Avilister Posted August 6, 2019 Share Posted August 6, 2019 So, I made a Rad/Rad thread yesterday with no replies - that won't happen here! So, I'm only level 38 on my Rad/Rad. My planned build doesn't have the values yours does - yours is better (I'm probably going to steal a lot of your slotting picks - I'm just back to the game and don't really know what sets are good or how to pick them 😛). I can say that you may want to consider taking Irradiated Ground earlier. So what it does is this: Every couple of seconds (4-5 seconds, maybe?), it creates a damage patch at your feet. The damage is nothing to write home about, and Mid's doesn't have a value for the -Def it applies. To my mind, the real benefit is giving you a passive way to get Contaminated onto enemies around you without directly hitting them. This boosts your AOE damage output when you hit them with single-target strikes and gives you more chances to get some health back with Radiation Siphon. Rad/Rad myself, and here's what I've come up with so far. I completely ignored defense in favor of Resistance (which I honestly have no idea if this is a good idea or not!). Without any Incarnate stuff, it has really solid resists - not quite capped anywhere but Fire, but it's solid across the board. This, plus the recharge so that Radiation Therapy and Particle Shielding can be used very often, feels like it'll probably keep me alive. Assuming FF: Chance for Recharge procs a couple times, I'm pretty sure it's also got perma-haste, which means Meltdown has a recharge time of under 138 seconds, so it can be on roughly half the time, which caps out all resistances but cold, negative, and psi during the time it's active. Once we bring Incarnate stuff into it, Melee Core Embodiment, even with 0 enemies in range, does all the time what Meltdown did half the time - caps out all resistances except Cold, Negative, and Psi. With Meltdown, that caps out ALL resistances except Psionic, which sits at 87.1...until you get 3 enemies in range, and then it's also capped. If FF: Chance for Recharge isn't enough to perma-hasten, it is possible to take Agility and definitely get Perma-haste, but this shouldn't be necessary, I don't think. At the moment this is all theory only - I'm planning on building and testing it soon, but right now, I'm just looking at numbers. I'm SURE I've made mistakes and this could be a lot better. I've probably put slots in some of the wrong powers, just cause I have no actual play experience with them. But it looks like a solid start to work from. If ignoring defense as much as I did is a bad idea, it's actually got at least a little baked right in - just toggle on all the defense powers I put in so they could hold LotG Recharges, then swap Tough's slotting for the two +3% global defense enhancements, and it gets up to 24.2% smashing/lethal/melee, and 19.8% fire/cold/AoE, with 15.2% to everything else. Got over 90% S/L Res and 46.9 Melee Def - wanted to try a Melee Def vs S/L Def build just to see what I could do with it. Will also be doing a S/L Def version for comparisson at some point. Not 100% happy with it. End may be an issue (1.34/s End Use with 3.45/s End Recovery). Is expensive but no Purps. Considering dropping one of the PrevtMeds from Particle Shielding (losing 8.75% recharge) in order to slot the Kismet: +Acc as my Acc is a bit low. Rad/Rad myself, and here's what I've come up with so far. I completely ignored defense in favor of Resistance (which I honestly have no idea if this is a good idea or not!) Unfortunately it's not. If you trot around with no defense you will definitely feel the pain If you plan on fighting anything but a few enemies at a time. You will of course take less damage, but with no defense to help you avoid getting hit in the first place, you can be quickly overwhelmed. Add into that mobs that debuff resistance in the late game especially and you are going to have a bad time. It's good to have a mixture of both defense and resistance so you basically mostly avoid getting hit, and when you do, your beefy resistance is there to soften the blow. Now there was a time back in the olden days in CoH's infancy where high resists could make you practically invincible, and regeneration power sets turned you into a god, but those days are far and away gone. All of the resistances are 70%+ for everything but Cold and Psi as well. It's a very effective beast. I know Proton Sweep is debated but running a Brute with just the initial attack (Contaminated Strike) for 8 levels and then just the 2 attacks to 26 seems like a long haul, unless of course this is just a complete respec once max level. Was just curious about the experience if you actually leveled this way. It was a bit of a long haul, but the various attack temp powers like Blackwand and Sands of Mu helped a lot. Just always push yourself into the ground before starting to attack. I rarely have a problem, but it is a little annoying in those rare cases where I'm somehow just slightly too high. What can you do. 😉 Yeah the other night I realized my Rad/Atomic blaster could use Atom Smasher while hovering, with that same caveat of "be down by the ground before trying", so I then started wondering, hey, why exactly am I using CJ on my Brute again...? I remember having issues building Fury using Sands of Mu and the like back in the day because they weren't considered "Brute" attacks so they not only didn't build Fury, but due to Sands of Mu's long animation it would stall and slow the process of building fury. I actually moved to the Cone attack on my Elec/Elec brute to add a 3rd Brute attack to resolve the Fury build stall that Sands caused. Has this been changed in Homecoming?
