Techwright Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Trying to decide if I should like this or not. It is like Tim Burton is trying to fuse The Addams Family with Harry Potter and turn it into a series. I'm not sold...yet...on Gomez and Morticia (even if it is Catherine Zeta-Jones), though it looks like they got the right actor for Fester. Kudos for bringing Christina Ricci into the show. I get the distinct feeling she's going to be one of Wednesday's main antagonists, and possibly just as savage as Wednesday, just with a sugary personality mask. And an upbeat orchestral version of Paint It, Black for the trailer.
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) Season 2 is here to sadden* this old goth's black and twisted heart... *gladden. Ortega was already on the up before this, but Season 1 was an absolute breakthrough role. And add a fine supporting cast - particularly the indefatigable Emma Myers as Enid, CZJ nailing Morticia, Luis Guzman as the most screen-accurate Gomez to date, plus Gwen Christie, Christina Ricci and more... Curious, though. The Addams have always struck me as a family in which everything is open, perhaps a little too unfiltered. What secret could be too dark for even Tish to share? Something that threatened her children? Some way she'd betrayed the family? A secret stash of Billy Ray Cyrus albums? Yeah, not sure that trope fits their brief 100%. But looks like an awful lot of fun still... Edited 21 hours ago by ThaOGDreamWeaver WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... HEY, GET YOUR OWN DAMN SIGNATURE. This one sounds like it, potentially. That is, the Addams family has always had 2 types of darkness in their lives: What everyone else shuns and calls dark, but the Addams embrace, and then what everyone else sees as light and bright, but which the Addams find horrifying. As I've not seen season 1 yet, tell me, have they shown or spoken about Morticia's sister, Ophelia Frump yet? Ophelia, though possessing that oddness that the Addams family, the Frumps, and all their friends and cousins possess, is bright and cheerful, basically the black white sheep of the family. If they've not revealed her in this series, she may be the relative no one talks about. Or perhaps they buried her in the lawn. She does grow daisies from her scalp after all.
TheOtherTed Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I don't remember Ophelia being in Season 1. If she'd been mentioned by name, I feel like my ears would have twitched like a dog's. In any case, I enjoyed the first season. The show did hit me in the face with a couple of beanbags that momentarily killed my immersion, but all in all it was fun. Ortega was (and is) a smart choice for the role, and I'm glad the trailer for Season 2 showcases a little of the absurdist humor that the franchise is known for. Might even re-sub to Netflix for this.
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Not yet. S1 was centred squarely around the characters of Nevermore Academy, and Gomez and Tish were only in it for two eps. (Don't even remember if Pugsley was in it at all). S2 promotes them to series regulars, and will include some new Addams - notably Joanna Lumley as a fabulous take on Grandmama, and Christopher Lloyd making a return alongside Ricci in an as-yet undisclosed role. Steve Buscemi takes over as Nevermore's headmaster, and even a Gaga appearance as well. (Given the whole Bloody Mary meme thing, it's only fair...) WAKE UP YA MISCREANTS AND... Ghost Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago What @ThaOGDreamWeaver?!? Pugsley was in the first episode. He was being bullied, which Wednesday dealt with - resulting in her being kicked out of school
