  1. Hero/Villain Merits are good for storing lots of merits in one place and for transferring them to other characters. I don’t think they even generate these anymore...just the reward merits. I’m like 90% sure They are not awarded as rewards for anything, but your friendly neighborhood merit vendor can convert 50 merits into 1 hero or villain merit, and vice versa. If you want to transfer 300 merits to an alt, this can be quite helpful.
  2. You would want to buy an IO at 2 million and sell it for 5 million, if that was something you could reasonably do because the price fluctuated that much. Which might happen if there aren't a lot for sale at any given time. I've never done this but that's how flipping works, and it seems to me that you should be able to bid low and sell high without any problems. I suppose I could test it to be certain.
  3. A Modest Proposal to the Paragon City Council Ladies and gentlemen, friends and members of the city council, I come to you in our city's gravest hour to propose a solution for the plague that endangers our fair land, the most frightening invasion our city has ever witnessed, which threatens to engulf us all. I speak not of the zombie apocalypse, that fetid invasion of endless rotting corpses from the graveyards of the imagination. For while we are routinely plagued by such outbreaks, our brave and noble heroes are easily up to the task of dealing with these foul-smelling foes. Nor do I speak of the regular incursions of the hateful Rikti, for those fearsome aliens from a distant world are likewise always countered by our valiant heroes and their villain counterparts. Our friends at Vanguard assure us that they have things in hand on that front. Nor do I speak of the occasional invasion of Lord Nemesis and his armies that plagues our fair city, for that also is in time dealt with by the wealth of heroic individuals that Paragon boasts. I can say with certainty that Nemesis is the least of our problems. No, I speak of a more sinister invasion which no hero is willing to face. I speak of the plague which infects our city unannounced, whose agents, in fact, frequently pose as members of our own heroic corps. I speak, of course, of the multitude of spines/fiery aura brutes which infest our cities as we speak, spreading their message of fire farms and the noise of their powers at work automatically. The throb of the blazing aura! The terror of the bursting quills! Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you, how are we to deal with this madness? My proposal is simple. I think you will all agree once you've heard the details that it really is the best solution possible: I propose that we hurl every spines/fiery aura brute into the sun. Now, I can hear you exclaim, ere the words leave my mouth: what madness is this? And perhaps I am indeed mad, but as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. If we are to survive this madness within which we find ourselves currently mired, then radical solutions must be proposed. The benefits of my proposal would be enormous: a 100% reduction in the sounds of spine quills bursting and aura flames flaring and at least a 50% reduction in LFG spam. Now, I hear you saying: but what of the orphan level 1 heroes who wish to become level 50 as quickly as possible? Think of the orphan heroes! Ah, but I tell you this: There are more flavors of fiery aura brute in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your archetype guides and build advice. People will not want for leveling prowess, just because all of the spines/fiery aura brutes have been launched into the sun. Nor would it be considered cruelty, for these brutes are immune to all levels of flame and in theory could exist comfortably within the environment of the sun. I also postulate that the sun may well be populated with creatures as yet undiscovered, whom I have chosen to call Sun Denizens. If this is true, then the sun is in fact the biggest fire farm in existence. What need have our spines/fiery aura brutes to complain if we send them to the land of unlimited farming? Mind you, the logistics of such an undertaking are not simple. I estimate there are ten spines/fire brutes for every other super powered citizen of the city, and thus one or two star ships alone would never accomplish the job. Therefore I propose building a massive energy rail gun sling-shot that can hurl spine/fiery aura brutes into the sun, one at a time. I have spoken to Dr. Aeon, and he not only assures me that such a device can be built, but is eager to attempt it if given the funds required. The specifics of the device are included in the printout I've handed you. It is estimated that the process of ridding the city entirely of spines/fiery aura brutes could be done in as little as six years with nonstop use of my sling shot. The cost will be steep -- Dr. Aeon and I have proposed a budget of two billion dollars -- but I ask you this: is not the cost of inaction even higher? Can we really afford to not hurl all spines/fiery aura brutes into the sun? I will let you, the ladies and gentlemen of the city council, be the judge. Thank you for listening to my proposal.
  4. Yeah, I hadn't noticed that the recipe was going for 10 million. I can only imagine some/most of those buyers aren't even looking at crafted versions for comparison.
  5. A ponzi scheme made of nested pyramid schemes guaranteed by the winnings you’ll get from playing the shell game! It’s money in the bank! MCM OH! So... a casino. I'm in. Nested pyramid scheme?
