So I had a pretty legit WS back in the day, and I still had the costume file. Got the name on my homecoming server, loaded the costume, but I'm not feeling it. I can't decide if it's just the low level blues, or if I'm more of a blapper now. I remember one being a better dwarf tank back in the day, but I don't remember which one or why.

Basically, I'm asking which one is more effective at that tank mage feel with versatility they were originally designed for with out a ton of IO set tweaking. I was all in for IO sets 8 years ago, but now I have three young kids and no time to grind all those sets out.

Thanks.

I know how you feel,

I loved MM, Controllers and Scrappers back in the day, but i'm in love with my PB, and Blaster - I guess our tastes change.

Im currently working on a PB Dwarf / Nova build with a little human so not totally tri, but could be -  i've just dinged 50 so I'm going to try it out and I'll post it once I have feel for it.

I would go with a PB. WS's really benefit from a full IO build. Perma eclipse is a thing of beauty.

I also have not been able to remake my WS. Something about seeing him struggle through the low levels just makes me sad.

Both have similar powers up until about level 20. Peacebringers can fly and warshades can teleport from level 1, but by level 20 both can do both.

Peacebringers

Pro: Wholly self-sufficient. Cosmic balance helps you round out a team (tanky characters make you hit harder, hard-hitters make you tank better), which makes teaming very smooth. Lowers enemy defence so fights get easier over time. You are a disco ball. Light Form allows you to turn into a blaster that can tank. Human form does crazy melee damage.

Con: In close quarters (caves, offices), the transform flash takes up the whole screen. Some keystone powers have very long cooldowns. Pet is so unpredictable it has to be spawned at point-blank range.

Warshade:

Pro: In large battles, can buff own damage enormously. Lower enemy recharge speed so fights get easier over time. With mires and eclipse, you can turn into a flying blaster that can tank. Human form has some crowd control.

Con: Sad emo purple. Dark Sustenance increases your abilities so blasters make you more blasty and tankers make you more tanky, so you don't really have a time to show off until later levels. Slightly reliant on huge groups of mobs to get the best performance.

My main is a PB and I love him. Capped res all the time (50% psi res on my own or can be easily capped with a team) and capped hit points, endurance management, self reliant. Forms give you different utilities and allow you to fill holes based on what the team might need. Dwarf has a taunt, not as powerful as a tanks but you can be a tank or pull aggro off a blaster/controller. My heals are up in about 18s and heal over half my health. I can take damage and dish it out with one enemy or a crowd. PBs are self reliant which is what I like about them. I think they are more survivable than WSs espcially against a single target like a long AV fight. I'm working on my WS next but it's hard not to play my PB. I'm working on uploading my build soon.

At maximum potential, with macros and tray swaps set right, a triform Warshade will be the clear tankmage.

In Nova form: Perma 85% resist all, 2-3 pets out Perma, 200-300% damage increase, a self heal, end recharge every group you slay, a self Rez, built in invis, tp, flight, and slow/-rech control, a cone mag 3 stun power

With an experienced player, Warshade pulls dramatically ahead and transforms into a tankmage.

My PB has 85% all but psi, 50% to psi, max HP, status resist, a little under 200% damage, 3 heals, endurance management, defense debuff (you never miss) and my favorite part: completely self sufficient no matter if it's one enemy, no enemy, twenty, a giant monster, or an Archvillain.  :P

PB are quite strong, agreed. Then add to that 3 blasty pets, -rech and slow on foes, with tp, Rez and self heal/end recovery, and warshades actually do pull out, as this is all in squiddy blaster form.

PB are a bit safer, and do require much less maintenance. WS require more attention and maintenance, and become more powerful. Which actually was the design intent.

Posted

Yeah that's really the big reason WSs do more damage. If the pets were more even, it'd be neck and neck. PB FTW though :P

Yeah, I sigh at the PB tier 9. I hope it gets a buff, cuz I love my PB too! My WS and PB are thematically related, family spawn, if you will. I would love to see some of the KB in PB changed to KD, I know IO does it, and some love on the tier 9. I wonder, is this balance because PB are tanky sooner?

Something I'd love to see is a "MFing Warshade" sort of guide for Peacebringer.  That guide has done so much to help me understand just -what- to do with the Warshade.  But I'm still struggling a bit on Peacebringer, and just seeing builds doesn't really help explain them to me.

Now, to be fair, said guide has helped even my Peacebringering, for sure.  Since it taught me about keybinds and helping form dance and stuff.  But yeah, I am very much floundering.

I'll try and make one up and if anyone wants to input some stuff in we can compile some fight examples.

90% of peacebringer glory is Light Form + human melee + Nova until everything is dead, then Dwarf form if everything is not dead but Light Form is off cooldown. It doesn't have the complexity or nuance of MFWarshade, but it's ready out-of-the-box once you get things unlocked.

One of the Kheldian's Grace enhancements is called Form Enhancement or something, and is 100% worth getting ASAP as it gives Nova a noticeable damage buff.

Definitely slot the Archetype IOs because they provide excellent bonuses to what ever build you may be going for. At least dedicate a couple powers to 6 slot. I find PBs to be more survivable and WSs have more damage. But you can build them similarly. They both have a T9 resistance power, +Damage/Tohit power, resurrect power, heals, ST and AoE attacks, intangible/stealth/movement, mutli-T9 nukes, and endurance recovery. One supplies it naturally the other needs enemies. Biggest differences PBs have a psionic hole but more HP and WSs have a better psi res and longer pets

It's much much easier to get IO sets now on homecoming than it was on live.

I have a high-recharge PB that I just love to death.  While YES, he's got Dwarf form, it's only used as a mule.

He's basically Perma-Lightform.

I have a nicely kitted out WS too.  But I just find her WAY less durable.  And on a lot of the teams I run with, by the time I get all my stuff set up, the mobs are dead and we're running on to the next...

If you want to be godlike, pick anything.

If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!

My Dwarf form is only really used if aggro management is a problem. It's also good for teleporting in and lifting aggro off brutes if they're struggling, which at mid levels is often as they take longer to get their defences up to scratch.

Yeah my PB has 212.5% recharge and my heals are up in 16s lol and Essence boost is perma too. I'm way more durable than my WS. I also don't have to worry about stats effects as much.

I use the dwarf flare in my AoE attack chain along with the nova AoEs.

That's another thing I like about my PB too is when I'm on teams, all my buffs are pre-engagement so I can go in all buffed out and kill everything with the team.

Thank you, Hero Reborn. Adn you are so right. I have been more successful than I thought I would be with my limited time since I came back.

I tend to split off from the team on my warshade as soon as I can. I feel it's much more efficient for everyone that way.

So ... Scrapperlock ... basically.

Common symptoms include going the other way than the team, surviving going the other way than the team, and the words "You guys go ahead, I'm waiting for my rez to recharge."

Yep, quite a bit of that. I also don't like sharing my food.
