ROFLMAO! Actually that's deliberate and something I've used since the 1980's lass. It's for the eyes. (o0) Though it was also a misspelling I've never corrected and should've been Go0golplex as it was meant to be a subtle tongue-in-cheek joke... 1 (guy) followed by a whole lot of zeroes.

Umm...OP does realize that many of the really coolest names are taken by assignment to NPC characters, yes? (Oo) Granted there are more players than NPCs...but...😶 And that the Devs had to make some naming concessions with the NPCs for the later expansions as not a few of the names considered originally were already in use by players...so I don't see it as a totally one way street here in people not getting the names they want vs what is available. The way the question is presented is similar to a kid yelling "are we there yet?!"...which gives the appearance of yet more entitled whining by someone unable to be creative outside of the box as it were in contextual appearance. Especially since this topic has come up many times before and discussed to dead horse levels.

Slot Machine's Random Challenge (the 20th Anniversary edition)
Go0gleplex replied to Troo's topic in General Discussion
Playing the slot I got a Brute: Battle Axe / Electric Armor. Amazingly enough it seems to be a pretty synergetic combo. Sir Chopsalot is only low level so far (13) but tends to mow thru things pretty nicely. -
Character was reset...due to copywritten costume? WTF?
Go0gleplex replied to Niizzy's topic in General Discussion
At least you didn't get your account shut down and banned as happened to a couple folks that refused to learn back in the early days. I think the character reset/deletion thing occurred at least three or four times a week between all the different servers. -
Differences between CoH and CoV missions?
Go0gleplex replied to Hardboiled Hero's topic in General Discussion
Without going into minutia and mechanics...just a general impression as I play; I don't find much difference between red side and blue side at all. Just different verbage used for very similar missions. It's rare that I even feel like I'm playing a villain vs a hero...probably because I'm focused on playing and the objective not so much the fluff text. I also don't really see any difference in difficulty but then again, I am a much more casual player than most folks here on the boards. 😉 The rob bank missions with a side of total destruction and robbing/kidnapping/arson are about the only time I see the villainy. Though for a place supposedly ran by a powerful villainous organization and strong holds of others, there sure is a disproportionate amount of do-gooders (Longbow) wandering the streets in the Rogue Islands vs baddies all over Paragon if going by 'occupied foot print'. You'd think they'd be open season targets 24/7 when behind enemy lines. -

What would be the fastest Solo'er ??
Go0gleplex replied to smnolimits42's topic in General Discussion
Fire Melee/Rad Armor Brute blows thru mobs like tissue paper. Good defense, high offense, self-heal. Psionic/Time Blaster with Hover does pretty darn good too. Sniper shot drops most yellows mobs and lower single shot. The self heal from the Time is all sorts of awesome once you get it. -
I hope people realize that Ambient Occlusion is bad

Is it even relevant to anything? I mean...if it ain't baroque why worry? -
why cannot people use words right? Remote bomb... remote?

How to arrest someone with a High Explosive Device: First, confirm said device is directional and will explode downwards into the ground; secondly, ensure that said device is secured firmly to the ground appropriately; thirdly, ensure that the upwards facing blast shield has no faults and is completely intact. Thus when said device explodes the blast goes into the ground while the shock wave will only inflict moderate burn and concussion damage to those nearby; unless the idiots were standing on top of it and have their ankles relocated to their skull cavity. :P -
Crey Researchers use Freeze Guns. The Coralax Blue Hybrids have cold attacks. Circle of Thorns Nerva Demons and Hordlings have ice based attacks as well as The Hellfrost which are totally ice based.

Someone REALLY needs to lay off the Supermarket Tabloids...especially while on whatever psychotropics he's been prescribed. ( Oo ) I've not seen that much straw man double talk outside of political ads and ambulance chasing lawyers. The OP does realize that the context and content of fiction is a matter of relevant perception as opposed to non-fictional fact and logic and his posts seemingly point to a significant lack of said realization. This is why many fan fiction authors and some professionals include verbage to the effect of "no one is forcing you to read this so if you don't like it toddle off and don't let the door hit the backside as you pass on." @Scarlet: Far far too much to even begin listing I'm afraid.

If you wanted new powers what would it be?
Go0gleplex replied to darcstarmerc's topic in General Discussion
Being too lazy to go back reading thru the pages of prior posts: (chuckle) Air Blast / Control- example possibilities; Wind Blades Air Hammer / Wind Ball Downdraft Dust Devils (multiple small tornadoes for AoE light damage and To Hit Debuff) Vacuum (dmg and sleep) Air Lance or Drill Wind Chill Humidity Control Implosion I know we got Storm type sets but those are more weather than simply air type manipulation and some can cross propagate... Would also be cool to see an Optic (eye) based Power set someday too. :) -

