  1. Nicely done. Great accomplishment. On a similar quest atm to complete all the game content using my defender. Blue and Gold all done, and working on the remaining (25-30?) arcs of Redside Ouro lvl 45 and 50 content. Ouro arcs are not a crowd favorite, so soloing is necessary 95% of the time, have an idea on how long it takes. After this, will start the mayhem missions. lol.
  2. First off, welcome back. 1st Q: Seems busier than usual. Lots of action to be found on all servers. 2nd Q: Lots of changes since then. Does not feel super nerfed, and maybe leaning more on the other side of the difficulty spectrum. Can be as heroic as you need based on your build/notoriety settings all while depending if your style of play is solo/small team or full team..... can indeed feel as over heroic as you want. Customizible to your needs. 3rd Q: Arch Vills and Elite Bosses can take some time to defeat at higher settings... I have fought some for 30-40 minutes at times. Depending on shard choice and or who's around, you could run the new to you hardmode 4 star settings (most difficulty in game) on Task Forces/Strike Forces in 20 minutes if you need. +Amazes me that a critique to the gameplay from 20 years ago strikes such a nerve tbh, especially to a returning player. peace
  3. Cool! Please update your experience and thoughts after a few weeks of runtime if you can. Was thinking about giving Garuda a whirl, I also have an old laptop. Loving linux so far because of the better use of RAM than the M$ system. I am looking at the Garuda KDE Lite version. Hoping for the least amount of bloat and something way easier than Arch. Currently running linux mint for the last few months, to dip my toe into the linux water. Like it a lot, but it has too many pre-installed apps for my taste. It is very windows like and easy to use, but with all those pre-installed apps it is always updating apps which I do not use or need. (The main reason I wanted to get away from the window$). Next install will be partitioning my drive correctly so I can switch distros on a whim. Others distros which I am reading about: Nobara and CachyOS.
  4. Jillie Suggest hubby downloads Wireshark its free: www.wireshark.org Starts wireshark, with your fire pc firewall off... then you login to game as usual, will be able to see everything that needs to be opened up to play. And he will get a new toy to play with. With this tool you may also find some interesting things your TV is doing. lol. Hope it helps.
  5. about face to the other ip's which were integral in keep this going? move over here or be cast out? player led developement? so who's next, m i d s? replay of what E A did yrs ago.
  6. reminds me of the MIB movie where will smith pulls up the chair and chuckles when the other 'best of the best, sir' have no idea why they are here.
  7. Say on...
  8. Awesome reply. Thank you for your kind suggestions/fixes. Will do as per above, think you nailed it. Older laptop being overworked for sure.
  9. Running linux mint, latest kernel. So, on redside ouro arc missions, relatively few in number... out of 40 or so in last month.... about 5 or so are giving me strange audio issues. It appears to at random times during the mission, comes and goes, or other times lasts the entire length of the mission from entry to exit. When I exit mission door, it always goes back to normal. The issues: sound feedback, looping, distortion and garbled sound. It gets so bad, that I mute the speaker on my laptop at times. What i have tried so far to remedy: adjust sound settings in menu/options for the levels and such within the game... (does not help). adjusted laptop audio settings with the levels... (does not help). Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
  10. So, what kind of an advantage does a player receive by slotting +Recharge into a Defense Power? And also...how do +Recharge set-bonuses and LoTG procs help...(if any)? What kind of benefits are we talking.... miniscule or big deal?
  11. Willing to wager they go down faster due to team buffs rather than enemy debuffs.... as most of the 4* crowds already write about.... that and -Res. imho for +4 and hard mode its all about ChanceToHit and Damage.... and for lower content +!, +2, +3 Debuffs may work better?
  12. so its treated like a typical DeBuff calc... enemy lvl to you DeBuff modifiers +1 = 0.90; +2 = 0.80; +3 = 0.65; +4 = 0.48; +5 = 0.30 ....(see purp patch link) +5 calc shown because its what i had saved (see ResMod link)....substitue ResMod values for +1, +2, etc. IF you can find them for other levels, ranks and factions AV's con +5 to your lvl unless u are equipped with incarnates... it does not take into account the up/down purple triangles thing directly Example: Purple Patch on +5 AV enemy...decreases your power’s Debuff effective strength on the enemy by a factor of 0.30. Player attack ToHitDebuff has 67% original strength, so 0.67 x 0.30 = 0.201 = 20.10% Purple Patch strength…. then it gets even worse. After the attack hits the enemy this happens: (note: this does not apply to sleep or immobilize powers). Because of the Purple Patch, the +5 enemy has 87% resistence to this 20.01% strength. So, it looks like this. 0.201 x (1.00-0.87) = 0.201 x 0.23 = 0.02613 = 2.613% Final Strength side note: -def debuffs are great to build up a super high ChanceToHit for you, but get squashed by the Purp Patch resistance after they connect. This squashed value is what your team's ChanceToHit benefit is from your efforts. purp patch link: Purple Patch - Paragon Wiki Archive ResMod link: Archvillain - Paragon Wiki Archive
  13. cool. thx for that. I thought copy/pasting HC Launcher into winetricks was easy as well. No idea what you are referring to about 'pre-fix'.... I'm just starting out on linux mint. Liking it a lot, can customize it to be whatever you want it to be without all the ridiculous bloatware of windows. Starting to learn about the terminal commands and such. Vcool. may switch over to arch linux in the future once i am more confident in my terminal activity... but for now the 'mint' seems most windows like to get my toe in the linux water.
