We all need to leave this game. It's too good
Go0gleplex replied to temnix's topic in General Discussion
OOOooookayyyyy.... ( Oo ) Someone seems off their meds. Paragon like a real city?! Professionally speaking...not even close. So much stuff that would never ever be built in real life the way they are in the game that it's cringe worthy. One of the things I like about gold side...Praetoria is a lot more 'realistic' that Paragon and Rogue Islands will ever by outside of Kallisti. Part of that is for the a) challenge and b) the original devs were going for the comic book larger than life thing. Time sink...yeah it is that but that's also a matter of personal discipline so if you feel you needs walk away 'cause you can't manage your day otherwise...bon jour. -
I enjoy playing with the various power combos and just seeing how things work together....that said; I think rather than a signature character per se I lean more towards a signature character behavior. Most of the toons I really really enjoy have decent defense with fairly fast attacks with decent damage in the Brute and Sentinel power sets with Blasters being a third preferred AT. Toons that have really popped with me are my Fire/Rad Brute, Elec/Rad Sent, Staff/Refl Brute, Storm/Time Blas, Beam/Elec Sent, and Psi/Time Blas. I'm finding an Ice/Fire Brute to be rather interesting as well. Still no 50's yet since I rotate thru all 30+ toons while soloing. lol Getting close though.

What would you say to trash talk each enemy group?
Go0gleplex replied to KaizenSoze's topic in General Discussion
Freakshow: Give it up you Decepticon never-will-be's! Tsoo: Okay...enough with the Naruto chunni routine you losers. Warriors: The Fonz will always be cooler than you muscle-brained rejects. 5th Column / Council: You call yourselves ubermensch? More like uber-morons if you ask me. Lost: I'm not sure if you idiots are trying to cosplay the THING or the Melting Man but you for sure got the ugly right. Sky Raiders: No matter how much you pretend to be a Sky Captain...you won't be in the world of tomorrow. Circle of Thorns: *sings "I ain't got no body!" mockingly* Banished Pantheon: Unfortunately for you deadheads I shop smart at S-Mart! *sound of chainsaw revving up* Arachnos: Strung along fodder and shoddy second rate machinery...you guys are an insult to arachnids. Family: Oi! Last century fashion disaster...the only thing good about that suit is the stripes won't be outta place in the Zig. Skulls: As dumb as you idiots are you should just call yourselves Boneheads. Hellions: Oh save me! save me! The cute little fire monkeys are gonna sic a daemon on me...*derisive mocking* Rikti: You be scarier if you went the chest burster route rather than the ugly mental case route. Devouring Earth: Sticks and stones? Talk about your Lovecraft let downs. Pathetic. Snakes: Thanks for showing up! I was needing a new jacket and pair of boots! Clockwork: Oh look...the tinker toy rejects finally showed up! Syndicate: You bozos are nothing more than corporate crooks without a politician to back. Mental...the lot of ya. Destroyers: Temper temper....tantrums will only get your spanked. Though from the looks of how y'all dress that might excite some of ya. *ewwww* Carnival: So which of you clowns feels daring cause I feel like making you fly through the air with the greatest of ease! Nemesis: Nice uniforms...let me teach ya why they're circa Napolean Blown-a-part! -
I did heroes and villains. I write up blurbs for most of my characters either when creating them or a bit after I get a feel for them and/or decide I'm going to keep 'em around. VILLAINS Major Holocaust: Brute-Fire Melee/Rad Armor Major Allan of the USAF was the experimental pilot of a spacecraft with a new drive system reverse engineered from Rikti salvage. The test was fine until the engine engaged…and exploded in a massive surge of radioactive fire that plummeted into the atmosphere. Major Allan was presumed dead, however his mutated body washed ashore in the Rogue Islands with fearsome radioactive fire powers, his flesh burned away leaving only a skeleton trapped within his special space suit and a mind warped beyond all morality. General Killerwatt: Sentinel – Beam Rifle/Elec. Armor General Killerwatt is a former Vanguard officer that became seriously disillusioned with the direction of the High Command in regards to the Rikti and other existential threats. So much so that he allied with various underground organizations to develop his power suit and beam weapon, trading Vanguard classified information to these groups as payment. Just before Vanguard Intelligence could arrest him, he went underground disappearing for several months. When he emerged in the Rogue Islands as General Killerwatt, he went on a rampage killing many Longbow and Vanguard agents earning the attention of Arachnos. Volt Rigger: Blaster – Elec Blast/ Devices Quinton Wade is an opportunistic wazzu that had a bad habit of doing half-baked garage experiments. One such experiment blew up in his face, quite literally, damaging his eyes. However, it also gave him electrical powers and jump started his questionable IQ into the actual useful range. Seeing a way to cozy up to the power players in Nova Praetoria, he utilizes his electrical powers and gadgets to ‘fight the good fight’ on behalf of Emperor Cole (as well as rig many elections to always fall in the Emperor’s favor). Finally noticed by Powers Division, he has an invite to shine…or crash and burn in a spectacular fashion. Now in the Rogue Islands, he is ingratiating himself with all of the prominent powers while serving no one but his own interests and rise to fame. HEROES Subatomical: Sentinel – Rad Blast/ Elec Armor Subatomical is what happens when you let a kid watch too much MacGuyver, read too many comics, and then ignore them while they play with those old worn out microwaves they kept dragging home. A kid genius, Trevor Bekmond spent his teenage years building and perfecting his powersuit out of alley scrap and junkyard salvage with the unwavering desire to be a hero fighting crime and beating up bad guys. He succeeded just as he became an adult and now lives his dream…when he’s not on shift at his day job at the parts store. Rod Master: Brute – Staff / Reflexes Dillon Phillips is a retired world champion martial artist that was one of the few survivors of the Hamidon Wars. Taking up residence with his family in Nova Praetoria all was well with life; that is until T.E.S.T. showed up and forcibly took his daughter away to be inducted into the Seer program. His wife took her own life soon after the incident. Dillon vanished as he went into an almost self-destructive training program. When he resurfaced he had cast away his birth name in favor of his new moniker Rod Master. Accepted into the Powers Division, he works with Calvin Scott and the Resistance to take down Cole and his puppeteers from within and maybe rescue his daughter, or whatever is left of her, from Mother and her hospital of horrors in First Ward. Psi-Lent: Blaster – Psychic Blast / Temporal Manipulation Once a mere technician with Omni-Tek, a now defunct competitor of Crey Industries, Craig Williams was caught up in the terrible energies released when the Rikti portal device his lab bosses were working on exploded (due to suspected sabotage). Seemingly he was okay when examined by the responding Vanguard medics other than bruises and such from being thrown. Many of his fellow workers weren’t so lucky, a few even vaporized being closer to the device than he had been. Over the next few weeks, Craig began to lose his voice and displayed several psychic and temporal abilities. He went to the nearest hospital and was soon transferred to a Vanguard medical facility where he was pronounced a mutant. By this time he could only communicate with his mind, he voice no longer functional. Taking on the moniker Psi-Lent, he joined other powered individuals in their fight to keep Paragon City safe. And if he can dig up dirt on Crey, so much the better.

