  1. I have a a harpy alt and am looking for a good visual/stylistic match. Am thinking Talons or Knives, but really want to see what the Lore pets look like for each combo and tier. Anyone have a visual reference?
  2. The general gist is she is literally a screeching Christmas Harpy, so flight is a must. I didn't bother with Hover since one of the Electric Armor powers (Grounded?) requires being on the ground. Honestly Havoc Punch/Paralyzing Jolt/Rehabilitating Circuit/Shockwave were because I didn't know what else to use those 4 powers (Shockwave was skipped on the advice of the other build I referenced, but I added it back here since I had room). So I'm not married to those four. I am a very thematic player so trying to stict strictly to flying, screaming, and electricity for powers/visuals (hence Electric Mastery as my fill-in). Not adverse to patron powers if necessary, though would prefer to avoid the whole "go from blue to red, run the patron arc on easy, come back to blue" routine if possible. Not married to the order of powers except one: Flight at Level 4 (I always pick up travel powers there). My first time under the microscope, so be gentle. And don't get numbers centric: I get the gist of caps and such, but I don't have any aspirations to learn the specfic details and memorize what all the sets do and spend hours on this. Specific suggestions (replace X with Y) or you'll only make my eyes glaze over.

  4. Because the reason I come here for builds is because I couldn't build my way out of a paper bag. Beyond simple SO/IOs, the rest is beyond me. 😉 Sure I do make small tweaks (I want a flyer, the build is a speedster, simple stuff like that). I know how to use MidsReborn to that end, but mashing two separate builds together always makes me feel like I may have missed a synergy or done something sub-optimal. And I don't like to respec alot, prefer one-and-done (or build as I go, starting at Level 1 so I don't have to respec), and builds posted in the forums have been really good in that regard. To be fair, it's fine because I'm not technically a min/maxer and if I a build is slightly less-than-perfect I'm okay with that generally. I just like the fancier Set builds created by more knowledgeable folks because they are more fun than basic IO or SO builds. In fact, I roughed out a Sonic/Elec sentinel last night based on power choice recommendations from the Sentintel Review thread. It'll do barring anything posted here soon.
  5. Well it's that time of the year again, time for Harpy Holidays to awaken from her slumber. I see once again I have picked an oddball combination…no one here has a Sonic/Elec sentinel build they'd recommend? Feel like I'm going to have to frankenbuild something based on two other builds; not ideal but wouldn't be the first time. Anyone care to save me from that fate?
  6. I like to play concept alts and have a soft spot for Poison. I found Poison/Dark alot of fun and easily recolored for a poison/toxic look (using a mix of Bright or Dark themes). A Water/Poison corrupter is alot of fun (and brutaly effective) so I bet a defender would be fun too, and also very easy to recolor for a poison/toxic feel.
  7. Does anyone have a suggested Kinetic/Ice defender build? Just looking to up the ante a bit on a concept alt. Typically team-oriented build focusing on bosting damage boosting, healing, endurance refills. I play this alt mostly with people who don't min/max or even use IOs much, so I still want to have Siphon Power, Transfusion, and Transference at my fingertips. I actually like the idea of using Siphon Speed to boost recharge (fits the hyper/frentic, yet random concept). Honestly don't get a chance to use my attacks much right now since I'm spamming the other powers (running on SOs at Level 38 right now), but it would be nice if at least a few attacks had some teeth for when things are more stable on the team (or when joining teams who play set for tougher difficulties). And my Google-fu is failing to find me anything, or just steers me towards a corrupter. But that ship has sailed. 😜
  8. I also likened Virtue to "RP Light" since you could "RP" insofar as "acting like your character would act" but without all the rules around how to talk in-character and out-of-character; people kinda knew and it was very casual (and made it super easy for non-strict RPers to "play aong" a little). So I got into the habit of writing little backstories and still do because it was/is fun. Since I am a "concept player" I also use the backstory as a base for how I build an alt: what powers they have, which they might skip, etc. And I look for bios on everyone on the team…they are rare on Torch, but fun when I see them. But even on Live, I rarely saw "tags" as described here, or anything obviously ERP-oriented (like gender, sexual orientation, preferences, etc.). I have seen it on Homecoming once or twice on Torch (which is the server I call home). Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
  9. As much as I've made it work with the "hairball" animations (one cat, one skunk), I agree more people might play poison if even something as simple as the two generic styles of blast animations were available.
  10. I have a theme in mind for a new alt, but I am looking for the perfect powersets for it. The idea is a primary and secondary that are stun-heavy or anything that causes the "drunken wandering" or "standing still and wavering" animations (stuns, disorients?). Archetype doesn't matter, I'll make it work. For example, Howling Twilight for the disorient, that sort of thing. But what I was hoping is that there were some powersets that had more of this than others? Bonus if there is a great build for this idea. Maybe not, but figured I'd ask.
  11. Blue arrow, actually...green checkmark…
  12. Did anyone ever figure out the Mac + Island Rum problem? Same thing happens to me. Island Rum will even scan and update the game as needed, but simply won't launch. Push green arrow, checkmark appears, wait for it, checkmark disappears, game does not launch.
