Snarky Posted Tuesday at 04:37 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:37 PM Okay, most of us can admit that having Holiday badges once a year is not optimal. There are upsides. Few, but let us review. Cherished Holiday memory. Something to look forward to. Did I miss anything? Okay, now let's get to it. The badger population is a strange and hungry group. The desire for these tiny rewards is a mighty curse. But this is largely who the holiday badges are for. I suggest catering to the clientele. Der Kunde ist Konig. Errr, The Customer is King. The downsides to once a year badges. I have actually not created or ran certain characters because of the thought of not getting the badges until 10 months from creation. ADHD is a bitch. Also, we have a gaming population that is not getting younger. Let's finish off some projects before "sundown..." Proposal. Have one "season" of badges available one week a month. There are 4 "seasons" Anniversary, Spring, Halloween, Christmas. This should have each type of badge avail 5 times a year. It would promote focused objective teaming during that week. It would make a lot of geeks happy. Downsides, ... extra coding. "Traditionalists" not happy badges are free from being rigidly gate kept. 2 4
Ghost Posted Tuesday at 05:24 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:24 PM No You badgers are a sick bunch, and need help with your addiction. Not encouragement. In fact, if the devs cared for you as people. As human beings. They would recognize the harm they have caused, and delete all badges immediately! 1 1 1
srmalloy Posted Tuesday at 05:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:50 PM Except that they'd want a badge for having all their badges deleted... 1 2 1
laudwic Posted Tuesday at 07:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:51 PM No, part of the sick satisfaction of the badger is succeeding in getting the rare collectable. This would diminish that. 2 1 1
Ukase Posted Tuesday at 08:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:29 PM Let that sink into the subconscious of you OCD folks. Somehow the character I got that screen shot from was 1 zombie away from the badge when it ended. I must have gotten there late. Eh, I'll just have to wait 10 months. I have a character that has all the badges. Some of them gotten by sheer luck at being in the right place at the right time. (thanks again to Makerian, Cassie Knight, PARA and a few others who literally carried me to the Doesn't look at Explosions badge) A lot of the harder to get ones I got with Cosmic Council who are now active as individuals, but dormant as a group. Now, that character of mine, somehow I hadn't logged him in the previous May and needed to "buy" a badge from Luna...and I had to wait a year to do it. That did suck. But, ultimately, I have to recognize the badges in this game are truly meaningless. I've never gotten a thing from mine, other than something to cause me to learn more about the game. And even that doesn't really help me, the player behind the screen. When you have a ton of alts, and you see someone like Voltor, you might ask yourself "what if"...and then if you're like me, you say, "Um..no. Hats off to him, but I am irked enough at having to log in my ice/ice blaster instead of the character I'm playing at the moment, whatever that moment is. To have to get Bicentennial on multiple alts is enough to give pause. To consider Avoids the Green Stuff and other problematic badges on multiple alts - ugh. I'd rather not think about it. Tarnished Star requirements. Ugh. Someone should get switches and coal in their Christmas stocking for that one. But I digress. To me, having the option to the Hallowe'en trial (Dr. Kane's HoH)- that should be allowed. It's certainly not Summer now, and we can do that one, no? And that particular trial doesn't make things night forever, or cause level 1's to go afk in PI, only to have them return at level 50, still with no enhancements. The rest of the Hallowe'en season badges would only clog the channels, I think. Yes, some folks would certainly like the availability and the option. No doubt! But I think at best, 2x a year. And that 2nd time should be for one weekend only; not a whole month or week. But that's just my opinion. 1
Mystoc Posted Tuesday at 10:02 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:02 PM (edited) aren't they just normal badges then if they are regularly available not holiday badges, to me events like these were the reason after a few months break I picked this game up again I then see they added new power sets, balance changes and taskforces and now am hooked into playing for a few months again and the cycle repeats. as long as no badge is truly gone forever, I see no issue with having them being tied to events they are good ways to lure old time players back to the game who got burnt out, also some holiday badges just aren't practical to allow that often like opening presents or trick or treat costume collecting those actions are directly tied with their holiday so if you make them common place than these special holiday actions over time become mundane ones and take away from the real events unique appeal. Rudra Posted Tuesday at 10:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:51 PM As a badger, I have to say... I don't support the OP. It's one thing for badges that we can buy during the event to be available all year, which looks like we won't be getting anyway, because the only thing that has to be done for those is log in or go to Luna and make the purchase. However, it is a completely different thing for badges that we have to accomplish in game tasks to get. Holiday tasks are fun because they are not normal tasks we can accomplish all year, at least to me. 1 1
Forager Posted Tuesday at 11:10 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:10 PM We should also create a space where they can badge safely and free of judgment, with clean badging supplies and trained personnel there in case they badge too hard. We won't supply the badges of course, they will have to bring their own. 1 The D Squad Arc ID: 68066 Content for Ex-criminals following Blue Spectrum and Officer Daniels after Galaxy City These Ain't Your Daddy's Skulls! Jiro Ito Posted Tuesday at 11:25 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:25 PM Rarity gives them value! It is odd that Summer Blockbuster is available year-round, but the other holiday trials are not. If we can use Ouro to enjoy leisurely temporal displacement, can we not point it at the Halloweens of yore to LFG to dem holiday trial badges? The zone event badges would still be excluded, unless we can have Echo of Peregrine: Autumn, Echo of Atlas Park: Winter, etc. 1 Play my AE Adventures, listed under @Jiro Ito, including award winners: "The Headless Huntsman of Salamanca" #43870 **Scrapbot AE Contest Winner May 2022** "On the Claw-Tipped Wings of Betrayal" #43524 **November 2021 Dev's Choice** "The Defenders of Talos" #44578 **Mission Architect Competition Winner for October 2021: REBIRTH**

rosquetipa Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Also as a badger, honestly it feels more like better game accessibility to me. There's a difference between badges you can get by putting in a ton of effort, and badges you just can't get unless your real life circumstances happen to line up with the game you like to play and WANT to put that ton of effort into. It's that second one that I have a problem with. Plus, it's not just about the journey, sometimes the destination enables you to go on a different journey. Like costume fanatics, RPers, and alliteration fans wanting the 'sinister summoner' title for necro or demons. It's not just one type of player that this interacts with, I see no reason to let strictly availability be a gate to this kind of thing. I would ADORE echoes of holiday maps, not even just for the badging availability, but that too. Also where do we get those trained professionals making sure we don't badge too hard, people have been expressing worries about me lol 1