Why do the Ouroboros folks always look so bored? Cause they're just doing the same thing time after time after time after time...

Best AT for a soloist starting with nothing?
Go0gleplex replied to Dao Jones's topic in General Discussion
Best for solo is Sentinel if you like staying at range. Brute if you like to get in close simple due to the rage aspect. IMO they can take a bit more damage than a Scrapper though the Scrap can shred mobs pretty fast. Blaster can do decently solo as well, but if forced into melee range will get flattened fast if not careful. Those are the easy mode ATs. Depending on your tactics and play style, pretty much any AT can solo fairly decently though Controllers and Defenders are gonna have a lot more difficulty due to the nature of their power sets not being geared towards the damage side of things. -
Dude! What happened to your car? It got recalled. Why'd it get recalled? Was something wrong with it? Well...some kids decided to egg it and the next morning I got the recall notice since it was a yolkswagon. They had to tow it though since it had four flat tires and was far-from-movin'.

Ratcatcher, Toy Man, Toy Boy, MODOC, Ra's al Ghul, Aquaman (telepathic control of fish which he used as his combat force...originally), Shadow King...off the top of my head. Also Swarm...their body is literally made of thousands of bees they control.

I ran into my real self on a mission...
Go0gleplex replied to Go0gleplex's topic in General Discussion
That's amusing. 😉 But if we're going IRL... I was in the same school and same grade with a person with the exact same first two names...same spelling even...and the same last name with the addition of 'et' on the end. We kept getting each other's report cards throughout the years I lived in that town. Never did meet in person, though the few kids that spoke to me said the guy was rather ticked off about the whole thing. -
Good thing I'm on Torch and don't need to worry about extra garlic being on hand. :P lol

How confident are you that your build is properly slotted?
Go0gleplex replied to DougGraves's topic in General Discussion
How does one define properly slotted? OCD crunching the numbers slotting? Playing and not having any issues with face planting? Having all invention or special enhancements? I mean...doesn't it boil down to personal opinion at the end of the day in relation to play style? (Oo) (comment is rhetorical. I'm pretty sure the OP was referring to optimal number crunch slotting) 😁 -
The painful reflection...I was a real shadow hound. :) Doing a recover/kill X mission in Night Ward this afternoon and one of the two kill targets was tagged with my IRL surname. Amused surprise since my surname isn't exactly common. Wonder if anyone else has ran into themselves in game this way. 🍩

Scratches that Superhero itch that tabletop RPGs are unable to reach. I've my tabletop tiny starship games and fantasy RPGs for the other moods.

