The method I used was getting to level 5, locking Experience, getting the Atlas Mayhem, unlocking Experience and levelling up on other missions, then using that Mayhem as a rinse-repeat grim harvest of the single hero who kept showing up to stop the bank robbery. Also took a route to the bank which would run past Mailboxes, Fire Hydrants, Newspaper Vending Boxes, et cetera, and made sure I got over 15 minutes on the clock before exiting and rebooting the Mayhem (otherwise the timer doesn't reset, and if you dip below 15 minutes, you can refresh the Mayhem this way). Yeah, it was repetitive, but quick and rewarding. -

Someone informed me that SCoRE gives 2 billion Inf to each account, if you ask, apparently? Any of you SCoRErs able to confirm that? Any of you seen any kind of indication of a negative impact to player retention there that isn't more easily attributed to Homecoming having the larger and more stable population? -
AFK without the Tell reply functionality?
GraspingVileTerror replied to Dispari's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The problem with that, @Nerio72, as @Dispari just explained is that it causes an auto-reply to any Tells that are sent to you. We're looking for a solution to that problem. -

I'm here for it! Even an option for a "..." to animate over our characters whenever the chat bar is active could be very helpful. -

Redside DFBs and low level Redside support. (Not much)
GraspingVileTerror replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Ok. Not to totally derail, although we do have a small army of threads about Redside already (and even one "official" one by GM Miss https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/19655-weekly-discussion-53-how-to-increase-villain-population/ that covered almost everything quite thoroughly), but . . . That "forum avatar as a window in to the soul" thing? Given how many different reasons people choose to have images (or choose -not- to have them), the wildly different social locations and cultural backgrounds, the different kinds of communities and different codification of symbols (ie: TraumaTrain's symbol is from this game, which would change the context significantly if that were used on a website unrelated to City of Heroes), and the generational gaps that are almost completely invisible online, I feel any research on that topic would have to be monumentally extensive to hold any kind of water. I mean, the research in to colour preference and mood is still on-going with a lot of conflicting results, last I checked. I don't see how any researcher could confidently state they have a final solution on the correlation between personality factors and little pictures online. And, I suppose to try and loop that back in to the Redside discussion . . . not that everyone would necessarily agree (*coughs while looking toward a couple of the usual suspects who haven't entered this thread yet*), the personal reasons that people who -do- play Redside are quite varied and personal as well. After all, there are some people who feel Redside is on-average more heroic than Blueside due to how many missions are framed in an anti-establishment context. Their real world lived experiences contextualizing those missions in a positive light. Not everyone here is motivated by the in-game rewards to the same extent. I am fully aware that Redside gives fewer Merits per unit of work than Blueside (*glares menacingly at Mr. Bocor's piddly 2 Merits for a series of 3 Defeat Alls*), but I still choose to play Redside for the most part due to the more cheerful and familiar ambiance, characterful writing, and opportunity to frequently combat Arachnos and Longbow, amoung other reasons. And and . . . Willem Dafoe is amazing. I still need to watch The Lighthouse. -
While attempting to zone in to an instanced mission in Cap au Diable, my game suffered the following error: As I attempt to screencapture it, Windows 10 did a soft-reboot, reloading all windows for all applications I had open, causing a few of them to permanently go blank and forcing me to close and restart the effected programs. Hitting "Ignore" on the error seemed to allow the game to proceed as normal, finishing the loading time for the instanced mission.

"Fun" is a Four-Letter Word
GraspingVileTerror replied to GraspingVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
There was a lovely quote I saw recently which I think might sum up what you're getting at there, @CrystalDragon: "It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences." -Audre Lorde While the origin of that quote is in regard to something quite a bit more important than our little gaming community here, I do think it's a beautiful sentiment that is absolutely applicable! -
One can do this in a really roundabout way with the demorecord feature, so having a quick and easy way to capture a costume file directly would be a big time saver!

Rogue Legacy: Alternative to Iron man/woman
GraspingVileTerror replied to KaizenSoze's topic in General Discussion
You know, it's been a while since I've played Rogue Legacy. Additional idea! Any IOs you have when you scrap a character need to be scrambled once each with Converters by Rarity! Then you can choose your new Archetype and Power Sets from there, using the randomized IOs as the basis for your decision. Yay-nay? -
A lot do. I use Element and Teamspeak, personally, due to the severe issues with discord in particular. But, based on what I see frequently in chats, there is no shortage of discord groups in effect. You'll probably be spoiled for choice if folks start volunteering their servers. You may also want to consider searching "discord" here in the forums, specifically tagging this Roleplay board and the Everlasting board. There may even be some invite links that are still active.

Or just give the bags to everyone.

