  1. Why is that nav bar at the top? I am primarily going to be using that when I'm looking at the map. Costume changes at the top, because I'm not going to use them all of the time. Same with /lfg speech macros and the Fast Travel menu. Out of the way so that they aren't distractions. Why is the HP/command bar in the middle at the bottom over the target window? Because I'm going to be watching my recharges on powers a lot and it allows me to keep track of the enemies hps and my own hp/end without looking all over the screen. When I'm running a mastermind, I have another tray open above tray 5 for the henchman spawn and related power-ups. If you want to know why I set my 3-stack the way that I do, check this out:
  2. I like seeing the powers go off, but when I'm playing at higher levels or on a large team I often have to turn the VFX off so that I can see what is going in. I like seeing people's costumes. I don't mind the forcefield, fire shields or ice shield - unless they are all while and then I turn the VFX of to minimize the blinding spam as much as possible. In most cases I'm okay up into the 30's, but even that doesn't save me for multiple reasons. It might just be the mix of power picks. It might be because there are level 50's on the team. It might b because someone at a low level picks all white VFX. I have no idea why anyone would do that other than to punish their teammates.
  3. If you /gfriend them then you can see them on your global friends list. If players wanted to display their global name when they talk - there are ways to do that. (and, yes, I know that you pointed this out) We already can click on a character's name in chat and get their global or even just do a search on a name to get a global. I would rather not have my global name displayed with my character name. "Always wear your mask." - people can refuse /gfriend invites for a reason. It is too easy to hunt people down as it is (I have been stalked more than once)
  4. Many of the "jet packs"/flight costume parts have animations that don't turn until flight is used. Some of the options to turn on the animations even when jumping (when a flight power is not used). Now I feel like I need to go in check to see if the "jetpack" with animations "turn on" when superleap or superspeed are used. You can combine costume "jet packs" with flight powers and temp flight powers. I have some characters that have some of the "jet pack" and other "flight" costume parts that I augment with raptor packs (mostly the Day Job one from the shadow shard) so it looks like the wings are deployed when flight is activate. I use the costume change solution, and I don't run into that problem. I'm usually not flying for less than 10 seconds at a time.
  5. That's one of the reasons that don't run 50's. The fact that there were 5 origins of heroes with their own origin story lines (and, if I remember correctly, they all end in the same origins contact arc.) with multiple branches pretty clearly shows that the game wasn't meant for a single run through. Honestly, that should have been obvious from the number of character slots we were given even when the game was first released. Not to mention the numbers of possible archetype and power selection choices. I think I may have already linked this for you before. I know I have linked it to other threads. I haven't done much work on this lately, I guess it is project that I should return to. no waste of time as far as I'm concerned. I think you were correct in bringing it up.
  6. The way it is now - if the system went live as it is - , characters above level 5 that have been logged in within a year are safe. But I agree with you that 50's should not be exempt. The Name Release Policy framework is here: There are plenty of players with multiple accounts. It isn't an insult. It is, in fact, a suggestion that works when it is implemented. Here is another suggestion: type "character name generator" into a browser and look at what comes up as results. And another type "game character name generator" into your browser. Maybe if you really want to get creative with the browser search try "superhero character name generator". There are even "pulp hero name generators". The problem isn't that there aren't resources to help players find "good" names. This all mainly comes down to some players wanting a particular name ... and, far too often, the comes down to trying to use a name that has been copyrighted or trademarked. Who determines for how long and how many? Is up to a year not playing them enough of a hiatus? (as in the current plan if the system was to go live for characters above level 5) This however is a direct insult to people and is intentionally so. It isn't necessary.
  7. I'm glad that the DEVs did this. I think that there are plenty of city-dwellers that are/will enjoy this event much more than I do. There are only three things I find enjoyable about this event; running around looking for the capsules, fighting the mobs, and having the Echos show up randomly to help you fight. The reward essentially mean nothing to me. I'm not a badger, so the badges don't make much of a difference to me. The only name of the lot that I find interesting is the "Gardener" one.
  8. If getting sapped is your main concern, just avoid enemies that can sap you. Many players actively do just that. However, you seem to want "God Mode" or "God Mode"-lite at the very least. And, as far as I'm concerned, there is no shame in THE CITY not having "God Mode" outside of AE arc testing. I really don't understand why some people want to play a game that isn't challenging. This isn't an attack. It is just puzzling to me. Some people want to treat THE CITY like a virtual novel or something. I can't really understand that either. I can more understand people that just want to make a superhero and fly around the city and look at buildings look at building or bases -or- simply stand around role-playing in the Pocket D or some other location.
  9. You can pull down a mission and re-publish it as many times as you like. All your missions should be in your saved mission files regardless if it is published, unpublished, or re-pubished. In fact, loaded all my AE missions from before the Sunset and into my Homecoming install ... because all those missions that I worked on were saved. Of course, you can't save someone else's AE missions. But I assume you already know that.
