  1. ...Seems my example images aren't displaying. Does anybody know why?
  2. My Shield/Psi tank runs into this as well, and I simply don't think it's an issue. Offense and defense types don't have to be matched to each other in this game, simple as that - your power doesn't have to have that kind of flexibility. Your character makes a psionic aura: Okay, great! EA fits nicely as a visual representation. Maybe the aura is a telekinetic effect. That would fit nicely with the ability to put out a lot of psionic energy but it doesn't say a damn thing about what happens in regards to incoming psionics. If it really bothers you, invest in some IOs.
  3. Absolutely. The planned build for my main, a Grav/Kin controller, has the entire Fighting pool in it - stylistically, it matches his concept that was established in the book he's in; mechanically, he's a freaking Grav/Kin controller and benefits both from being in melee a lot and having decent damaging attacks. My MA stalker has it too, because without Cross Punch, she has ZERO attacks that aren't single-target.
  4. I need to use that for my pistols/nin/martial blaster whose power is "hammerspace" - first five costume slots are identical except for the weapons :D
  5. Oh hey I haven't posted here yet. Here's some of mine: Smack Talk, Shield/Psi tank (her planned build has Perfect Zinger procs in EVERYTHING) Zoombie, Savage/Dark speedster brute Argent Provocateur, MA/EA stalker Spectral Relativity, Ill/Time controller Blue Moonrise, Grav/Time controller Cordyceps, Mind/Thorns dom Trueflight, Archery/Martial blaster - old costume from 'kid hero' days, plus current, more polished outfit The Hour Thief, Grav/Kin controller (He dates back to Live and was initially made before the Time set existed, hence his not having it - Kinetics is just better for what he does mechanically, anyway) And Tempo Rubato, the Hour Thief's Praetorian - Energy/Kin corruptor Geiger Countess, Beam/Rad sentinel Lastly, I always seem to get compliments on my WP/Mace tank, The New Colossus:
  6. Thanks, good advice :) I'll do that soon as I have a few extra moments.
  7. Yeah, this is me with Propel on my main. He's a melee-centric controller that I RP as if he attacks with a 'teleport judo' type style, and he really SHOULDN'T be conjuring random large objects that aren't present on the map, but what am I going to do, not take the Damage Power? Besides, in all other respects, the power checks out for what he should be able to do (smashing damage and knockback at range)... he'd just be doing it by means of blinking in, hitting the guy in his blind spot, and blinking out faster than you'd clearly see, sort of like how Vorpal Judgment is (which I also wouldn't RP as being exactly how it looks, because the Hour Thief should be throwing punches, not kicking, however it's still the best Judgment option for him thematically). I also play Kinetics as being time manipulation for him - he was originally made back on Live before the actual Time set was a thing, and I haven't remade him as Grav/Time instead of Grav/Kin because /Kin has the drain-and-transfer mechanic that /Time lacks, and that's a bit central to the character.
  8. The oven door is a bar table tilted on its side with a fluorescent light (off) for the handle.
  9. I charged $80 for Spellshot, a simpler design could go down to 70.
  10. I can't believe I missed this! I would have showed up on New Colossus.
  11. When all else fails, there's always the alphabet letter I, but that would take FOREVERRRRR.
  12. Don't forget the Unseelie that spawn around Halloween Eochai! :)
  13. Hugh Jackman, hands down, for the Hour Thief. The first three roles he's done that spring to mind for me: -Superhero possessing extreme longevity and the wariness of forming too much attachment that comes with it -Teleporting magician with a dark secret -Repentant thief trying to do right by the world while fleeing implacable pursuer And Edmund, the wizard who maintains immortality by pilfering bits of bad guys' lifespans, happens to be all of those things (the implacable pursuer is Death and/or Talons of Vengeance; little less mundane in his case than Jean Valjean's but I feel the comparison stands).
  14. Perfectly capable of drawing minors in a general sense! Here's art I did of some teen mutant characters belonging to my friends and me - they're in plainclothes but nothing stopping me from doing tights in future art:
  15. Incidentally if you don't want to pay quite as much I'll do a half-body for less, like this one for @Havensong of Spellshot:
  16. ...Here, have two more examples; these were done since making this thread so they're truly current.
