Bio Armor Tanker: What is your secondary of choice?

StriderIV

Recommended Posts

I have this cool “Guyver” (props if you’ve seen the films or know the manga/anime) concept, and I feel like Bio armor is the best fit because reasons.

Now, thematically I feel like I can make most secondaries work due to how the armor works. I was curious though: what secondaries do you feel pair very well with Bio Armor?

Some of the ones I was thinking:

Katana: Brings some extra defense to the set. Nice attack chain. Flashing Steel AOE is nice on a Tanker. Added bonus: coolest looking taunt animation in the game, IMO.

Street Justice: StJ already hits hard, and Bio will just push that even further. AOE’s are nice on the set as well with Tanker buffs. Nice mix of ST and AOE.

SS: Seems like a classic pairing. I’ve ran SS a couple of times though, which is one of the only reasons I’d shy away from it 😂 that being said, being able to hop between offensive and defensive stance with SS Rage must be nice.

Stone Melee: No crash like SS, but seems to still hit like a truck. Also, a ton of FF proc opportunities. Bio seems to love recharge.

Fiery Melee: FM seems to melt face (pun intended). Based on @Ston’s recent test, I could see it and Bio Armor pairing very well.

Any thoughts on the above combos or suggestions would be appreciated!

though you didnt mention, staff is fun and good.

you get two sets of stances (2nd in addition to bio), hit-a-lot tanker cones and aoe... a def up cone, amother cone...a spinny pbaoe one..  leading to a decent attack chain, a dragoon style t9 (sort of), and a ranged that looks neat. ok single target chain too.  staff's often overlooked.

of what you listed, probably stone, for the ff.

You know, the reason I didn’t mention staff was one of the first tankers I ran was a DA/Staff. For the reasons you just stated, I could see it being GREAT with Bio Armor.

Bio/stone is excellent, probably my favourite toon. I'm currently levelling a bio/ss which is good but a bit more awkward due to feeling forced into the fighting pool early for cross punch. Boy does it do damage though!

Both sets synergise well with bio. Basically anything that can slot ff procs in aoes is a winner. I've looked at /stj a few times for another bio pairing but have always felt a bit disappointed in the single target damage given that's supposed to be a strength of the set. That might just be an on paper problem though and I'm sure I'll level one at some point.

A further mention for /stone. Bio loves two things: recharge and control. The clickies need to be recycled as fast as possible and then given enough breathing room for the regeneration to work. The combination of aoe knock-downs and stun is hard to beat for this. Mine is built all out for damage, proc'd to the gills, and is still highly survivable because of this.

Also having a mag 4 fast activating hold is just awesome. It can solve so many problems.

Martial Arts. It performs really well in Ston's melee powerset comparison thread and I feel it really complements Bio/ in particular. You can slot a FF proc in an AoE and a ST attack (the latter where you probably want to pay the kb2kd proc tax), and Storm Kick gives you +10% Def(all). Highly recommended.

Sadly there's nothing with elbow blades. That said I've paired bio over the years with psi, rad, ss, dark, tw, elec, ice, spines, and water (on the sentinel version).

What I've learned is there isn't a bad pairing with Bio. It just works with pretty much any set you throw at it.

If I were to roll another bio armor tank, I'd probably pair it with fire melee as I haven't used fire melee much since the changes to it back with page 5 aside of testing it in beta a bit and having the set on a stalker.

I do really like stone melee though. I made a post in the tanker sub 2-3 years ago about how awesome SD/SM was. And shy of pairing it with SD, Bio would be an amazing set to pair it with.

Bio/Stone does seem to have some super synergy. I think my two front runners are Bio/Kat and Bio/Stone. Both seem GREAT.

Elbow blades would be amazing 😂 I’ll share my “Guyver” costume when I get a chance.

Stone and Katana are both my front runners right now, for different reasons. I like the tight attack chain of Katana, and the +Def it brings to Bio Armor. Stone Melee brings control and recharge (via FF slotting) that Bio loves. I saw in another thread that Seismic Smash can slot a +absorb proc, which is a nifty little trick.

Kat works well on tankers. I run an Invuln/katana/soul tank myself. It works great with the recharge you'll need for Bio, so you can make ample use of soaring dragon and golden dragonfly. Flashing steel gets a huge cone, divine avalanche's melee/lethal can help you with building relevant defenses there.

Stone melee though, between fault and tremor you'll proc a decent amount of FF, and they give a ton of added mitigation. I can see that being a very crunchy pairing as well.

I do love the CRUNCH, which is probably why these two are front runners 😂

Answering the title but not the Guyver part - My favorite combos with Bio have been Savage, Dark Melee, and most recently: Ice.

Bio/Ice has been great for defeating mobs and exploiting their typical lack of Ice resistance.  Ice Patch really helps when there's way too many Cimerorans poking me with swords and the giant ice foot stomp even sleeps some of 'em on the periphery. It doesn't have crunch but it smashes everything like a glacier coming through a mountain.

I’ve just rolled bio/titan weapons. The aoes still buffed on tanks?

Only some.  The first two cones, Defensive and Titan Sweep are completely unchanged between Tanker and other melees.  No increase in arc width and no increase in target cap.  Both are 120 degrees and 5 targets for everyone.

Whirling Smash is expanded to 15ft radius and 16 targets.  It's the only AoE in the set to fully benefit from the Tanker inherent.

Arc of Destruction, the last cone, does not get its arc widened but it does have its target cap increased to 10 instead of 5.
