No...I meant Nope. Not yes...simply because I'm not thinking about it. It's subconscious...almost like seeing a red ball and recognizing it as a red ball. π And no...it doesn't impact the game negatively for me...no more than real world stuff does for much the same reasons. >chuckles< I am very aware it is a game...so I don't dwell on any of it. THAT would be asking for headaches. lol

Nope. Unfortunately after so long doing civil design and inspection for public works, all of this stuff pops into my head like a reflexive action. Game, traveling, being overseas, movies...it just doesn't turn off anymore. π° Wish it would sometimes though. Traffic, grading, hydrology...all of it. Won't comment on how many times my family has caught me muttering about the improper street signage and channelization markings in the game and such. π

A lot of those isolated and/or weird structures were due to religious beliefs of the time culture. The more modern ones...well...those boil down to one of three typical reasons; 1) We're more awesome and smarter than any other country...so let's show off; 2) Politicians being idiots (as usual); 3) Either a military need or mining boom. Reasons 1 & 3 tend to be the more prevalent cause after getting reason 2 to buy off on the idea(s). And no, they could not irrigate the desert since it would've been useless at the time...soil issues in terms of water retention & nutrients (the amount of fertilizer/mulch necessary is staggering), wind erosion/migrating dunes, and the fact that the Nile was sacred throwing a religious issue into the mix.

This really exemplifies the difference between game logic and real world logic. π I've been in the civil engineering profession for nearly four decades and some of the zones trip my professional mode switch which has to be beat down by it's just a game at times. lol There is very little of the original Paragon zones that would ever be built the way it is simply due to the costs involved and fact that basic construction physics would stop a few things cold. The war walls would also be economically, environmentally, and psychologically harmful over long term with their height...but that's a different set of issues. That said; I do enjoy the game...despite the logic that Faultline has more life to it that the Hollows despite the fact the Hollows has more intact ground present despite the massive central crater...and less likely chance of catastrophic landslides occurring that would wipe out what's left of things like Faultline does. Boomtown...well...that's a massive breeding ground for all sorts of nastiness. Logically, any attacks that could do that much devastation to things would not have left any of the retaining walls intact either. But...it is also way under utilized for missions these days. Really, outside of a few kill X # of ABC missions, in my experience lately there really aren't many reasons to go to the hazard zones outside of just wanting a change of scenery from what things used to be like. And to me, that is really sad, since as was stated, there really can be a lot to have fun with in most. On the flip side, some of the zones are so villain oriented, such as Kings with the Skulls, that after a while you go anywhere but Kings just to avoid them. The Sky Raider missions are almost as bad with the IP contacts.

The Little Things (story spoilers welcome)

I got a good laugh at Port Oakes in the Red Zone when I got told to "Take off, eh!" by the Canadian on the dock. Looked a bit like Bob Mckenzie. The night sky in Praetoria always makes me stop and just look for a few as well. :) -
I tend towards Radiation and Electric since I solo and they have some minor self-heal and a couple other nice benefits. I use fire and dark on occasion as well. Not a fan of the other sets as I don't feel they protect against as much, including Invulnerable which seems anything but after having played the set before the massive nerf-fest back in the day.

From a civil engineering standpoint, so much of Boomtown needs to be re-vamped...those insanely tall retaining walls (which would never be built realistically). The buildings would have fallen on their own due to massive structural failures via stress at the angles many of those high-rise ruins are sitting at. Skyway's elevated roads and walls are similar. The original zones vs the Gold side city zones definitely high light design for game challenge vs more real world-ish simulation. Agree...more needs to be done with Boom and Fault...and the Hollows for that matter. So many wasted zones with potential.

Unfortunately... (a lot of info in this review about the hurdles involved: https://rpggeek.com/thread/606957/city-heroes-compare-and-contrast-review 0

Was printing some things off this morning and started perusing my game files and found the Quick Play pack of the abandoned City of Heroes RPG that was being done by Eden Studios back in 2005. It covers the Outbreak tutorial, it's background, and how the Vahz were involved...along with sheets for several of the Iconic heroes: Infernal, Swan, Mynx, Luminary, Ms. Liberty, and Malaise Too bad the project got junked and Eden couldn't complete things...it looked promising. More nostalgia from the past. *sigh*

Back before the nerfs started, I could wade into a batch of 12-20 +1's/+2's with only a few DO's slotted without popping more than one or two Inspirations. It had a real feeling of being Invulnerable. Now...trying to take more than 5 +0's seems near suicidal. So...mostly it's a matter of perception. Kinda like us old folks growing up in the 70's when candy bars were a nickel or dime dealing with 2$ for the same, smaller bar today. lol

I was doing some spring cleaning and re-organization and came across my CoH/ CoV boxes....nostalgia set in and I went online and start exercising my search-fu; pleasantly discovering CoH was back with new stuff. π Always loved the game...but got really bummed when my LvL 50 SS/Inv Tank got nerfed from "Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" to "marshmallow squishy status" and left the game not quite a year after the Incarnation system launched. Still feels squishy so I've given up on Tank pretty much and switched to Sentinel as favored class.

An amusing thought: The various iCon Managers...the side commetary on the hero/villain fashions could be hilarious.

It's not really a secret though. Stay home. Eat ice cream! π lol

I also disagree. I'm running a SB/Time Blaster as a solo and ripping thru mobs. I'm loving the power set.

Well...that would explain why my toon froze in combat and became a glorified TARGET for the Syndicate. Is there extra XP gained for "Death by Skynet"? ROFL -
Did Paragon City Ban any cars made after 2013 or so?

They use the ugliest possible models as well since insurance companies refuse to provide coverage due to the frequency in which vandals and clockwork destroy them throughout the city. -
Arenβt the Tsoo a bit out of their league?

If they are there holding the line...wouldn't they be Tsooper heroes in that case or just Tsooper Troopers? -
I tend to be strictly solo since most teams I've joined in the past have almost zero concept of the term tactics and strategy beyond CHARGE! and BLAST EVERYTHING THAT MOVES! which irritates me. I rarely every face plant on missions with myself...with teams...it's like every ten minutes. π lol Mostly I play to kill time or simply explore around new zones or with different power combos...some work for me...others I end up bored or just lose interest in and delete the toon. Since I absolutely hate CoT and BP, I tend to avoid those missions as much as possible. Definitely more laid back and not worried about optimizing etc.

I tend to favor Electric, Fire, Rad, and Dark though Storm is making a real favorable impression so far. Seismic animation just turned me off and it was slow to my perception. The rest of 'em I've dabbled with but didn't last 10 levels before the 'meh' factor had me move on. Then again I play pretty much strictly solo...so that can factor into what one gets out of a set as well.

Suggest a good Gold-side solo character

I've done several toons to 20. Fire/Rad Brute, Water/Rad Sentinel, Electric/Rad Sentinel, Seismic/Fire Sentinel, a few others I don't remember...and am working on a Fire/Dark Corruptor presently. No real issues with any so far...though I do pull the hover trick with the squishies. -
What are you going to pair with Storm Blast when it goes live?
Go0gleplex replied to biostem's topic in General Discussion
I've got a Storm/Time Blaster going that's been working well. -
Just look at Greatest American Hero (1981) or The Phoenix (1982). lol