These are popular suggestions, and come up from time to time. The former idea has been toyed with on and off in the form of showcasing player-made AE content with a Featured tag, but as for making it official, there seem to be some barriers in place there. It's generally not spoken about, but ownership and licensing issues do present themselves. Essentially, any player-made content would need to be released (likely through something like Creative Commons Zero), and the original author would lose their authority over that content. Likely, anyway. I can't speak with absolute certainty on that. Making low level content accessible by high level players has some other concerns which limit the interest of some Devs from allowing it. Notably, low level content is populated by enemies which pose less of a threat than high level entities, and very few factions in the game have units which exist through all levels of play. One solution would be to add new enemies to those factions to increase their difficulty at higher levels. That would take some considerable effort, as it would necessitate entirely new creations which would need to be balanced. Of course, that would also mean entirely new content! So, it's worthwhile in its own right. It just takes time. We've seen Piecemeal do this with the Freaklok, and Piecemeal also expressed plans publicly to tackle the Warriors (no word on when that's coming down the pipeline, though. Could be next year. Could be later.) The other solution is to just simply allow players to complete low level content at higher levels with the reduced challenge, and tone down the rewards to match. Again, it's not a non-zero amount of work, and I don't know of any existing Dev who is interested in that idea. No Dev volunteering to do it means it's not going to happen. There's also the narrative conceit argument against allowing high level players to do low level content. I strongly disagree with it, but will include it for completeness' sake: Some believe that the game "tells a story" with the way the content is laid out per level. I think that particular ludonarrative is WAY too dissonant to ascribe such a high value to it, but we're each entitled to enjoying different aspects of the game. So, I won't tell any of those players that they're wrong to like what they like, but I will say that adherence to that narrative does create a barrier for other players to more meaningful engage with the game content on their own terms. In any event, I think your ideas hold a lot of merit, @aeb. Thank you for sharing your feedback and ideas! Please continue to do so. Hopefully we'll see some progress in those fronts. Maybe a Dev could comment on them and we can get a less speculative answer.

OH MY DAYS HELLO AND THANK YOU
GraspingVileTerror replied to WhiteGuardian's topic in General Discussion
Welcome Home. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. And just as a little bit of principle information, the five Shards: Torchbearer was the first Shard up to the public for the Homecoming Servers. It has a moderate population. Excelsior is the most populated Shard. Indomitable is the officially unofficial PvP Shard, but that doesn't change any of the gameplay. It just means more players interested PvP tend to call that Shard home. Everlasting is the officially unofficial Roleplay Shard, and boasts the largest ratio of Villains-to-Heroes. Roleplayers are evil, apparently (and I'm saying that as an avid roleplayer!). and Reunion is the European Shard. All other Shards are based out of Montreal, while Reunion is based out of Germany (based on the last update I received on this, I might be wrong if the physical locations have changed). See you in the City! -
"Fun" is a Four-Letter Word
GraspingVileTerror replied to GraspingVileTerror's topic in General Discussion
@roleki beat me to it, but yes: People derive a sense of enjoyment from -sad- things that they definitely do not describe as "fun." This has been the lynch-pin in many versions of that particular discussion in the past. And a game does not need to be fun to be enjoyable. Not everyone will agree with that, but since -some- people hold that to be a self-evident truth, the subjective nature of fun and enjoyment manifest that truth. It's not my intent to be rude here, but I'm not sure I can address this without being blunt: I really think you missed the entire point of this thread, @Blackbird71. This isn't meant to be a debate or an argument. The purpose of this thread was a call for individuals to share their points of view and insights in regard to their personal and subjective opinions on the concept of "fun," as it relates to City of Heroes in particular. We've seem great examples of this, and I really want to thank all of the active participants for their support in this. We've also seen how different professional disciplines shape our various views on the process of defining "fun," with @DrZeus' perspective being one familiar to me from my own professional perspective. My hypothesis was that we would see a lot of people giving significantly different answers, but all of those answers are valid due to the personal nature of the question. And the point of that? To emphasize to members of this community who may not have realized yet, but "fun" isn't universally defined, even if a dictionary or two have a definition written down (which, have been subject to change, historically, so it's not like that's a viable definition either). Additionally, "fun" is not an ideal target for developers to pursue in regard to work they're doing on a game. ESPECIALLY an MMO. Especially -THIS- MMO! Fun is an absolutely important metric for feedback, though. So, I don't want anyone to feel like they can't talk about their own personal experiences with the game in that context. I only wanted to illustrate how it's not terribly effective to brandish "fun" as if it were an objective fact or universal motivation. In fact, we've already had at least TWO participants in this thread admit that this game is decidedly NOT fun for them, but that doesn't stop them from playing, as they have other important motivators keeping them present. The Homecoming Servers have an official mission statement to put effort toward being welcoming to everyone, and to make City feel like home. Their mission statement isn't "to make City fun." And, yes; a "fun City" is absolutely the most welcoming City for some people. But it's not the sole metric by which we measure this game's importance. And that's crucially important to remember. And, to @tidge; I get the allure of trying to express something in a witty way. Goodness knows I try (and fail) to inject some sardonics in to my posts here and there. So, I'm not going to pretend to be guiltless, but there's a chance your criticism came across as needlessly aggressive due to a lack of context in your post. Some levity is helpful on occasion. The song lyric post, I think, fit that purpose better. I believe all the members of this community (again, myself included) could stand to be a little more even-handed when criticizing others. And, to that end, if I overstepped with this bit, please feel free to let me know. I'll try to do better next time. -
My Roleplay Problem: I Suck at Clubbing
GraspingVileTerror replied to GraspingVileTerror's topic in Roleplaying
I think you have a lot of great insights, @TwoDee, so thank you for sharing them! And I don't mean to split hairs, but I do think it's important to address the statement "we're all chasing ..." As I just brought up in the other thread about advice tidbits; nah. That chase ain't my bag. I've had WAY too many bad experiences from someone (including myself) jumping in to a scene without OOC negotiations first. At this point, I would be too rife with anxiety and concern to enjoy an otherwise "glorious, angel-descending-from-heaven introduction," no matter how many check boxes it struck.