  6. As for what sets do I think are weak or "bad at what they try to accomplish"... really most of them are pretty good. I don't like Ice Melee, for example, but a friend has used it to hold Elite Bosses and even AVs while soloing them, so while I wish it had more AoE damage, I don't think I could say it's bad at what it's supposed to do. Here's my rundown: Battle Axe: I don't think this is necessarily low damage. It's slow, and endurance-heavy, but hits like a truck. I tend to compare it to War Mace, and I generally like War Mace more but both are viable sets. Broad Sword: I compare this one to Katana, particularly since both of them at one time had the same animations and the various attacks are still quite similar. Parry is good to build defense but it always annoys me to have to use it in my attack chain. Broad Sword is best at single target damage I think, it hits with a satisfying crunch, but the animations are some of the oldest in the game so it looks very basic. Claws: I love claws. Spin is an awesome AoE. I'm not a big fan of the weak-attack-as-buildup I guess, but otherwise a fun set. Dual Blades: As noted, the gimmick with Dual Blades where you can set up several attack chains by using certain powers in a row is... not an ideal way to play. I tend to ignore it, or employ it only occasionally, it's difficult to plan all your attack chains around these combos. When you manage to pull them off they're fun, but you can do an impressive amount of damage without ever relying on them. Dark Melee: The trick with Dark Melee is Soul Drain, which is a nice AoE that boosts your damage and to hit per enemy affected. In a farm-like situation it's very impressive. Otherwise the set is mostly single target, but combined with SD you can hit very hard. Electrical Melee: As noted, this is a mostly AoE set and includes one of the best melee nukes in the game. Fiery Melee: Also a very good AoE set and does pretty good single target damage too, I think. Probably the biggest complaint I've ever heard from this set is the mix of punches and swords of fire, some people would much rather have all one or all the other. Ice Melee: I kind of think it's weak in the damage department... certainly lacking in AoE damage. But it's a melee control set, just like Ice Blast is a blaster control set. the different is that Ice Blast also hits like a truck and I kind of wish Ice Melee would hit harder, but when you can hold EBs and kill them at your leisure, what's to complain about? Katana: Like with Broad Sword, I dislike having to use the parry (in this case Divine Avalanche) because it's a fairly weak attack, but the +15% melee/lethal defense for 10 seconds is worth it. Kinetic Melee: Well, I'd say this is one of the more disappointing sets on a scrapper, just because the animations for most attacks are too long. What transforms this set on a stalker is the instant-damage of assassin's strike, which scrappers and brutes don't get. I also really don't like the sound effects for this set, a friend calls it "Nascar Melee". Martial Arts: I really like Martial Arts because of the way the animations flow from one into the other, but even so I can admit that it's merely average to above average at single-target damage, or at least good but like several melee sets is hurt by being smashing damage, and Dragon's Claw is not a great AoE. But eh, I still like playing the set. Psionic Melee: I've played Psionic Melee, it's a good set, I just can't remember any specific impressions of it good or bad. But I know some people like it quite a bit, I don't think it's lacking in damage. Radiation Melee: This is a good set as far as damage goes, I think -- it just suffers from really average-looking animations. I think this set wasn't finished and the SCORE team completed it using existing animations from other sets, so that makes sense. But it does good damage. Savage Melee: I know everyone wanted to love this set but to be honest, I think it fails in its current state. At least that's my impression, it feels like it's one of the weaker damage sets. Spines: Eh. Big on AoE damage, that's why it's the current primary set of choice for a fire farmer. I think it's much more tolerable now that you can pick from several different spine looks at the tailor. Anyway, like Electric Melee it's weak on single target but does great AoE damage. Staff Fighting: Personally speaking I think Staff is not a great damage set but it just looks so danged cool, so I could care less. Also the gimmick is the three forms for Staff Mastery which work similar to the three bullet types in Dual Pistols/Swap Ammo, or the three Adaptations in Bio Armor -- meaning you get three toggles to pick from, but can only run one at a time. Street Justice: Well, for some people this is what they always wanted out of Martial Arts or Kinetic Melee. A great mix of single target and AoE, good animations and sound effects. I don't have much bad to say about the set, it's fun to play and does not suck in any respect. The AoE Spinning Strike is a Targeted AoE, which is unusual for melee. Titan Weapons: The slow-fast-fast Momentum mechanic can take some getting used to, but if you ask me at the high end this is the best-damage set for AoE and probably single target as well. War Mace: Like Battle Axe this is slow, kind of endurance-heavy, but hits like a truck. I don't usually like cones but Crowd Control cannot be denied.
  7. Electric Melee is weak on single-target damage, but it has great AoE damage so I would hardly categorize it as "low damage". Lightning Rod can do an insane amount of damage, it's a scrapper nuke.
  8. It was one of those things that a certain group of players continued to ask for, over and over. Mostly to be funny I think, although it sounded like it could be fun, but I think it mostly confused the game devs as to why it was so popular a request.
  9. It's a 50% xp nerf, but with a DXP boost it's just normal xp gain. My experience is that an AE farm is still the fastest way to level. The nerf mostly changes it from being able to go 1-50 in less than 2 hours, to taking more like 3 or 4 hours (roughly speaking, I haven't timed anything.)
