UltraAlt Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 Looking back, I have the thought in the back of my head that it was the best thing that could have happened at that point in game development changed to money grab. City of Heroes in a much better state now here at Homecoming. The drive to produce new content is focused back onto love of the game instead of ways to gain more income. I'm a bit bias though, as I had given up on my beloved game in disgust and quit my membership almost exactly a year before the Sunset. I love Homecoming as much as I did City of Heroes before the darkness of Going Rogue feel upon it after the crippling impact of AE Going Farmer and F2P. One blow after another. A City beaten into submission. Like a phoenix it has risen. It's great to be back in THE CITY. 1 2 1 If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
Bill Z Bubba Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 NCsoft forcing the money grab mentality was not the fault of Cryptic Studios. NCSoft killing the game was not the fault of Cryptic Studios. The game code being hidden for over half a decade was not the fault of Cryptic Studios. 5 1 1

NCSoft closed so many North American games though. It's not so much "never forgiven" as it is "never forget". I avoid them as a publisher, not that they have anything I'm really interested in anymore. 1 2 Torchbearer Discount Heroes SG: Frostbiter - Ice/Ice Blaster Throneblade - Broadsword/Dark Armor Brute Silver Mantra - Martial Arts/Electric Armor Scrapper

True, there were some behind-the-scenes shenanigans that hastened its downfall, but I felt like the game was moving in the right direction, it just wasn't given the chance. What puzzles me is when NC closes a game rather than put it up for sale. It's not like it has never been done. Lord of the Rings Online changed hands twice, I believe, and is still going. There's companies that buy up aged games and run them. So why close? 1
Coyotedancer Posted August 31, 2022 Posted August 31, 2022 (edited) I was in the betas for Wildstar, and remember very gently warning the people that I played with that it might be a bad idea to get too attached to that game after what had happened to the City. They didn't believe me when I pointed out that NC was likely to have less patience with a very niche, very western-focused game. I gave up on that one before it went live, but for those guys' sake I still wished Wildstar well. It didn't get a happy ending. Edited September 1, 2022 by Coyotedancer 2 Taker of screenshots. THis is not something that is a hard fast rule but generally this is embarrassing to them to the point that many will not sell and risk that. 1 1

Having spent time in Korea in the early 90's, I can attest to this as well. 2 If you want to be godlike, pick anything. If you want to be GOD, pick a TANK!
