Um, did someone forget to hit a button? Or something?
PeregrineFalcon replied to Attache's topic in General Discussion
Fairbanks, is that you? 😁 -
You beat me to it, Shenanigunner! I was just about to post that I thought I remembered that the word Droid is trademarked by LucasFilm. And Google confirms that. Maybe change the name to "Renegade Pleasure Model"? Or "Renegade Fun Bot"? Just don't use the word "replicant" or you'll get generic'd again.

Thanks and Farewell Piecemeal!

Thanks for everything you did @Piecemeal. Take care! -
You've clearly watched a LOT of episodes of Law and Order and/or CSI. I commend you! 🤣

As someone who works for a law firm in the US I can tell you that this is not true. A LOT of laws are based on how the person felt. "In fear for your life" is a feeling, not a fact. A lot of cases hinge on the "reasonable person" standard, which is essentially just the opinion of the judge and/or the jury. A lot of financial laws are based on the "least sophisticated consumer" standard. An entirely subjective standard that lawyers and judges often disagree on and is the source of a great many appeals. TL;DR: If you don't work in the legal profession stop trying to tell people how the law works. You're almost certain to be wrong.

I was playing CoH with my friends the other day. We were in the Cake Room. People were complaining about it. I said loudly (we were on Discord) "I love the Cake Room!" My friends prompt asked me if I had lost the rest of my marbles. I said "Remember, back in 2013, when I said that I how I really missed City of Heroes and that if I was ever able to play it again I'd never complain about anything, not even the Cake Room?" They said "No, not really." I said "Well, I remember saying it. And I honestly never believed that I'd ever be able to play City of Heroes ever again. But here we are. So I love the Cake Room!"

So I asked you a question "We're ridiculously adamant about what?", and your response is "You didn't accurately represent what I said." The way your post was worded I honestly didn't understand what you said! Hence the part where I asked you what you're talking about. Ok, let me explain how I see this. I'm driving to McDonalds. My phone rings. My friend says "Hey, McDonalds is having this sale you should go there right now." I reply "I'm driving there now." Then another friend calls and says the same thing. And then another, and then another, and then I finally lose my temper and say "Hey! I'm about to pull into the McDonald's parking lot now!" Now, was that fair to him? Did he know that 17 other people had already called me and said the same thing? Of course not. But you can at least see why I'm irritated. That's how I see this. People keep posting "game too easy, bruh" threads, and people keep responding "the devs are already working on it!" But, because that isn't good enough the OP then goes on with a bunch of other stuff that the devs should do instead and how their idea is much better, etc, etc, etc. Telling people that the devs are working on it isn't "shouting them down", anymore than telling people that I'm already driving to McDonalds is. It's letting them know of the reality of the situation.

The game already has a "small" amount of content with a "base" difficulty. We're ridiculously adamant about what? About the fact that the developers are already in the process of proliferating the Challenge Mode across the game so that they'll be a "large" amount of content with a "base" difficulty? Isn't that what you want? What people are adamant about is that we don't want the entire game nerfed because people who complain "game too easy, bruh" are too lazy to use the difficulty settings that are already in game (buffed enemies, no temp powers, enforced by the game and awarding badges), and too think-headed to understand the words "the devs are solving this problem by adding a Challenge Mode into the whole game." Higher difficulty setting being added to the game, bruh! It's called Challenge Mode! You're getting what you want! Why are you complaining?!? Why am I yelling?!?

Exactly my point. The claim was made that "information is easily shared" and "people are intelligent." My response was essentially "the evidence doesn't support those statements." Because people keep coming to the forums complaining about how easy the game is and how the devs should do something to up the difficulty and they have to be told (again and again and again) that the devs are in fact working on doing just that. So information may be easily shared, but somehow information isn't making it to the players. And people may be smart, but somehow they continue to play a game where they don't know how things work and they refuse to try to learn. And then they come to the forums and post complaints that clearly demonstrate that they don't know what they're talking about, but heaven forbid if you try to correct their blatantly wrong info. I used to think that game developers for all games, not just CoH, should make more of an effort to get this kind of information into their game so that people wouldn't have to go digging around on the internet to find information that should be in the game. But based on what I've seen since then I don't think it would matter. I think the devs would spend a ton of time putting information into the game in a place where all players would be required to look at it and they'd just click through and ignore it. And then, years later, they'll be on the forums starting a thread entitled "Why did the Homecoming devs add Enhancement Diversification to the game?"

By the way, and I mention this because it isn't said anywhere in game, there's a thing that the retail devs called "Bodyguard Mode." When your pets are set to Defensive Follow, and they're within Supremacy range, they'll take most of the incoming damage for the Mastermind. When you first order your pets to attack is when you're at your most vulnerable. The MM is a low HP squishy. So a common tactic is to always travel (in the mission at least) in Bodyguard Mode and aggro the enemies or order your pets to attack and then order them right back in to Defensive Follow. Another is to create a keybind or macro that orders just 1 of your pets to Aggressive Attack and the rest all stay in Defensive Follow. For obvious reasons you should almost never do anything to draw aggro if you're not in Bodyguard Mode.