  10. I think that the "find a contact" button was added as part of the funneling process. I don't really know what the DEV gaming community (across gaming) calls calls what I'm using "funneling" to mean. I'm using the term to mean "narrow the content that players are directed to in order increase the number of players in those content selections" This is primarily done as a game ages and happens to game content versus end-game content. This would include things like closing down Galaxy, stopping new characters on the hero-side from being sent directly to their origin contacts when they spawn into the world, creating new low level contacts that all new hero players are sent to (this funnels the 5 origins into one contact mission path - lacking origin flavor .... so why even bother with origins?), WTF, and, of course, the "find contact" button. And my point in this thread being, it isn't a bug; it is intentional. I would also point out, that if you break an origin contact chain, you can't get back into it. Skip one magic (for example) contact and the next origin contact will send you elsewhere because they don't know who you are. And that locks off all the other magic origin contacts unless you happen to get one when the middle contact-level split for origin contacts happens which offers you contacts that are not of their origin. That is to say, you get a magic contact. About halfway through their arc, the will offer you two other origin contacts (I think this magic split give the option of Natural and Mutation origin contacts with missions in the same level range as the magic contact). At the end of their missions, they will offer you the next Magic Origin contact which your character can immediately talk to and get a mission -or- your character may have to level up to the level above the current contact before the new contact will give you missions -or- the contact may not give you another origin contact until you complete their arc and outlevel them (that is to say that they go inactive and then later you can talk to them to get the next origin contact). There are also plenty of contact arcs that are broken ... just flat out broken ... Fault Line seems to come to mind as one in the origin contact line. And then there are others that send you places to do things that are pretty much impossible ... like sending a level 30 magic origin character to hunt in Dark Astoria (was in level range, but then the level range of the zone was changed to make it end-game content) I'm pretty sure the starting contact in First Ward is the one who's entire mission list is only to go learn about the shunting process to move between First Ward (Day Ward seems more to the point now-a-days) and Night Ward. So really there is no "level" involved with that as it is pretty much just a tutorial on shunting. And, in this case, Archmage Hellewise is level 29-50. I don't know who the starting contact in Night Ward is off hand. Montague is a level 10-50 contact. I have never tried run just Montague's missions from 10-50. I'm not sure if there are missions throughout that whole level range or not (but based on the wiki there are gaps where he can't give you missions and really only as 2 main mission-lists; getting into the Midnighters' Club w/ level 10 starting level and getting into Cimerora with a level 35 starting level) Fireball is a 25-50 contact. I'm assuming you are also referencing the others of this type as well that show up in "find contact".
  11. City of Heroes : Rikti Homecoming
  12. Or you can just email it to yourself - your @globalname And just keep it stored in email until you need it. I store mine in email in 500mil or so chunks in email. (The 500 mil bar is basically 50 (non-Lord of Winter) card packs worth of inf) Whenever I get to over 300 mil on a character, I look to see if I have an inf email that hasn't reached 500 mil. If not, I retrieve it, delete that email, start another email, and dump the surplus above 300 mil into the new email to myself. I'm sorry that you didn't know about the cap, but at least you still have plenty of capital to work with.
  13. I think you missed my point. I don't think they knew what they were getting into. I have no idea, but it does seem like they were in over their head ... probably on more than one level.
  14. Well, if you are in PI and running police scanner missions .. that much is true ... as well there not being level 50's or Incarnate powers - as well as a bunch of power sets that weren't in the "base game". Of course, the game moved up to level 50 pretty quickly, but it was a while before the scanners were added to the game. It is clear that your intentions were good. I certainly hope you didn't drag a newly returning play with a character below level 20 into a PI scanner mission, but that does sound like it what you did. It sounds like they were getting frustrated because they were getting thrown into the deep end of the pool with water way over their head and nothing to stand on. I would suggest not doing that again. If you run with a returning player, run missions on their level or close to it. I would even just let them run their missions and help out.
  15. I guess you are correct. It does open the screenshot folder for the game, but that isn't where my CoH screenshots go. But "Mario"?
  16. Not for me. I have NVidia take the screenshots and send them to another folder.
  17. I think there is a badge for killing 25 number of each spawn type. Gardener for Old School Circle of Thorns. I'm not sure about the others, I switched characters... ... switched back - EDIT
  18. Just a comment, but maybe you have the mob size set too high for your character and/or the tactics you are using. Try +0/1 and see how that goes -or- maybe -1/3 if you are really trying to Dynasty Warrior it. Honestly, I tend to run +2/2 well before a character is level 40, but I'm not trying to steamroll the content. Rolling back and complete fall backs are always an option. You don't need to just stand there and get slaughtered ... unless you think that is fun.
  19. Well, they did imply quite a while ago that they were moving from the other launchers to the Homecoming launcher. But I agree that they didn't indicate any hard termination date for ending support of other launchers.
  20. Mastermind ATOs only slot into pet summoning powers. They do not slot into attacks.
