Gambling is NOT illegal. Take one look at Las Vegas, Biloxi, and a slew of Indian-owned properties.

Gambling is legally restricted, in some capacity or another in the United States, unless the state authorizes special regulatory entities to enforce or restrict different types of gaming at (usually) the local government or tribal level. Wikipedia says it best... Gambling in the United States. One huge caveat is online gambling - the Federal Wire Act of 1961 outlawed interstate wagering on sports, but it hasn't been modified to address the modern conveniences of the internet or virtual reality.  The 'Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006' also didn't explicitly outlaw online gambling, however, it did outlaw financial transactions involving online gambling service providers.

All of this is moot though, as the Code of Conduct is one of the three explicit documents (ToS, CoC, Privacy Policy) which players MUST agree to if they want to log in and play. These are the 'rules of the house' aka the Homecoming servers.

  2. I vaguely remember a higher tray count on live, perhaps in the very early days.... I definitely had ten trays for enhancements when I ran my own private server. Didn't do anything special to enable that, just came that way from the i-24 game file on OuroDev. As to why it isn't that way here, well I don't know.

Then based off your logic superpacks should be against the content guidelines as you gamble your influence to buy them for the chance of a big pay out of prizes which then can be used or sold by the player.

It's not my logic, it's the Code of Conduct that all players agree to when they log in to the game.

Let's fix up the Golden Giza, and let players wager their influence and reward merits for the chance to win more playing slots, poker, blackjack, roulette, etc.

    Content Guidelines

The following is considered prohibited content:

    • Anything illegal in the real world:
      • This includes anything related to gambling, child pornography, terrorism, illegal controlled substances, and any real world criminal activity (yes, we know City of Villains exists)

I think a bright green STREAMING (possibly with little pulsing Red dot, for added effect) could be a really nifty addition.  Good thinking, @Coyotedancer!

Streamers would still have to self-select in to this, and it does potentially paint a target on them for photo-bombers and people seeking their 15-seconds of "fame" . . . but . . . yeah.

    I like that idea!

Did you want to post it in the Suggestions board, or would you rather someone else do so, 'Dancer?

It comes up as a suggestion every few months it seems, more so recently with the change in stance on streaming by the HC volunteers:

I disagree. The Don't-Wannas are just going about their own business, playing the game. They aren't the ones doing the broadcasting or intentionally mugging for the proverbial camera.  The streamer is the active agent here. The game supposedly being seen as "public space" doesn't change that.

What you said about the "Don't-Wannas" is a fair assumption, that I agree with - but I am of the opinion it should be applied equally to everyone.

I may have derailed this thread enough with discussion outside what is currently written in the ToS, Privacy Policy, and Code of Conduct. I will continue to say this, however - folks who choose to login have to know what those agreements say because they are asked to consent to those terms every time they log in. They aren't agreeing or disagreeing with my opinions or other players opinions, or having philosophical discussion on content generation and privacy in an interconnected world. I think it is moot to say it is one way is more right over the other, but that it probably due to the nature of internet forums.

Here's to hoping everyone is excellent to each other!

I'd say the responsibility of notification is more on the Streamers, personally, rather than the "I don't wanna be in your movie"-types. The Streamers are the ones actively doing something that others may not be comfortable with. They're potentially being intrusive, so it seems fair that they should also be the ones who have the small responsibility of making their activities a little more easily avoidable.

The same logic could be applied to the players who don't wish to be viewed or record while in a public place. I sure wouldn't like it if I was trying to take a picture in front of Mt. Rushmore and somebody who doesn't want to be recorded or photographed kept jumping in my frame.

Hmm.... Just an idea out of left field here, but how about another "toggle title" type of thing for Streamers, sort of like the "Roleplaying" one we already have in-game?

Toggle the brightly colored "Streaming" title over your character's head when you start your stream and everyone who can see you will know they're on Candid Camera. Turn it back off when you're done and that's that.

Granted that would rely on streamers being polite enough to actually remember they have it and then USE the thing, but it might be better than nothing, and certainly easier for them than having to tell every single team they run with over the course of that session that the stream is Live.

This sounds like a nice gesture. I am curious if the opposite approach could be undertaken as well - perhaps individuals could self-identify as not willing to be viewed or recorded in a public place where that expectation doesn't exist, but instead of having a RP-like labeled above their name, they could have a different label that reflects their personal beliefs. Of course, getting in to the labelling game is a can of worms. And for all I know, there could be a handful of people who would use such a label - just as there could be a handful of streamers who would be interested in using what you're suggesting.

Hmm, muddy or not if @Bionic_Fleafor example is chatting with others via Discord/whatever, that's no part of their character or even a part of the game. So proving it's them? An issue but not one covered by any terms of use at all.

I would say that falls under the Discord platform's Terms of Service then, but I'm not familiar enough with the platform to say that with any certainty.

  10. @VileTerror Yeah, that's not up for me to decide or not. These are the rules everybody agrees to when they log in to the game. If they don't agree to them, they are not able to play. My opinion on the matter of "content" or "user generated" is just as moot as anyone else's opinion. I don't own the IP, and I don't believe you or anyone else here does either. Thanks for the response though.

    How about my voice?

Are you typing that question rhetorically?

On the edit, if you could demonstrate how you exist in a digital world and are able to override the sequences and commands of the game's code, I'd say you should probably share this feat of discovery with the world. A real world Neo in the Matrix. That would certainly set off a great deal of metaphysical discussion to say the least.

If you're saying that a person playing a game in some how public guarantees any expectation of privacy, I'd say that is not accurate in the real world.

I disagree.  I'm agreeing to Homecoming's terms of service.  I don't recall seeing where any other player was authorized to stream my character, my text, or my voice.  Of course, I may have missed it.  Can you show me where it says that I agree to other player's streaming me?

You don't own anything in this game. So when you say 'my this' or 'my that' it's irrelevant. Everything is property of the respective copyright holder, which is Paragon Studios, Cryptic, and NcSoft. Their names may have changed since 2012, but that's what is described in the HC ToS.
