From my experience, for a non all-tank team, yes. Just no way to sufficiently armor support toons, to survive 3* and 4* runs, without it. Did we really need it, last night? Probably not, but it made segments go more quickly (we could herd more mobs, safely). I will say that there was no coordination, because it wasn't really needed, on when they were up. I spammed Ageless, when I remembered, but usually didn't notice until someone's blue bar was down. Barrier was up less than 25% of the time, I estimate, as well. I don't think an all-tank team would have enough debuffs for a 4* run, much less the survivability, without Barrier and Ageless. No matter how sturdy a build, without support, tanks are squishy in 4* content.

Necro/Dark, ftw! Classic (see sig)

Had a blast on a 1* Hard Mode ITF, with eight tanks, a couple were 50 but not incarnated. Several were also first timers for HM content. 1:47 and a few deaths (all told we had only one or two with Barrier and I brought Ageless DDR), but a great time was had by all. See you all, next week.

Elec/Elec tank. End drain resist, for those damned witches...

Great time on Torch, last night. Two teams: Team 1 ran Sarah Moore with eight. I had the honor of leading Team 2, a six-tank Synapse team (which finished in 1:07 btw) and we were few, but mighty. CK didn't stand a chance. We even had him down before @ColTech94 made it to the back of the map 😆. If @Warboss were posting, he'd also thank @wittylibrarian for running the Sarah Moore TF. Big thanks to Team 1 for coming to Skyway and helping vanquish Babbage. We would have done it (with enough daggers) but would have taken quite a bit longer. Hope to see everyone again on Everlasting, next Tuesday!

Classic Inv/SS. Add Sorcery Pool for the "mysticism", which includes flight... and Energy Mastery Epic for Laser Beam Eyes

Great fun was had by all, on the TinPex team (except the new to TT player who disconnected). Thanks to @ColTech94, who actually led Apex, after winding up with the star (LFG port glitch) and led with grace, even while face-planted 😆. Ronin took back the star for Tin Mage. Bit of a grind at +4, but we still finished both in less than an hour, fighting through. Thanks to @Warboss for running the end-of-event missions, where we got three Praetorian AVs under our belts, as well. See you all next week on Torch!

During the "Get the Ultrascope" radio mission: [NPC] Archon Foss: This really puts a damper on my evil buzz.

Welcome, enjoy 😁

Resist cap means you still take 10% of the total (that gets through your defenses) damage. Any reduction in that is a plus. Since DN reduces to hit *and* damage, I'd say yes, beneficial even for a tanker (and teammates). My favorite Inv tank uses Pyre Mastery. Char gets the chance for +absorb proc (Entomb) and Melt Armor is a fantastic AOE debuff (-def and -res). Diamagnetic (Core) is the Interface incarnate of choice, as well.

No granite needed. My titular toon. Tank version, but you can just swap the powers. Kept Granite as a purist, but rarely (if ever) use/need it. https://www.midsreborn.com/builds/download.php?uc=1544&c=729&a=1458&f=HEX&dc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ere are the numbers. No Granite. No ATOs, no buffs, no Incarnates, no procs. Little heavy on the end usage, but easily doable.

Pyre Mastery also includes Melt Armor, which is a great -Res/-Def AOE debuff, for any archetype. Arctic Mastery does give -rech/-spd, but I'll take Melt Armor, every time.

#1, my namesake/titular toon. First ever 50 tank on Live (in 2004). Stone Armor/Super Strength. First toon I remade on HC. Foot Stomp never gets old. #2, Nosfera-too. First ever 50 on Live (in 2004). Kinetics/Dark Defender. Second toon I remade on HC. Still hella fun. All other "mains" are in the sig. I tank alot, but also enjoy support. Far and away the most durable and most played (VL 500-ish) is NUTCRCKR.
-
Add me to that list. Discovered that game in 1983, as a Freshman in college. I still have all of it, in a box... 😆
-
Cheap, Fast, Durable. Pick two.
-
Thanks again Ronin. We had seven for Posi 1 and six for Posi 2 and loads and loads of fun. See you all, next week on Excel!
-
Because S.Entomb includes the chance for +absorb proc...
-
And procs aren't affected, so any attack that is procc'd is still useful, during the crash. Prime example is Foot Stomp with Armageddon +fire damage 😁
-
A tanker at heart, but I've really been enjoying my latest project: Elec/Elec Brute. VERY tanky with melee defense around 42% without incarnates and outstanding resists. Two AOEs, a cone and a chain attack make mobs melt...and Ionic Judgement is not only one of the best incarnate attack powers...but thematic!
-
Due to the fact that Scrappers cap at 75% Res, where Brutes and Tankers are 90%...
-
Respec team 1 finished the Freaks (and saved the reactor) in 41 min. IIRC. Love the double merits!. Grand fun and we did it with only 6 tanks (set to x8), as we started with seven, but had one mapserve and drop, just before we kicked off. See you all, next week!

Hard Mode ITF (even 2*) will do that to you. Inv's 50% DDR is usually golden for 99.999% of content, but the cascading debuffs will overcome it. The devs did a great job in pushing teamwork and the need for various ATs and support (or rotating Incarnate powers), so nothing's really lacking. NUT's footstomp helps mitigate, but even the strongest Inv tank in my stable can't handle 2* on their own. The build you posted is great (as usual). HM ITF doesn't even really need a tank, now.