  13. I am on a Mac (High Sierra). Like an idiot, I unchecked the "disable hardware acceleration" and now the launcher crashes. I was trying to diagnose an audio issue, not sure why I thought this might solve it. I can't figure out how to reset the preferences to defaults, or a plist file I can manually edit, or whatever to fix this. I tried re-installing the Homecoming Launcher (Launch CoH.app) but it must be picking-up the preference from someplace, since that didn't work. (On a side note, I tried using Island Rum, and it's still borked…it updates fine but when I click the green arrow, it gets a green checkbox, waits, then unchecks and never launches. So BOTH my methods to play are borked.)
  14. Please by the many gods of many pantheons, don't make it a Steam game; or at least not Steam exclusive. I've never had good luck getting Steam to be stable and useful (Mac or Parallels), their tech support is useless, and I detest the trend of rented and middlware software. I swore-off Steam years ago; too frustrating. I'd hate to be driven away from CoX again by such a decision. 😞 I can deal with GoG, at least they seem to care and their software ports seem to work properly…
  15. Anyone have a sonic/elec build they'd like to share? Bonus points for flight as the travel power. 😉
  16. Thanks @WindDemon21! I'm not very good at retooling these myself: is there any way to get SJ earlier for travel so I can build as I level? Or is this build only good as a level 50?
  17. Thanks @ninja surprise, I'm bad at coming-up with my own builds. Even trying to figure out what to do with the last three powers in the setup above will probably make my brain melt, but it's a start, and probably better than my attempts to make a frankenbuild based on my Ice/SM tank (built by a very talented friend of mine back on Live).
  18. Tried a search for this to no avail…anyone have a Savage Melee / Ice Armor scrapper build they'd like to recommend? Preferred travel power would be leaping or teleport (not flight or super speed). Thanks in advance!
  19. I had a Kin/Elec defender ("offender") on Live who I built around the idea of incapacitating enemies via "stamineutering." Since there didn't seem to be a way to maximize this idea with IOs, it was done with SOs at the time. Granted the meta game has changed alot, but the fact that I could neuter a Warwalker in short order was fairly impressive at the time...if a very dangerous playstyle. 😜 But that same idea might not be viable now (barely was back then). With that in mind, I wonder if this concept is viable these days, and what AT, powersets, and build would best accomplish this goal? This is a concept alt I can play on a team which is forgiving of odd builds (and doesn't play +4/x8), so I'm okay with maximizing end drain at the expense of other attributes. It's more about pushing the game mechanics in a different or odd way; I find this sort of thing fun. 🙂 EDIT: Should try to be reasonably effective before 50, as I don't powerlevel/farm and have to live with the build the long, slow way.
  20. Demons/Pain is very thematic, though the attacks on the build I use are fully intended to be used.
  21. "Tsoo tsuck." on a Tsoo mission. Which generally tsarts 30 minutes of tsoo many tsoo puns from the team. It's tsad, they just won't tstop! The "Get the G-Cells" mission: "By the sea shore?" The "Rescue Polly mission"--"Polly is right here!" or "Polly rescue Polly?"--while playing my parrot alt Polly's Revenge. Probably alot more I'm forgetting…
  22. Are you trying to use the macro method, or the popmenu+bind method? If someone more experienced doesn't respond, I might be able to help with the popmenu+bind style, which is what I use. I use them with all my alts now, not just my farmer.
  23. I'm having issues with a particular bind for some reason and wondering if it's just a limitation I was unaware of… I cannot seem to combine a costume change emote (cce) with loading a bind file (bind_load_file). The idea is an animal alt which, say, has a wolf and a bird form. When I switch to wolf form, the costume chages, with emote, and the travel power binds to my mouse buttons would switch to Beast Run and Sprint via loading/over-writing the existing binds. When switching to bird form, same idea, only now is hover/fly. Tried cce, then bind_load_file (using $$ to separate of course), also tried loading first, then emoting. In both cases the first half works, the second half does not. Seems I can emote or load, but not both in a single keystroke?
  24. Wish I had some good photos, but I play City of Heroes with… Mac Pro (mid-2020) macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave) Radeon RX580 8 GB BenQ SW2700 main display (plus x2 Samsung SME1920NR, one on each side) Ergotron LX monitor arms Anthrocart corner workstation X-Keys (XK) 28 "Button Bar" (emotes) XK-3 Foot Pedals (layer switching unrelated specifically to gaming) XK-24 (quick targeting) XK-80 (not used for gaming) ZSA Moonlander keyboard with Cherry Brown and Gazzew Boba U4 switches (ssssssh!) Steelseries Rival 500 mouse (I dislike the typical "12 tiny buttons on the side" MMO mice) And my latest toy: Azeron Classic gamepad (previously used an Ideazon Fang)…squeee! Needless to say, I do more than game with all this hardware, and it's been collected over a period of years.
  25. Sentinels are the blaster I always wanted when I have zero plans to use more than SOs and non-set IOs. Never could really feel the blaster groove (or constant dying), and only ever made one I liked enough to keep, and that took having a friend make me a custom IO set-based build. I enjoy Sentinels more day-to-day; really doesn't need to get much farther than that.