  17. I do pay attention to what my characters are supposed to be able to do according to concept when building, and when those criteria are satisfied I shoot for survivability so I have a chance of not faceplanting when I type stuff during fights. Sometimes this means not doing what people would call optimal: my archery blaster has knockback procs in all her melee attacks except Ki Push doesn't need the help - she's a mutant with short-burst tactile telekinesis, which makes her shots super accurate and means that when she shoves somebody who's up in her face away, they get shoved AWAY. Indeed, Ki Push is the reason she's a mutant at all; I would have been perfectly happy to play a Natural origin, but since Ki Push isn't skippable, I felt compelled to explain how an inexperienced teenager could send a guy flying like Bruce Lee... and since her power works 100% subconsciously (i.e. the only control over it she has is where she's aiming or whether she lands a blow in melee), if one kind of hit will do it, ALL will. Somebody's probably going to complain at me at some point because ew knockback but I don't care. And then there's my psi melee tank, whom I named Smack Talk, and with a name like that I feel OBLIGATED to put Perfect Zinger procs in every attack.
  18. I have a pan trans character and an ace character! If there were a parade and I brought someone it'd be the former though because the ace character reacts badly to being touched and doesn't do well in crowds.
  19. Kitchen stuff time! This toaster is an upside down trash can, the very tops of two fire extinguisher wall mounts for the slots, handguns for the levers, and the top of an Enriche bottle for the knob Exploration badges make great burners for a gas stove! And for those who prefer not to have a biohazard fridge in your food prep areas, this is a white counter tilted on its end with a white wall cabinet placed to cover the gap in the geometry, and two wall cable bundles for door handles.
  20. RP during missions is much, much easier on some ATs and set combos than others. I main a Grav/Kin controller, and he's very clicky and fiddly and requires a lot of attention to play effectively, especially with Teleport as his travel power. This isn't to say I never RP him during missions - on the contrary, I love doing it; I can't get enough - but in the past, I've made a SR/StJ Tank alt of him and let me tell you it is a huge difference in terms of how punishing it may or may not be to take a second or two to type out and send a message, being on a non-squishy. Yes, Controller vs. Tanker is just about the biggest difference you can get in terms of survivability in general, but if I'm devoting my full attention to the mechanics of playing a Controller, I don't faceplant very often; I've had him for a very long time and I have a good sense of How Not To Die While Optimally Contributing To Fights. The few moments necessary to type out a message can mean a missed opportunity to hit Fulcrum Shift or Transfusion, or letting enemies go unmezzed - or worse, faceplanting. A melee AT or an AT who's built to operate exclusively at range (he's not; Kinetics needs to be in melee to benefit from half its own boosts) doesn't have that problem. And, ESPECIALLY if I'm RPing, I don't want to be facedown because the Hour Thief is supposed to be elusive and impossible to kill. Tl;dr - I love RPing during missions, and I almost always prefer it to not RPing during missions, but I also know from experience that it's not always totally possible.
  21. I LOST IT at Nemesis! Mary Macomber: Takes the kitten without a second thought and shoos you away. What did you expect?
  22. At the risk of sounding too forward: Hi, I'm Flashtoo, and I'll draw your characters if you give me money. Special Quarantine Discount Arts! In addition to my usual work (still available, see below) I'm selling HALF-PRICE DRAWINGS with SIMPLE COLOR. Discounted art is fully digital as opposed to having real-pencil lines, and color is flat or with optional cel shading. No complicated poses or background elements. Extremely detailed costume parts may be simplified. I'll still run stuff by you for approval! Discount Head-To-Toe: $60 Discount Half-Body: $35 Discount Headshot: $20 Discount Art Examples: Tl;dr breakdown of basic pricing - Full color, Head-to-toe: $120 and up (depending on complexity) Full color, Half-body: $70 and up Full color, Headshot: $40 flat Clean pencils, Head-to-toe: $65 and up Clean pencils, Half-body: $50 and up Clean pencils, headshot: $25 flat Price is per character - adding a second character to a picture may up to double the price Moderate to major variations on the same picture e.g. different weapon options or hairstyles are doable at varying price points based on the nature of the variation Addition of color to pre-existing lines (either mine or lines you have purchased from another artist with permission to have them colored later) can be done for the difference in price between my own colored and clean-pencil work. Free services I will provide for customers - Any full-color image will be provided in both web-ready and print-ready formats Recolor of colored art previously purchased from me Minor variations e.g. with and without special effects Compositing two or more previously-purchased images into one, e.g. for character lineups The detailed version of what it says above: Basically, I could use the money and I need