  10. I was waiting for a more active person to reply, but... I'm pretty sure it's Torchbearer.
  11. Well if we don't care what our fictional characters look like in game, I say make everyone a seven foot tall catgirl and call it good. Everyone happy with that? You should be proud to play a seven foot tall catgirl! ;)
  12. I run the Black Scorpion arc often just to unlock patron pools, and I always skip the third mission because it's defeat all and I want to move as fast as possible. I'm hardly the only one that does such a thing. I don't think the powers that be need an automatically generated report every time I skip a mission in an arc just because it's defeat all. If I could run, say, a Freakshow Wars arc from Ouroboros and auto-complete all eight missions in five minutes for 55 merits or whatever it is, you know I'd do it. So would 90% of the server. ^_^
  13. Also always good to keep in mind that if people on your team are lower level than you (or the TF), they will be one level below you and so that +1 to you is +2 to them. Usually not a problem, but if you form an ITF team and run at level 50 +4 and half the team is below level 50, don't expect much from them. :P
  14. I don't remember.... (sorry, couldn't resist)
  15. I... may have run up to 7 accounts back in the day. >.> I... may have hit level 50 on well over 100 characters at some point. >.> I... have only created 22 characters here on Homecoming. That's not very many, right? Right? Maybe I'm cured?
  16. It's just a jump to the left, and a step to the right... Er... I mean yes, what they said. You can be there inside two minutes from, say, Atlas Park. 1. Go to Night Ward (tunnel system -- big swirly thing near the tram). 2. Enter the mansion at the center of the maze. 3. You now have the badge you need. Open up your LFG tab. 4. Go to Task Forces, find Time's Arrow (Imperious). Click the button by his name. 5. Click the "Lock the event for your group" button at the bottom, and hit Queue. You will be teleported straight to Imperious in Cimerora. 6. Always assuming you're level 35 or higher of course. You must be this high to time travel.
  17. I've run Brigg's Comicon fire farm quite a bit and I enjoy it, so I thought I'd try out the smashing/lethal version on my electric/shield scrapper. My scrapper is softcapped to all positions: And I have 58% smashing resistance as you can see. I run a Council Earth farm at +4/8, I'm 50 +1, I have no issues at all. Despite this, when I entered Brigg's smashing/lethal version of his farm, I died so quickly, I decided that maybe somehow I didn't have my toggles on. So I double-checked everything and went in again -- two more times, same results. When I checked the logs, I could see that Stephan (who is clearly a boss) had a 95% chance to hit me with his Savage Leap AoE power, and hit me for 482.91 points of lethal damage -- well over a quarter of my health. Um... what? I also have Rune of Protection and I thought I had it running at the time, but just to be sure, I waited for it to refresh, then tried again: As you can see, I'm sitting at 54% AoE Defense, and 75% (capped for a scrapper) smashing resist (same for lethal although I only display smashing). And yet, Stephan has a 95% chance to hit with his Savage Leap AoE, and Donovan (another boss I think?) has an 84.50% chance to hit. They're still hitting for a ton of damage -- not as much as that 482.91 point hit, but if 235.02 points of damage is only 25% of the actual hit, then Stephan has a pretty amazing AoE there. Those Shurikens and Throwing Knives hit pretty hard, too. What I want to know is, is this working properly? In particular should any kind of boss, let alone an Elite Boss or AV, have a 95% chance to hit me when I'm more than 5 points over the softcap? I know softcap just means an even-con enemy (minion?) only has a 5% chance to hit you... these enemies are effectively 3 levels above me and the bosses are the ones hitting me so easily, but I still don't see how that adds up to a 95% chance to hit. Edit: I do see now that it says "Savage Leap is autohit". Is that true? But autohit would be more than 95% chance to hit, yes?
  18. TL;DR: i24 beta code got leaked, a bunch of people made a single secret private server with it (for cool kids only; no plebs allowed) and six years later someone decided to blab to the news about it. After everyone got rightfully pissed off about not being told about the secret server, the code has been released (illegally) and everyone and their dog has a server now. And my dog runs an AWESOME server! Sample intro to the Penelope Yip! Yip! Task Force from your dog's awesome server: Mission Briefing Character! Bark! 19. You cannot, as far as I know.

  21. 1. Yes it's possible. It's already been done. 2. I don't think the SCORE team had good development tools to work with so changes were not easy. 3. There are lots of smart people working on getting those tools to work, so presumably we'll see some cool stuff in the future. Maybe. Who knows? I hope so.
  22. Since you can slot 5 per build, it makes sense that LotG +7.5% recharge would maintain a relatively high price when other IOs have dropped in price. It makes it a lot more difficult for demand to outstrip supply. Right now the only other thing that keeps prices high is scarcity (pvp IOs, purples, ATOs, or sub-50 IOs sets like the Miracle unique).
  23. I keep seeing the "they abandoned the CoH intellectual property" idea tossed out, and in fact they've protected it to some extent. They had a mobile fight game of some kind out about two years ago that included Statesman, Ghost Widow, and several other CoH characters -- something the almost certainly did just to keep their hands on the IP. Also, there are more than the five Homecoming servers out there. ^_^ There are several other public and I believe a number of private servers running now.
