Humour is subjective. I could name a number of popular things that are as funny as root canal surgery in my eyes like Friends, Seinfeld, James Acaster, Romesh Ranganathan. And other things that have me rolling on the floor with mirth like Mrs Browns Boys, Sarah Millican and Jimmy Carr. I love roast shows but other people find them cringe.

I get where OP is coming from, but people have a right to create threads for any number of reasons, and as long as they are not vicious or nasty we aren't going to delete them because something has tickled a number of players who have run with the theme.

Full disclosure, I love them myself, and another GM was rolling their eyes and sighing at the whole thing.

I have never seen more than 2 minutes of Seinfield or Friends and have no idea who the other two are.  I thought i was alone!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, all the references aside from Seinfeld and Friends are British.

Full disclosure, I am a Brit. I'm from an area west of Birmingham in the Midlands called the Black Country which has produced luminaries like Julie Walters, Lenny Henry and Robert Plant.

It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things 🙂

I'm not even British but seeing Acaster & Ramesh = bad while Jimmy Carr = good made me realize there exists an exact opposite of my own sense of humor out there in the world.

As for the original request the scroll functionality works just fine for me.  I read about 10%, max, of all threads anyway so these "parodies" just are more to not click.

I am an American and I detest Friends and found Seinfeld as funny as a laser colonoscopy, in fact most of the "comedies" on TV (then and now) blow chunks.  Its hard to make me laugh, not because I am some jaded, humorless person but rather I've had to live through all of the tropes repeated over and over again, a child of the seventies it was reruns of the really old where the tropes were created then the seventies and eighties where they were recycled under the pretense of different colors and costumes and on into the nineties.  There is/was so little that was actually original or creative and then if they achieved that, it wasn't often funny.

Yet they get the ratings, they get the eyes on boxes so clearly its funny to someone.  And there is the crux, if its funny and its not hurting anyone then groovy, you do you.  You can enjoy reruns of Seinfeld or the Office while I watch reruns of Community or My Name is Earl.  Pax

Maybe the GMs can prominently sticky something like this:

"Lord give me the strength to ignore the threads I do not like

The courage to post in the ones I do

And the wisdom to know that people are different"

No need for a new feature to hide entire topics.  Exercise some self control and don't click on topics you know you aren't interested in.  You don't need to click stuff.

Normally I'd agree with "just scroll past it" but this is almost half of the first page now and there are more on the second page too. You scroll past one right into another one. It's diminished the usability of the site. By all means, let ppl make the threads they want to make and I certainly mean no offence to those posters but a way to hide all that clutter would be greatly appreciated. It won't drive me away from the site either way but it would be a nice QoL upgrade.

Please read my "Why I Am Thankful." I believe my post is not clutter because I discuss June as Men's Mental Health Month and the value of CoH in my life.

No, it really hasn't.  The controls still work just fine.  Any topics you find to be noise or not worth reading are easily avoided and easily scrolled past.

This. I have no objections to people making whatever topics they want, and I have no interest in asking a GM to delete the thread -- that I personally find them as risible as someone spraying liquid manure across my driveway doesn't mean that someone else won't find them entertaining -- I just want a way to make them disappear for me so I don't have half the first screen of topics taken up by (in my opinion) content with less value than "punch the monkey" ads.

What is or isn't clutter is subjective.  The overwhelming majority of threads on this or any other web forums I frequent are irrelevant noise to me.  I don't need any new tools for myself.  I can simply avoid clicking into any topics that don't interest me or just scroll past them, subscribe to threads I am interested in, etc.  There are many ways of avoiding content you don't want to read.  Topics don't stay on the first page forever.  They eventually disappear as new threads are started.

You think there is a method that is smart enough to recognize, in this example, parody thread titles? You think those controls would function better than your own discretion?

I can't imagine current forum software that was powerful enough to fix this example problem, but delicate enough not to get it wrong.

There will be an AI soon enough doing this for you, though... I'm sure.

I don't believe anyone has suggested that this be an automated forum process.
