  1. It's hard to teach old vampires new tricks. Did you try logging all the way out of the game after installing the mod?
  2. One additional point to add is that HC is not static -- GMs and Devs come and go. Each new one brings talents and sensibilities that may be different from those that came before. For example, Cobalt was once a mere player with some coding knowledge that had an idea for tips that lead to exploration badges and was brought on board to do that. Then, after seeing the code and having some time, Cobalt got all sorts of ideas and started playing with them in a personal sandbox, then sharing with the team and refining, then sharing with testers and refining, then bringing us things like Aeon SF and the Labyrinth . . . and still refining! (At least, that's how I remember it). That takes a lot of time and effort and can sometimes lead to burnout or life changes that force one to spend less time on the game and more on work and family. All that to say that some things are truly impossible to do with the engine we have, some things are possible but so incredibly difficult and time consuming that it's not reasonable to do, and other things seem impossible or hard until the person with the time and talent figures out a way to do it . . . and finally there are things that can technically be done but aren't for legal or risk management reasons.
  3. There's a reason for it not being in the memorial thread. I didn't want to "harsh the vibe" so to speak. Everyone was remembering their friend and I didn't want to metaphorically go to the funeral and start a fight. I assume other GMs/Devs did the same.
  4. Wow. I go away for eight hours to earn money to buy Christmas presents only to find . . . . this Dang it guys! You hurt Cobalt's feelings and made other GMs have to moderate in my absence. Look, I may have the title of GM but I'm also a player and a human. I make mistakes all the time. I also do not know everything. Yes, I know, you're all in shock at that revelation. But it's true. I did not know that there already existed a policy against adding player-memorial NPCs. If I did, I would have said so up front. If I had, that might make Indystruck feel better, but it might not. And I have a fairly good guess that even if I had that the forums would have similarly spiraled. Some of you have sent me PMs about how I moderate. Specifically, how I have a double standard of warning and giving timeouts to this group but not that group. Sorry, but you are going to have to take my word for it, I spread my warnings and timeouts evenly. You have no idea who has been given a warning, or a timeout, for how long, or if it was me or some other GM. Only the player that got moderated knows that. So yes, what I mostly do is hide posts and ask people to be excellent to each other. I hide them for a variety of reasons but mostly because they are personal attacks against other posters. I don't think that you want me or the rest of the GM team to be handing out more warnings and bans, but it seems like some of you ARE asking for exactly that. You are all free to make suggestions and you are also free to disagree with suggestions and to debate and discuss in good faith and with respect for each other. I am truly sorry that a player passed away. Even if I never met them. They were a part of this community that loves playing a game where you can be any kind of superhero (or villain) and tell as much of your story as you want . . . or just go punch and shoot things. The game is 20 years old and that means we are unfortunately going to see more and more members of the community pass away and every one is a loss. Sorry for the ramble. These are my ramblings and not official policy of HC. In compensation: Here is a badly made piñata of me that you can hit with a stick.
  5. If you quote a moderated post, that post also gets moderated.
  6. Again, please stop the personal attacks and just address the topic respectfully. Oh, and stay on topic please.
  7. Let's please keep this focused on unsung heroes and not pooping pets. Thank you.
  8. Two things: First, it's probably best not to speak for the recently departed, especially if you didn't know them. Second: Let's try hard to NOT live up to the thread's title and encourage trolling behavior. And that is not directed to a person or a group, but to everyone. Believe me, I understand grief having lost a brother, both my parents, and too many other friends and family to count. Grief can easily turn to anger if you feel that your loved one is being disrespected. But let's all do our best not to poke each other. Please.
  9. Hey davidcook, welcome to the game! I moved your topic to the "archetypes" section as I thought it might get more eyes. I would think Tank, Brute, or Sentinel are good starter choices. Tank and brute have lots of armor and hitpoints and get mez protection (immune to crowd control effects). Sentinel also has armor, but weaker and less hitpoints, but it does ranged damage if you prefer that. However, all that said, you can start with anything and successfully solo it through the game for 95% of the content. Good luck with whatever you make and please ask for help here in the forums, in our Discord, or in the game.
  10. Well, now that we have an official answer from Widower, we can close out here and talk about other stuff, including paying our respects to fallen comrades.
  11. I moved this to suggestions and feedback. But I also want to point you to Above the Chemist's excellent popmenu for badges. I have it on all my characters as a macro that I keep on a bar in the top left corner, as the lists get a bit long and needs the space.
  12. No, I think the issue is worth discussing. Instead of locking the thread, I'll just hand out time-outs to those that can't play nice. I know that several of you have a history and don't like each other. Please refrain from having to respond to each other if you are just going to argue and derail.
  13. Can we please discuss this sensitive topic with respect and without attacking each other?
  14. I just spent a few minutes hiding posts that made ad hominem comments about other posters and the posts that quoted those. Please discuss the merits of the proposal, or lack thereof, and not each other.
  15. I see we are having this discussion . . . again. B.E.T.E.O.
  16. Well, this went nowhere quickly. But at least there's a lot of laughing and cheering going on. B.E.T.E.O.
  17. People want weaponless weapons? Oh! Beam rifle powers but shooting through my hands or eyes, for eg. And no deal. People are free to recommend stuff and you are free to disagree with them (as you are wont to do). Assuming, of course, that everyone is being excellent to each other. Besides, I can't make promises about other peoples' actions.
  18. Only you can restrict your imagination. Your lizard is merely wearing his birthday suit! Problem solved through the Power of Imagination!
  19. How about using the Power! What power, you ask?
  20. How about this: Don't call it "Power Armor" just call it "Suit of Armor." Then your costume defines your suit: You can look like Iron Man, or a Gundam, or a Knight, or wear a business suit.
  21. That sounds like something I say: "Expectation is the main ingredient of disappointment." Sorry to disappoint, but you shouldn't expect to post in here anymore. Let's talk about something else and be excellent to each other while doing so.
