Linea Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 Has anyone complied a Tier list for Brutes similar to Croax's Stalker Tier List? Seems like that would be a useful thing to have bookmarked somewhere. 1 1 AE 801 (link) is a variety of missions for fun and challenge, and is designed for a team of 5+ Incarnates. Just search '801' in AE. 801 Difficulty Varies: 801.0 Easy, ..., 801.2 Standard*, ..., 801.5 Moderate**, ..., 801.6 Hard***, ..., 801.7 Four Star****, ... 801.F Death. I may be AFK IRL, But CoH is my Forever Home.
Snarky Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 (edited) Most people that gravitate to Brutes seem to have a concept in mind. In my opinion. What might seem like one of the most mindless archetypes… well maybe it is a pick based on feeling. There are some sets that perform better than others sure…. Most of us sort of know whats what. But our ‘decision’ tends to be a gut choice based on how we want to smash. My two cents Edited January 5, 2022 by Snarky 1
Without_Pause Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 To the OP, no. In a generic way, I just factor in how those sets get converted from a Stalker to a Brute and bump up the resist sets in how useful they can be since Brutes have a much bigger HP pool to deal with. Things like does a melee set use a pet instead of a direct attack as well is factored in since those are good for a Stalker since they don't break Hide, but bad for a Brute since they aren't impacted by Fury. 1 Top 10 Most Fun 50s. 1. Without Mercy: Claws/ea Scrapper. 2. Outsmart: Fort 3. Sneakers: Stj/ea Stalker. 4. Emma Strange: Ill/dark Controller. 5. Project Next: Ice/stone Brute. 6. Waterpark: Water/temp Blaster. 6. Mighty Matt: Rad/bio Brute. 7. Without Hesitation: Claws/sr Scrapper. 8. Within Reach: Axe/stone Brute. 9. Without Pause: Claws/wp Brute. 10. Chasing Fireworks: Fire/time Controller. Hobbes Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 For farming? For Teaming? For Soloing? For funsizes? In my experience Brute primaries are more about the feel for the player. Numbers wise they're actually pretty close (comparted to other ATs) but Spines for AoE, Energy Melee for Single Target, Claws for a solid balance of both. I hear good things about Savage, never run one to 50 though. And Staff is a lot of fun, easily took mine to 50, and it's probably the "worse" Brute primary set. Secondary sets, Dark Armor for resists, Energy Armor for Defense, Invulnerability for mixed? And of course Spines/Fire for farming. It's cliché advise, but play what feels good. They'll all get to 50 just fine, and IO'd and Incarnated will solo most +4/*8 mission content. If you have a specific "Thing" in mind for your Brute to do, you'll get some real specific feedback I suspect. 1
SuperPlyx Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 It would seem the answer is no. Someone do it, I wanna read it. 1 1

Sovera Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Sounds like it would be pretty subjective. Nothing is really really bad (KM is weak, but needs so few powers from the primary that we can squeeze in a bunch of other stuff. Psi is weak, but has a lot of CC and can be pretty safe to use. DM isn't super strong, but brings endurance recovery and a tiny heal). Some, of course, are stronger in their specific areas. But if I say 'Elec Melee/Staff is not actually that great AoE' I'll have people blinking owlishly and 'confused' reactions to my post. I'm not even sure a 'clear times tier list' would be accepted since people would still argue. - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds.
Bill Z Bubba Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Just now, Sovera said: since people would still argue. Cuz we enjoy doin that. Even my statements that Shield is numerically superior to SR, I end up arguing with. In some areas, it absolutely is, in others, it's not.
StriderIV Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 2 hours ago, Bill Z Bubba said: Yea, me, too. And then argue with it. That’d be part of the fun 😂 You know, not that it is THE top tier brute, BUT there is one powerset combo I found that really shines on a Brute: Savage Melee/Bio Armor. Both Savage Melee and Bio have DOT’s, and those DOT’s are pumped up by fury… so it ends up being a ton of orange numbers that really allow you to tear through mobs. Pretty fun as well.

Bill Z Bubba Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 I'd love to say what I think the best brute is... but I only have one that's T4ed and fully kitted up, and even though he's cool as hell, I know numerically he ain't it.

Sovera Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 I still find my EM/Fire the best blend. Great ST from EM, AoE assist from Fire Armor, good ST burst from EM for problem targets, good AoE burst from triple procced Burn, sturdy enough to face tank most non psi content. But that's less of a tier list and more of a particular combo. 2 - Simple guide for newcomers.

I could see Fire , with proc’d out burn, really allowing this combo to tear through mobs while still taking down AV’s because EM is EM lol

I get 2:30 on that. Now shave 30 seconds if I also took Gloom. Scrappers do it better but their ATOs are actually useful. 2 - Simple guide for newcomers.

Bill Z Bubba Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 (edited) This thread and the fact that I'm playing a newly 50 inv/em tank built for tanking, but of course soloing now to unlock incarnates, is pushing me towards an opinion. Regardless of AT, SD>SR>everything else. And the best most well rounded brute will be the same as the best well rounded scrapper and tank. Shield and Nrg Melee. For best damage, I'm told that TW is still greater than Nrg, so TW/Bio. Most survivable? Probably dark/shield runnin MG-Gloom-SL-Smite-repeat with darkest night in play. Yeah, my Shield/Rad Tanker is obscene. I could see Shield/Nrg being just a crazy, probably trading some of that AOE for better ST. Claws/Bio might be in the running for best damage on a scrapper. Maybe not for ST, but just all around. I do agree with the Dark Melee/Shield scrapper though. Just pretty classic and very survivable for a scrap. Only one I have at 50 lol

Have you tried Stone Armor on a Brute/Tank post tweaks? I haven't done a Shield character but just looking at Mids numbers seem about the same. More DDR by stacking the anti-mez clicky.

I hate granite armor and the testing I did on beta with a claws/stone scrapper led me to think the T9 was still going to be necessary. Also realized last night that the same hate may be why I don't do form shifting khels. Still, I probably should look at the granite-less numbers for tanks. Might be ok but I'm already runnin a dark/stone scrapper.

I haven't had use for it yet but it just squeaks into softcap territory graniteless on a Brute and that's something that gets whittled by defense debuffs. On a Tanker I got some silly numbers like 76% resists across the board with two stacks on top of softcap defense on top of DDR. Also Incarnate defense levels with MA on top of the rest behind. On a Brute/Scrapper it has an E/N hole. On a Tanker it has... no hole? It's the new Shield.