Go0gleplex replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Well...if being picky (grin) it should actually be "Command Detonated Explosive Device" if going by actual EOD standards. -
I'm aware of that...which is one reason I'm not all that wound up about things or much on computer or board games. They're all limited by their very nature, be it thru programming, the board itself, etc. Hence why free form RPGs will always be superior (at least those with decent rules mechanics. lol ) :P Reality is that same way, you can make an impact but never fully get rid of the lice...errr...bad guys once they've gotten dug into an area. But as you noted, moving from one zone to the next would see a transition from one group to the next. Internal to the zones you've got the difficulty zones which can function in the same way and the borders being friction points where the gangs are fighting for dominance. The way CoH/V is set up, with planning and a bit more careful writing and mission flags, it could've gotten a lot closer to this than most MMO's. WarC**** achieved this to an extent so I know it's not unfathomably impossible. All that said though, as I originally noted, while a bit disappointing/irritating since back in 2004 it's never been enough to make me not wanna play.

While I disagree with the OP on many things there are a few issues with villains and their groups I do find to be a minor irritant; mainly nonsensical placement rather than set territories. I mean the Banished Pantheon for example...makes great sense in Dark Astoria and encroaching nearby. Croatoa is another good example of villain groups fitting into the zone...they don't really bleed out of it. Unlike Circle of Thorns which is like a band of roaches and lurking everywhere...like why the heck are they on dang near every rooftop in KR...I can get behind Perez, the Hollows, and the outer islands in Talos. The Vaz, Lost, and Skulls in KR make sense as do the Clocks. I think the Family in KR would make more sense than the Circle. Most gangs claim a territory and defend it against all others...rather than being mixed together like some large disproportionate urban fruit salad. The other thing just generates a little bit of disappointment (?) or annoyance (?) in that you complete a story arc taking down the bosses or AVs in a zone and then run into more of the same in the next zone rather than being done with that villain group...so there's no real sense of moving on / accomplishment outside of beating the stuffing outta the mobs. The exception to this is the Theiry-Arachnos arc. You bust their base, save the family, and they're done and gone and AP's warehouses are no longer burning down. Sure you still got Hellions and Clocks but they're street rats and it is their territory which you don't see them out of other than in the Hollows & Perez or on specific missions. None of it bothers me enough to stop playing...but that bit of bother is there.

I like to play around with power set combos and experiment with how they play and synergize like Rad Melee/Stone Armor. Mud pots + Irradiated Ground = dead zone for instance. Playing with the character creator is also amusing but I seldom go into things with something in mind other than "I wonder how..."
-
I'm strictly a solo player. Easiest to solo with are Sentinel, Brute, MM, Blaster, Scrapper/Stalker...in that order. Of course power set selection will affect things as well...

How would your toon fit in the world?
Go0gleplex replied to SpookTheHerd's topic in General Discussion
Major Holocaust would likely be one of those kaiju type 'flatten everything in sight' raids against any Longbow or Vanguard facilities given his twisted brain and thirst for seeing the world burn.- 22 replies

Go0gleplex replied to temnix's topic in General Discussion
OOOooookayyyyy.... ( Oo ) Someone seems off their meds. Paragon like a real city?! Professionally speaking...not even close. So much stuff that would never ever be built in real life the way they are in the game that it's cringe worthy. One of the things I like about gold side...Praetoria is a lot more 'realistic' that Paragon and Rogue Islands will ever by outside of Kallisti. Part of that is for the a) challenge and b) the original devs were going for the comic book larger than life thing. Time sink...yeah it is that but that's also a matter of personal discipline so if you feel you needs walk away 'cause you can't manage your day otherwise...bon jour. -
I enjoy playing with the various power combos and just seeing how things work together....that said; I think rather than a signature character per se I lean more towards a signature character behavior. Most of the toons I really really enjoy have decent defense with fairly fast attacks with decent damage in the Brute and Sentinel power sets with Blasters being a third preferred AT. Toons that have really popped with me are my Fire/Rad Brute, Elec/Rad Sent, Staff/Refl Brute, Storm/Time Blas, Beam/Elec Sent, and Psi/Time Blas. I'm finding an Ice/Fire Brute to be rather interesting as well. Still no 50's yet since I rotate thru all 30+ toons while soloing. lol Getting close though.

