  1. That really depends what it is, and I've spent years learning the hard way that "not perfectly" generally equals distasteful and not anything remotely what is possible to even put up with. so, not even close. It's not like I'm looking for anything out of the mainstream. or at least what used to/should be. decent writing while being open minded, for the most part having a defined system for how most things work while respecting player consent- this requires the players to have the maturity to want the same- which isnt a thing anymore. All the decent RPers gave up and went to play tabletop. well, 1% of them. the rest just gave up or are too busy.
  2. Ice Ice stalker is the best. it has great survivability due to high CC and damage, decent AOE for a stalker, it slows enemy attack rate and recharges, theres nothing not to like.
  3. Not until it doesn't break the map on areas like perez park.
  4. When I'm on a Troller or Dom, I tend to only use that right away when the enemy is already grouped up tight, or in a chokepoint like in penny yin's last area with the freakshow ambushes. That allows melee to just run into the crowd and burn em.
  5. People who try to push stupid ideas or ways of thinking on others with no right to, pretending to be arbiters of "lore" or RP while pushing an idea that is antithetical to it, Regular jerks, "people" who get enjoyment from bullying, list goes on. if you are a jerk on purpose, you belong on the blocklist. forever. people change so rarely, it's not even a consideration until significant evidence of it exists. Best joke of the century. it has zero filters which makes it by default a perfect haven for bad stuff. like it or not that is always the result of zero barrier to entry and part time halfhearted moderation at a VERY generous best.
  6. This is true, which also means that finding good RP is like rolling a D100, 20 times in a row, and getting 100 each time. the chances of finding or building a group that actually thinks enough alike on the subject are next to nothing. no matter how common sense or reasonable your ideas are, even if they would agree with you, something is always wrong, misunderstanding or otherwise.
  7. There is a fundamental problem with this kind of debate, it never works, it literally can't. Especially with DC/Marvel, any comic world that's gone on so long has had so many writers not caring about quality or continuity, that there is no definitive list or numbers for what the characters can or can't do in given circumstances. ever. Although even a casual observer will note that even infinity gaunlet thanos can't truly defeat Darkseid he is an idea, the very embodiment of tyranny and exists in a dimension where the gauntlet has no power. Darksied is similar to the Kings of Edom from champions lore with one difference, he CAN be driven off for a while. but you'll have to keep doing it every time he comes back as you'll never win for good. he's a force of nature, an evil one. There is a list of heroes or team ups capable of defeating darkseid, yeah. for sure. but never forever. Even within its own universe these comics are super inconsistent, why it's not worth caring about anymore. you want a well constructed world with superpowers and rules, one of the only places to find that is Manga or light novels. and don't expect anything new of any quality from western media for a while.
  8. Headcanon all you want its your right. but don't you DARE pretend you are the arbiter of the "lore" it was never written that way. Imagine if it was, how pathetic would that be? Literally one of the best aspects of COH writing would not exist. pathetic. Not to mention penny yin is a paper thin character with zero real personality behind her. NO ONE likes her, and even less people like those who try and push the idiotic idea of her automatically being more powerful than everyone on others. Get a life.
  9. As fun as it is to watch jerks be beat up, you're welcome to see things however you want. but she isn't stronger than at least some of my player characters, nor most player characters at +3. you are welcome to believe whatever you want. but I choose to see the game as having writing that doesn't make it into the first version of DCUO. No she isn't "the automatic strongest on earth" When someone is written as being "the strongest" in this kind of game, its always excluding a maxed player character. that should be mega obvious. The player characters are the biggest players at 50+3 in the COH hero world. this should not be in question, Penny is good but by neccesity and common sense, not that overpowered. YOUR Personal headcanon she can be always automatically stronger than YOUR heroes sure, if you want that's anyones right. that's you. "The nature of the setting" isn't on your side here. have fun. also the battalion would crush penelope yin without even noticing what they stepped on. they have already been established to be a threat for well above +3 incarnate level heroes, she wouldn't even be a bug to them even if she WAS more powerful than the player characters. which is stupid, but if thats what you want YOUR headcanon to be be my guest. This isn't DCUO. you enjoy that so much go play it.
