Although in some respects, i.e. performance of the team lately, maybe not so much as one might like. Since Minerva is the Roman name for the Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, & Athena is traditionally shown with an owl on her shoulder, I was going to guess that it was a (really) poor rendering of an owl.
