger and better dimensions then me (looking at you @KauaiJim) are better equipped to make good suggestions... 😁

Well, you're making me blush a bit.  I thank you for your compliment, however I'm afraid I would need a bigger plate to add that entree.  This idea will however be slowly growing in the back of my mind as you have now planted the seed.  Honestly, I never even fine tuned my farmers as they aren't my main toons, just as I said a means to an end.

So, let me give very direct advice here to the OP.

I highly recommend a brute AT with a /fire secondary if you want to make a farmer.  There are plenty of other builds that can farm, just when you are doing it over and over for hours on end you will want something that feels easy and not tedious.  The /fire brutes cover a lot of the basics (including having a damage aura).  To take this advice (for what it's worth) a little further, I would recommend at least playing your farm toon up through the levels to get a feel for the game instead of just power levelling him/her.  And, if you just need some inf and enhancements to start off, you really don't even need a farmer.  Yomo, Snarky, myself and about 100 others here will gladly bankroll you to get you started.  No farmer needed.  So you can get out there and experience CITY OF HEROES not city of farming.  I think I've said about all I can here so to quote BjorJlen,  "Peace".  ✌️ (what no peace sign emoji? what the heck is a victory hand?  lol)

Edited to add:  I overlooked mentioning that many AE farms tend to be designed to work best with fire but s/l is another popular one..

Edited to change "litter further" to "little further" - Freudian slip?  Perhaps...  lol