You say that, but evidence would indicate otherwise. For example, even though the developers are in the process of proliferating a Challenge Mode specifically for IO'd out super characters, there's still a new thread every week where someone complains about how the game is too easy and the devs need to nerf everyone. And, when they are informed that the devs are in the process of doing that they are actually surprised. Because it's clearly impossible for people to read patch notes, and the post right above yours is a perfect example of that. And I'll bet you money that if the devs proliferate the challenge modes across all of the content, or at least all of the level 50 content, people are still going to be creating new "game too easy, bruh" threads every week, like clockwork.

I hope you don't regret it. I for one am happy that you took the time to test it and post the results. The purpose of this wasn't really to "prove you wrong", it was to show people, and hopefully the developers, a couple of things: That people want Regen ported to Tankers. That Regen is provably the worst armor set for melee characters and needs to be improved even if they're not going to port it to Tankers. Oh sure, I was giving you a hard time. Well, not just you, but everyone who kept saying "Regen is fine" in the face of obvious evidence to the contrary. You may be unhappy that you were proven wrong, but your test might very well result in Regen being improved and possibly even ported to Tankers. In comparison to that accomplishment a couple of laughs by some old knucklehead on the forum who's named himself after a bird shouldn't matter.
-
Wait. So did Arcane just prove that a /Regen Scrapper or Brute with IOs and Incarnate powers can't survive a mission that a lot of SO ONLY Scrappers and Brutes can? Is that what I just saw? I'm just trying to verify this before I yell out "I told you all that Regen Tankers will just suck and die!" at the top of my lungs.
-
I'm in the same boat, part of the reason that I like playing tanks. And if you want to play a support character a great option is a Force Field Defender/Corrupter. You don't have to have the reflexes that Empathy requires. You can just bubble the team every 2 minutes and then spend the rest of the time pretending that you're a blaster.
-
Confirmed! BillzBubba wants to buff tanks even more! Don't forget, you heard it here first, folks! Wait, what? What do you mean I have to roll initiative? Not again.
-
Oh, but I doooo own your weekend! *dangles shiny object* "You are feeling sleeeepy. You want to test this weekend. When you wake you will feel refreshed and filled with a renewed desire to prove Billz wrong. Wake!" Well, how you spend your weekend is up to you, of course. Hopefully you'll find the time to run the test. I'd like to see the results myself. 😁
-
Make it on the test server, where it'll only be temporary no matter what you want. Unless this is really just an excuse to not prove your point...
-
Maybe a series of tests with MA/everything else, and then post results then? I suggest MA specifically because it doesn't have much AoE or debuffs that might favor a particular powerset.
-
As a test why don't you and Arcane both run an SO only Scrapper through the Trapdoor test? Let's say... MA/SR for Bill and MA/Regen for Arcane. First test on 0/x4, second on +1/x4, etc. Then post times AND deaths. If that doesn't prove that Regen has less mitigation than other Scrapper powersets I don't know what will.

Does Enhancement Diversification (ED) limit global buffs?
PeregrineFalcon replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
Short answer: No. If you read the text of Alpha Musculature it says something like "Adds 45% damage to all attacks 2/3s of which is not affected by Enhancement Diversification." Having the entire team running Tactics will apply 8 stacks of ToHit to you that are NOT affected by ED. According to the Wiki, Prestige powers are affected by Recharge and ToHit buffs and nothing else. -
Correct. Most games address this by first making PvP fun and balanced. Then by offering PvP dailies or special loot that only drops in PvP or minigames that only happen in PvP zones. CoH does the last 2 of the 4. SWTOR does all 4 and even now people PvP. Heck, I used to PvP in SWTOR. GW2 does all 4 and I will often get the WvW dailies when I'm playing GW2. But for some reason the retail devs could never crack #1, making PvP fun and balanced. And now most of the people who play CoH are just not PvPers. Unless the current dev team is willing and able to completely rewrite the game mechanics in PvP zones that's just not going to change. But you know what's even worse than that? At this late stage even if they did that and made CoH PvP the most balanced and enjoyable PvP in the entire MMO industry, it probably wouldn't matter.
-
Yeah. We're basically repeating the same ideas that we posted on the retail forums back in 2007 & 2008. They didn't care enough to do anything about it then, probably because Jack had already cut the CoH dev team down to a skeleton crew and had started work on Champions. And the current dev team probably just doesn't have the resources to do something like this. Especially since they'd have probably have to completely rebalance PvP in order to get more than 10 people to play these missions.