What would you say to trash talk each enemy group?
Go0gleplex replied to KaizenSoze's topic in General Discussion
Freakshow: Give it up you Decepticon never-will-be's! Tsoo: Okay...enough with the Naruto chunni routine you losers. Warriors: The Fonz will always be cooler than you muscle-brained rejects. 5th Column / Council: You call yourselves ubermensch? More like uber-morons if you ask me. Lost: I'm not sure if you idiots are trying to cosplay the THING or the Melting Man but you for sure got the ugly right. Sky Raiders: No matter how much you pretend to be a Sky Captain...you won't be in the world of tomorrow. Circle of Thorns: *sings "I ain't got no body!" mockingly* Banished Pantheon: Unfortunately for you deadheads I shop smart at S-Mart! *sound of chainsaw revving up* Arachnos: Strung along fodder and shoddy second rate machinery...you guys are an insult to arachnids. Family: Oi! Last century fashion disaster...the only thing good about that suit is the stripes won't be outta place in the Zig. Skulls: As dumb as you idiots are you should just call yourselves Boneheads. Hellions: Oh save me! save me! The cute little fire monkeys are gonna sic a daemon on me...*derisive mocking* Rikti: You be scarier if you went the chest burster route rather than the ugly mental case route. Devouring Earth: Sticks and stones? Talk about your Lovecraft let downs. Pathetic. Snakes: Thanks for showing up! I was needing a new jacket and pair of boots! Clockwork: Oh look...the tinker toy rejects finally showed up! Syndicate: You bozos are nothing more than corporate crooks without a politician to back. Mental...the lot of ya. Destroyers: Temper temper....tantrums will only get your spanked. Though from the looks of how y'all dress that might excite some of ya. *ewwww* Carnival: So which of you clowns feels daring cause I feel like making you fly through the air with the greatest of ease! Nemesis: Nice uniforms...let me teach ya why they're circa Napolean Blown-a-part! -
I did heroes and villains. I write up blurbs for most of my characters either when creating them or a bit after I get a feel for them and/or decide I'm going to keep 'em around. VILLAINS Major Holocaust: Brute-Fire Melee/Rad Armor Major Allan of the USAF was the experimental pilot of a spacecraft with a new drive system reverse engineered from Rikti salvage. The test was fine until the engine engaged…and exploded in a massive surge of radioactive fire that plummeted into the atmosphere. Major Allan was presumed dead, however his mutated body washed ashore in the Rogue Islands with fearsome radioactive fire powers, his flesh burned away leaving only a skeleton trapped within his special space suit and a mind warped beyond all morality. General Killerwatt: Sentinel – Beam Rifle/Elec. Armor General Killerwatt is a former Vanguard officer that became seriously disillusioned with the direction of the High Command in regards to the Rikti and other existential threats. So much so that he allied with various underground organizations to develop his power suit and beam weapon, trading Vanguard classified information to these groups as payment. Just before Vanguard Intelligence could arrest him, he went underground disappearing for several months. When he emerged in the Rogue Islands as General Killerwatt, he went on a rampage killing many Longbow and Vanguard agents earning the attention of Arachnos. Volt Rigger: Blaster – Elec Blast/ Devices Quinton Wade is an opportunistic wazzu that had a bad habit of doing half-baked garage experiments. One such experiment blew up in his face, quite literally, damaging his eyes. However, it also gave him electrical powers and jump started his questionable IQ into the actual useful range. Seeing a way to cozy up to the power players in Nova Praetoria, he utilizes his electrical powers and gadgets to ‘fight the good fight’ on behalf of Emperor Cole (as well as rig many elections to always fall in the Emperor’s favor). Finally noticed by Powers Division, he has an invite to shine…or crash and burn in a spectacular fashion. Now in the Rogue Islands, he is ingratiating himself with all of the prominent powers while serving no one but his own interests and rise to fame. HEROES Subatomical: Sentinel – Rad Blast/ Elec Armor Subatomical is what happens when you let a kid watch too much MacGuyver, read too many comics, and then ignore them while they play with those old worn out microwaves they kept dragging home. A kid genius, Trevor Bekmond spent his teenage years building and perfecting his powersuit out of alley scrap and junkyard salvage with the unwavering desire to be a hero fighting crime and beating up bad guys. He succeeded just as he became an adult and now lives his dream…when he’s not on shift at his day job at the parts store. Rod Master: Brute – Staff / Reflexes Dillon Phillips is a retired world champion martial artist that was one of the few survivors of the Hamidon Wars. Taking up residence with his family in Nova Praetoria all was well with life; that is until T.E.S.T. showed up and forcibly took his daughter away to be inducted into the Seer program. His wife took her own life soon after the incident. Dillon vanished as he went into an almost self-destructive training program. When he resurfaced he had cast away his birth name in favor of his new moniker Rod Master. Accepted into the Powers Division, he works with Calvin Scott and the Resistance to take down Cole and his puppeteers from within and maybe rescue his daughter, or whatever is left of her, from Mother and her hospital of horrors in First Ward. Psi-Lent: Blaster – Psychic Blast / Temporal Manipulation Once a mere technician with Omni-Tek, a now defunct competitor of Crey Industries, Craig Williams was caught up in the terrible energies released when the Rikti portal device his lab bosses were working on exploded (due to suspected sabotage). Seemingly he was okay when examined by the responding Vanguard medics other than bruises and such from being thrown. Many of his fellow workers weren’t so lucky, a few even vaporized being closer to the device than he had been. Over the next few weeks, Craig began to lose his voice and displayed several psychic and temporal abilities. He went to the nearest hospital and was soon transferred to a Vanguard medical facility where he was pronounced a mutant. By this time he could only communicate with his mind, he voice no longer functional. Taking on the moniker Psi-Lent, he joined other powered individuals in their fight to keep Paragon City safe. And if he can dig up dirt on Crey, so much the better.
