  1. Actually, new players will hit a pain point starting sometime level 35 to 40. The game is balanced around having SO enhancements, but the current xp and inf curves means a character won’t be able to fill all of their slots if they’re only doing missions and task forces. Veteran players avoid the pain point by sending inf from another character, by playing the auction house, or by power leveling through it. Not great options for someone still learning the game. While most players will learn their powersets and archetype, it’s not really fundamental to the game—which is playing a superhero fighting villains. Focusing on things like optimal power picks and enhancements and level-50 content are all player choices. We shouldn’t be demanding that of new players, if we want to be welcoming. It’s possible we don’t want to be welcoming, and just play with the friends we already have here and a few newbies who can jump through our hoops. It’s okay to ride off into the sunset and slowly fade away.
  2. Unless this game is welcoming to new players, it is going to shutdown. Again. I’m sure it’ll last ten more years. But twenty or thirty more? I don’t see it happening. Telling new players that they have to do this or that is not helpful. Especially the expectations that they learn all these game mechanics and systems. No one wants homework to play a game. The game needs to be easy to continue playing first and foremost. Everything else can be figured out later. Players don’t have to be good or effective, as long as it’s fun enough for them to keep logging in. Are new players having fun? Are they being discouraged by game systems catering to veteran players? Or, are they being scared off by the expectations of veteran players?
  3. We fail new players when missions and task forces don’t provide characters with enough resources to fill all their enhancement slots. There’s not enough for even dual-origin enhancements. That basic gameplay loop is broken. You have to play the market or be funded by another character, which is fine for many of us, but a pain point for players new to this game. There's any number of solutions, which would be another topic, but until a player can level a character to 50 and keep all their slots filled with dual- to single-origin enhancements, the difficulty curve is broken.
  4. Players don’t learn by osmosis. Someone has to teach them. If a team is not taking the time to explain things, there should be no expectations. I've played CoH for a long time, but rarely team. For task forces and trials that don’t allow solo play, I simply don’t know them. I try to encourage explanations by saying “I don’t know this mission”. Often someone helps. Sometimes not. This game isn’t any better than who we are.
  5. This. Double kills are double xp. If the team has set the difficulty high for the extra xp, then the team wants the double kills. Double kills are an extra challenge. If the team has set the difficulty for extra challenge, then the team wants the double kills. If the team doesn't want extra xp or extra challenge, why set the difficulty so high?
  6. People in real life share the same name. It’d be nice if we could share names in our play space, too. Of course if you really wanted a particular character name, you could publish a comic book, trademark that name, and then have the moderators genericize whoever’s currently using it. It’s not that expensive too publish these days.
  7. I’d like to see Empath powers self-buff the caster with an effect scaling with the number of other entities affected. No other target means no effect on the caster. Maximum number of targets gives maybe half effect on the caster.
  8. As someone who never did any sort of farming or power-leveling on Live, those experiences can be rather unexpected. But that’s no excuse to be argumentative or rude. Since the OP was trying to be helpful and deescalating, there’s really nothing more that could be done. Don’t punish oneself for others’ actions.
  9. After collecting 100 boxes, including killing the spawns, I had more than enough tokens to buy everything I hadn’t already collected.
  10. Yep. My exact sequence: 1. Open and unlock password manager. 2. Copy game password (which is long, complex, and completely different than my forum password). 3. Open Homecoming game manager, and start regular or beta client. 4. Click password field in the game client. The cursor never starts there. 5. Ctrl-V to paste password into field. 6. Click to go login in. 7. Go back to password manager and copy something else, to overwrite password in the copy-paste buffer. 8. Play the hero!
  11. Yes, there’s too much clicking when selling stacks of salvage. Moving the slider requires dragging the little dot.
  12. It ultimately comes down to answering the question “what am I having fun doing right now?”. It doesn’t have to be one thing and you can change your answer at any time. For myself, I’ve made a character a like playing, so I play that character almost all the time. I’m working my way through all the Ouroboros missions. Not to get badges, nor for a challenge, but because I like playing this character.
  13. This looks like a good idea. Like a “side crit”. Double the magnitude of any side effect of the attack. Debuff, dot, etc.
  14. I just discovered this. The Description tab of the /info box does not get a scroll bar when the text is too long.
  15. I’d go so far as to say that anyone who sets a bomb that is not detonated remotely is doing it wrong. The “remote” part is superfluous. This is the Way.
  16. My one, and only, level-50 character is a Willpower/Kinetic-Melee Tanker. (In Live, my highest character was a 40-something Claws/Regeneration Scrapper. Never got to 50 then.) I spend about 99% of my play time on that WP/KM Tanker. It's probably worthwhile to share my thoughts, although they're certainly idiosyncratic. I suspect that anyone who plays KM almost exclusively is also an atypical player. My WP/KM Tanker was started in April 2019 when I discovered Homecoming. Why did I choose this combo? Two reasons: I wanted something steadier than the Regen scrapper. And I wanted something that fit my idea of Captain Marvel. Willpower seemed like the best fit thematically (and vaguely similar to Regen). And Kinetic Melee seemed better than Martial Arts (too much Smash) or Energy Melee (less range). I like the Smash/Energy type combo, and especially the straight-up ranged attack. I've taken all the powers in KM, except Power Siphon and Taunt. I'm about to remove Hasten in order to take Taunt. I just don't like the feel of click-buff/debuff powers. It makes the character too unreliable, with the fluctuation in effectiveness depending on the click being up or down. My typical attack chain is Smashing Blow -> Quick Strike -> Body Blow -> Quick Strike -> one of the other powers based on circumstances. I like the choice of a single-target melee, single-target range, cone, or AoE. (For an earlier comment about Burst not seeming to hit the expected targets--the affected targets are determined when Burst is clicked. Mobs moving in or out of range while you're animating does not change who could be hit. Repulsing Torrent works the same.) I don't have a good point of comparison to other Tanker secondaries, so I can't say it feels slow or weak. I run my missions at the default +0x1, I never die, and get missions done quickly enough to satisfy me. That's not a good basis for balancing, obviously. Any buff to KM would be welcome by me, of course. I'll never take Power Siphon unless it's a toggle power without a timed switch-off. Please don't balance the set around the assumption that any power in particular is being used (that is, lack of any one power shouldn't make the set useless).
  17. Can you find the pages for default keybinds for the current issue and page? How will we update those pages for the next issue?
  18. This is the main point, for me at least. Previously, we could easily export all the keybinds for a character. This made it easier to modify and share them. That’s not currently possible.
  19. Yep! Or, stand close to get a better bonus mob, if you prefer.
  20. I simply copy-paste from my password manager. Actually, no need to fight them. It’s not like they can hurt you. I know all the words, but I can’t make any sense of them.
  21. Don’t confuse us with facts!
  22. I was wondering why we need such a specific food-based power set. I’d rather see more generic food powers, and let us choose Hawaii vs Italian vs Ethiopian, etc.
  23. Yep, it’s not possible to find sufficient enhancements to fill all of one’s slots before out-leveling them. Nor, to collect enough influence to buy them. At least while only doing missions. It’s a continuing problem for new players that I hope is addressed. Currently, the only way to obtain sufficient influence is to sell stuff on the auction house. Or have your own high-level character send influence to your lower-level characters.