  10. Yeah she's got a headstart on the average level 50 lorewise. but once you're a +3, you're the more powerful one for sure. Penny is definitely one of the strongest psychics. but, it has to stop there. that's all.
  11. Yeah like Rularuu, Battallion, Ascended gods, not a non incarnate teenager. Sure she's powerful probably able to match some incarnates without being one eventually. but as I said, you can't have a normal character like that be out of the PCs league, ESPECIALLY not a signature one. I've respected how COH treats max level player characters as the strongest (earthly) players, but its clear not everyone has the sense to see how that's a good thing. If Statesman was guaranteed to be the most powerful person in his lifetime, and the player character ends up being seen as stepping up as a replacement for him after who will die, I think the writers were on my side here. (not to mention beating up darrin wade after he gained statesman's powers)
  12. it's a damage over time so I assume thats the total amount of damage over the duration. for a DoT seems pretty good though.
  13. Everlasting is still active but only at certain hours. if you're not on during that time it will seem dead. but during those hours the player count rivals any of the other servers. Also as for attracting new players I think we need to identify the kind of person who, in a modern gaming world would choose to play COH. it's pretty clear to me that they won't be joining for the responsive, engaging, fluid combat, obviously. they will be joining for the things COH actually really shines at, a great costume editor, the ability to play basically anything you can think up, and make it at least viable, the sheer creative freedom. Champions Online, may it finally rest in pieces, may have got the actual costume editing better, with more color channels, better asymmetry, and better proportion sliders, but COH is far from bad on the costume front, and auras as part of a costume editor is how it should be (altho wouldnt hurt to be able to set more than one). Where COH really trumps everything is the fact that the builds you can make for your characters are truly free, as anything can work if you know the system well, while in CO, the more you know the powers and system, the less free you see it is, CO freeform is a sad joke compared to COH ATs, which are in fact, far more free. A friend of mine once said if he made a superhero game you would "Choose a method of attack or 2, and combine it with a choice of support/defense/offense abilities to make your build" and I see now that what he meant was something akin to what Valiance Online was doing for archetypes, which is really the same as how COH does it, but in reverse, you pick powersets and depending which you picked, your archetype is set. so, if you took the ranged offense set and the CC set, you would be a "Manipulator" which is their version of a dom or troller rolled into one, as if you picked support/CC it would be the controller analouge but still be the same archetype category. Really a very similar idea, just executed differently.
  14. I dunno I think thats overdoing it by quite a bit. the signature non incarnate heroes should be on par with non incarnate level 50 heroes for sure, but a +3 player character should be out of their league. Otherwise it's no better than DCUO in the end. Penny yin is certainly one of the top psychics. but as far as I will ever be concerned it ends at "one of" her NPC stats being broken nonwithstanding. and in the end it doesn't even matter what the writers have to say here, becuase no matter how they try and excuse it, that's just doing it wrong. Also the psi sets are incomplete until whatever unique moves she has are avaliable to players.
  15. Well yeah but in a UI full of tiny vauge icons that take way too much effort to get any useful info out of, it's not terrible useful.
  16. So you want a baseball theme? why not willpower?
  17. I don't like secret wars where the characters who participate don't remember it as it does away with any character development that happens, and may as well have not. For RP at least, it works for story writing. If you have a one time oppurtunity that wont come up again to time travel, and use that to undo the end of the world or something, that might work. Just as long as it's not something you coulda done anytime.
  18. you'd think SBB would be more popular due to the easy (Still valuable I think) enhancement you can get
  19. I mean the not all powerful gods are "gods" small g, like asgardians or olympians or whatnot. very powerful beings but far from all powerful. that's going to simply depend in how the character is handled and so forth, and isn't categorically bad.
  20. Not the only issue with certain parts of the community, but definitely one of them.
  21. Maybe it was the combination of what he used and what bio brought to the table that just worked super well.
  22. I have a friend who had an incredibly brokenly overpowered bio scrapper that literally could not die so...
  23. They are referring to the fact a completed build is far more fun than a low level character.
  24. Since when has bio been squishy? wasn't it the most overpowered armor? did it get nerfed?
  25. Weren't you suggesting just a minute ago to have something else too?
