00Troy00 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I realize there may be more than one "best," and that's fine as I'm open to opinions. Also, I'm interested in what secondary(ies) work best for that type of blaster. Thanks all!

Also, I'm interested in what secondary(ies) work best for that type of blaster. Thanks all! You can use pretty much any primary. They all have a mix of single target and AoE. But I would be more partial to Ice Blast. It has 2 single target holds (can hold a boss and with good recharge, can hold an EB). The one hold has a long animation, but it's not that bad especially if you use it as an opener on that boss. Cold damage is also not heavily resisted by foes (like lethal and some others). The cone (Frost Breath) and Ice Storm are easily skippable - but do take Blizzard (your Nuke - too good to pass up). As for secondaries, I would say /Energy is the best for single target with all the boosts and single target melee powers.
Sir Myshkin Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Depends on what foundation you want to build on for the secondary. If you're hoping to get some defense aspects into it some are easier than others. Personally I find Atomic to be one of the better choices to pair with most Blaster primaries because it has a nice all-around selection of tools and it is easy to work into a schedule of defense. Time Manipulation is another popular choice as is Devices for similar pairing reasons. Electricity and Earth Manipulation have the hardest hitting attacks available in them between Charged Brawl, Shocking Grasp, Heavy Mallet, and Seismic Smash which can be important if your end-goal is maximum DPS opportunity. From the primary side Fire and Ice are the two heaviest hitters, and there's a fine line between the two. Fire nudges out most cases simply because of its superior edge on AoE for most, but Ice Blast has better controls and, when it comes to just single target damage, can take the edge. Ice Blast > Bitter Ice Blast > Freeze Ray is going to become the ST chain for an Ice Blaster, and Freeze Ray can be decked out with a ton of procs on top of it already be a strong attack for its fast animation time which makes it a deadly ability. If this set gets paired with a primary that can stack in access to any kind of -Res on a target then it'll quickly dwindle down its enemies. For me personally my final choice ended up being Ice/Atomic when I went searching for a good Single Target option, but I found that I could do some ridiculous AoE with it still in Ice Storm and Blizzard with Atom Smasher and picking up a Judgement at 50. Drop Blizzard on one spawn, Pyre another, and Ice Storm+Atom Smash a third. Anything that survives will clump up on you and the rest are very quick clean up. 1 Pylon Test Run Submission Proc Monsters (Controller Edition) Proc Monsters (Defender Edition) Pylon Test Run Results Proc Monsters (Tanker Edition) "Mad King Special" "Ceterum autem censeo Iram esse delendam" Mad King Special - Force Edition (NEW!)
Shred Monkey Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 If you're looking at fighting in melee you only need a few filler attacks from your primary. Blaze and Blazing Bolt (from fire) is such a high DPS attack that it causes fire to beat all other primaries to use between your hard hitting melee attacks. For pure damage this is your best option. However, if you're looking staying at range, cold can match fire for sustained single-target damage. This is because cold has access to more damage proc options and better mid-tier attacks. FUBARczar Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 Straight out of the box, the best ST will come from Fire Blast and Beam Rifle Mix in some melee and the three best to pair Fire/ with are Earth, Martial and Ninja. (Temporal is a contender) If you stay at range then the three best are Devices, TA, and ??? Maybe Plant, Temporal, or Energy depending on your preferences/goals.
Snarky Posted October 12, 2022 Posted October 12, 2022 My Beam Rifle Temporal is an ST beast I designed for incarnate badge work. It will help a league bring down bosses while all the damage patch mechanics are up. There may be some that are a little more damage but i can promise you there are non easier. Two holds (one from epic pool) so you can hunt Paragon Protectors, Vicky Robots and help in MoM 1