to keep myself in practice. People and animals (and mythical creatures for that matter) are my favorite subjects for drawing, so that means CHARACTER PORTRAITS FOR SALE! I'm usually pretty quick - you get your art within a few days of starting, generally, barring outside forces preventing me from doing work (i.e. illness, equipment malfunction, etc) - and I take payment half upfront and half on delivery. You receive: A high-resolution Jpeg suited for printing, and a png sized for web display. Typically I charge $120-$160 for a full color head-to-toe character* with simple background elements if desired and variants such as "Can I have a second version in which the character is wearing a hat" and "Aura on/aura off versions," and this includes constant consultation with you on things like posing, expression, exact details, and any other point to make sure you're getting something that satisfies you completely and captures exactly what kind of energy you're hoping for to represent your character. If there's anything that's even slightly unclear, I will clarify it with you before proceeding. Also, if you want something changed later like a weapon or armor upgrade on the same picture, I'll do that for a smaller fee based on the magnitude of the change unless it's just a straight color swap or compositing two existing images I've done to you into a single file (e.g. for a character lineup) in which case I offer that service for free, included in the original price. If you want something that isn't stated outright in the above pricing breakdown like cel shading, a complex background, or for the image in question to be prepared as a tattoo design instead of an art print, I can do that too and will gladly discuss that with you and how it will affect pricing. *adding a second character increases the price accordingly, up to double the cost of a single-character piece if both characters have complicated designs Examples: Want more examples? Here's my dA! What I need from you to begin: - Screenshots are good visual reference, saved .costume files are even better. Mostly, this is all I need and I can do the rest from verbal description. Exception: If you want a character wearing something that isn't present in the game at all, you don't necessarily need to give me pictures, just a description of what you want (e.g. "an evening gown and high-heeled ankle boots with fancy jewelry," "eighteenth-century French military uniform," or even "an outfit that looks like it belongs in [insert other canon that has a distinct style here]" etc) and I can extrapolate/design based on that. - If you do have something very specific in mind that isn't possible to capture in a screenshot, send a photo of that too. For instance, if your character has a particular tattoo, if there's a particular celebrity or model you imagine having a similar face, or if one of the costume parts you've used is a case of 'this is just the closest but actually it's like this,' send me pictures of those things if possible, as it takes away some guesswork. - If you have a pose or action in mind, obviously say so - especially if it's two characters. Images of similar poses are helpful but not mandatory. - If you're ordering two characters in the same picture, I need to know how tall they are so they can be drawn proportionate to each other. - Please, please give me a few words on your character's general attitude and personality. I don't want a full life story, but some descriptors like "bookish," "focused," "laid back," "genki," "flirtatious," or "Spider-man-like wisecracking" will help me with body language and expression. What I will and won't do: - YES: Work with you to get everything perfect. I mean it. - YES: Characters that exist anywhere along the spectrum of 'fully human' through all levels of anthro-ness straight to semi-realistic normal animal or mythical beast of any species. - YES: Non-human body plans e.g. centaur, extra arms, insectoid, or whatever else. - YES: Mechanical stuff WITH REFERENCE PROVIDED. Rigid, inorganic shapes are not my specialty and while I don't mind if they're part of your design, they're harder and more time consuming for me to do and I'm not up to the task of being terribly inventive with them. - YES: Blood, wounds, and general body horror to a moderate degree. I draw the line where I have to learn any more internal anatomy than the skeleton. Tetsuo? Sure! But no vivisections, please. - YES: Sexy pin-ups of any gender, provided the character is an adult. - YES: Child characters in a wholesome context (e.g. no situations that could be seen as sexual or otherwise too dark) - YES: Incorporate elements of a particular genre or style on request if such would deviate from my norm ("more anime," "Disney-like," art nouveau, etc) - YES: Characters from things other than CoH; I'm not picky. - NO: Hardcore pornography. Non-sexualized nudity is OK (Dr. Manhattan, Michaelangelo's David, Birth of Venus). - NO: Torture scenes. Interrogation and toying with an enemy at a character's mercy is not necessarily torture. - NO: Vomit. Personal phobia, sorry, non-negotiable. Bleeding/oozing from the mouth is OK but no depictions of violent expulsion of stomach contents. - NO: Vore or cannibalism. Presently: Open For Business I'll take up to four customers at once. Send details on what you want through forum PM or Discord - I'm Flashtoo#8329. Waiting list - 1 Lady Cat 2 Clam Leader 3 4