  14. my list would favor billy smith on the top rung for extra-curricular uses of the goalie stick. lol sry, but not a montreal goalie... but still a goalie, rob esche. rob's a good guy, does a lot for the community around here.
  15. you may get a laugh outta this... story below we were playing late-nite pickup hockey at one of the local hockey rinks.... as usual, i got there late... there already was a full locker room, and about 10+ players warming up on the ice... 10 minutes later a guy opens the locker room door and asks if there is room for one more player.... someone says to em... we are full up... he thanks us and he walks out carrying his equipment... one of the guys who was on the ice already came in the locker room says... you know who that guy was that just left? nope says all former NHL goalie who played in 5 games of the stanley cup.....who lives in the area nearby. never laughed so hard in all my days playing hockey. they told him to leave. lol.
  16. Awesome spreadsheet(s) Vanden! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1apv8NqtecDpYidS0EgpulRMY8_kSTbE7 Downloading them now. Very useful.
  17. Thanks for that. The above link was way above my linux knowledge... so this is how a linux noob got it to work without much fuss at all. So this is how I installed the 'homecoming launcher' and CoH game on my linux mint (cinnamon) full version.. as of 11/02/2023: *In mint, start/administration/software manager... search for and download 'wine'... there will be a choice in a dropdown to opt for 'app package' or whole thing. I downloaded the whole thing and all the separate app packages to be safe....version 8.02 stable. Clicked launch. *Could not get this to work (wine) by itself, so I went back to start/administration/software manager... searched and downloaded 'winetricks.' Clicked launch when done. All good, winetricks is working. *Next went to homecoming forum site to download the 'homecoming launcher.' It downloads in the 'downloads folder' by default in mint. *Next, open the start/administration/software manager... and click the "..." three dot thing and choose to open 'installed software.' *Click and open the "winetricks.".... if it's not already running. *Create a new folder in your C:/programs/game folder... i called mine 'hc launcher.' *Locate the 'homecoming launcher' which you downloaded from the site, in your 'mint' downloads folder... *Copy paste the 'homecoming launcher file into the folder you just made in 'winetricks.' *All you need to do now is 'double-click' to open the 'homecoming launcher', and you should be all set, with internet connected. *Works better after a restart of computer. Hope it helps someone.
  18. as the heading says.... fresh linux mint (cinnamon) install: read that some folks use 'wine' to run the game others using 'lutris' to run the game so, i am supposed to download 'wine' and/or 'lutris' first..... then download 'homecoming install'? ....then open up 'wine' and/or 'lutris' and run the installer within those?... or are those just for playing the game? liking the linux mint so far. should have done this years ago. thx .
  19. so, just a follow-up its fixed. after i saved all the files which i wanted to be sure not to lose with a new win install....including lots of irreplacable photos. was far easier than i thought. lol. watched a guy on youtube. "the last flashdrive you will ever need." opensource (free) downloads onto a flashdrive: ventoy linux mint (cinnamon) open up linux and copied the files i wanted for an hour or so onto other flashdrives....then reloaded windows. done, but got aggravated with the windows install..... 😶decided to wipe the just installed windows off of my clean laptop and give linux mint a whirl. like the simplicity and no bloat.🙃 hope th CoH install will be easy. new to this linux stuff.
  20. Sounds fun. Maybe the defender would need to be able to take a few punches b4 the KO if in the mix.... or some range enhanced buffs are in order? Hope you let us know what you end up going with. Curious.
  21. Played hockey for years, so play my support position (most of the time) lol. I let the damage specialists do their thing and I buff and aggro. (Sometimes the damage specialists do not benefit from my single player buffs depending on enemy it seems, if so, then I just aggro buff. Whatever works). I solo (80% of the time) and small team (4 or less) for the rest. Solo settings are usually +4/2, do some solo +4/8 if I have the time, but takes far longer to go thru larger groups. I am no damage monkey and keeping it at +4/2 allows me to keep the flow going if I team with a few low lvl folks. Sometimes like to take on impossible quests either solo or with one other. lol.
  22. I'm definitely not attached to it. The only two things which are good about it: is has a huge screen, and not quite full size keyboard. Looked at some SATA drives and some memory, about $50 and $30. Its and 2014ish AMD machine, has 2 mem slots. Right now has one 8mb stick and will take another 8mb. 1TB-HDD. Nothing fancy, but it does the job. If I was going to upgrade would go a mini pc ..... like the small size and portability. Could prolly take it to work. lol
  23. TYVM! Think it may be a good time to upgrade the old laptop with a new SATA and some more memory.