Is early Praetoria (level 1-20) really that difficult?
Go0gleplex replied to Apogee's topic in General Discussion
That's strange...I've never ever encountered more than 3-4 mobs or 1 Lt + 1-2 mobs or 1 boss +1 mob on any mission I've been on with the exception of those that have the flunky wave attacks with most of my toons. I have noticed that depending on my AT at the moment those numbers can go up or down. I dropped by one with squishies like Defenders and Corruptors but increased with strong melee ATs like my Fire Melee and Axe Brutes... -

With extreme prejudice! 😄 No matter which side I'm on (blue/red/gold) at the time. Though on Red side I do as little as possible in Port Oakes; Avoid Kings Row when possible on Blue side; and tend to Loyalist on Gold (must. kill. Reese!) ><

Wanted to Introduce Myself....and ask questions
Go0gleplex replied to WuTang's topic in General Discussion
@WuTang more like a mid-power rather than mid-range since it gets a higher defense (though less than a tank) at the cost of its melee power while it has a high ranged attack (though less than a blaster). But like most ATs, it's how you play 'em that decides how effective they are. :) As Snarks said, some hate 'em while others love 'em. I've had nothing but good results from them and tend to mow mobs down with near impunity myself though I've yet to reach above the 40's range yet due to my Alt-SQUIRREL!-itis. 😄 -
A lot of the MCU and DCU problems are self made due to rehashing the same stories, altering the original origins and characters from the comics, and relying more and more on special effects rather than actual story telling to carry non-existent plots and shallow characterizations. I stopped watching when things got overdone and lost any sense of originality or compromised my sense of the characters from when I was reading about them in ten cent comic books. CoH universe is a different animal as it were just as the CrossGen comics were and I don't see either of the latter saving either of the former from their inept profiteering type management.

Wanted to Introduce Myself....and ask questions
Go0gleplex replied to WuTang's topic in General Discussion
Yes, Tanker and Tank are the same AT. If you do want a ranged change of pace and still have a bit of tank flavor, Sentinel is decent though its melee side is only average at best. Enjoy the game! -
Conversationally speaking; I could see the Devs setting up a PVP server...for all of maybe a week before it was overcome by rolling sage brush and declared a ghost town and shut down again. I do believe the zones set up for such battles already are more than sufficient for those so inclined. Only reason I've ever visited said zones is simply due to my enjoying exploring new places...not for any desire to compete with others over who can create the most face plants.

I've been running quite a bit of red side actually. More than Blue or Gold even... Only arcs I don't bother doing are Circle...mainly 'cause the halls of Oranbega make me feel hemmed in and sometimes trigger my mild claustrophobia. From my viewpoint and play style I really don't see much difference between blue side missions and red side missions other than the flavor text....so yes, I'm gonna say they are pretty much the same horse painted different colors and put in a different barn stall as you go. There could be more variety is what I'm saying...and variety is a good thing. Unlike many folks here, I'm not an obsessive mission fanatic but a casual player. I don't care about the numbers...tweaking every erg of percentage possible from my build...or any of that game pro nonsense. So yeah, I'm gonna have a much more simple view of things since I am not playing beyond Joe sends me to Mike who sends me Gus (which doesn't happen that much red side...almost never have consecutive contacts and have to do a lot of paper missions after Mercy. That's been true with all my red side toons over the last 18 months.

Despite the troll being his typical troll self.... I do agree that there really isn't much villainy behind many of the red side missions. A lot of back stabbing skulduggery between factions, theft, 'kidnappings', and so forth...but the difference between blue side and red side missions of those natures is mainly word play. There isn't a real feeling of villainy behind them. The bank robbery instances with the little arson and store thefts are more 'villainous' in a small town hood sort of way. I know it's not easy to write good villainy and have things still remain player friendly for the younger folks but... Maybe have designated 'open' contacts that belong to individual villain groups with spoiler missions against their counterparts...with a lot more destruction involved. Add strikes against more than just banks in the Informant instance; Blow up industrial sites, rampage thru the Zig to free as many inmates as possible, Steal all you can from a Vanguard/Longbow/Freedom Corps base, Arson strike against an entire zone while evading heroes and such, Go after an upcoming hero (non-canon) or small group of heroes before they become a real problem in the future, Sneak in and sabotage a bunch of equipment at a base or steal Rikti tech being reverse engineered, etc., Assist Arachnos in 'disciplining' a group in the islands that have overstepped the thin red line... So much possibility left in Red side beyond 'same missions different names' from Blue side without going to the PVP zones.

Is early Praetoria (level 1-20) really that difficult?
Go0gleplex replied to Apogee's topic in General Discussion
Not really. One thing is that there is a high number of enemies with Psychic attacks which a lot of ATs have weak defenses against as opposed to Blue and Red sides. Some missions have enemies swarm you or teleport in additional attackers which, if you're not ready for, can mess your day up quickly. You also seem to be at a disadvantage to range as well against clocks and resistance so knowing which need to get dropped first and fast helps your survival rate. Other than that...I find Gold side a lot more relaxing to run through and feel more like I'm in an actual city than I do Blue or Red sides.
