What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
justicebeliever replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
Almost all of the "superhero mania" in mainstream culture is really just driven by the MCU stuff. If that falters, expect superheroes to largely disappear. It's not like superheroes movies didn't exist until Iron Man. They did, quite a bit, and remained niche. What's not niche is MCU, but don't expect it to bleed over to superheroes as a genre. But it has - what about the CW’s Arrowverse (6 shows this year). Way better than their movie counterparts. Shazam, WW, and Aquaman did great at the box office. Sure Marvel was the genesis, but what they proved is something almost no studio was willing to try - you can take a b-level or even c-level property and write a good story with good characterizations and you can make money. Aqua man did 3X Warcraft’s box office -

I have no problem with you having your own opinion. Everybody's gotta be wrong at some point. And maybe, some day, it'll even be MY turn! ;) Seriously though. As long as everyone stays moderately civil, I have no problem with the conversation, and we can always agree to disagree. I don't think people who don't see things the way I do are inherently evil. (Well, not much...) =) I was just being silly...but seriously I do agree with this post 100%. +1 inf -

Bossy Hogg...before I forget I really love your forum name. It’s interesting when someone presents an opposing opinion on the forums that is disagreed with, you could either, ignore them, or present a convincing set of information designed to sway them. Instead, many go right for being pedantic, insulting, and assuming the worst about the person they disagree with. This is supposed to an immersive game environment, as opposed to a text game or tabletop version. So some level of realism is to be expected. Obviously not complete realism or the characters wouldn’t even sprint in this game. If you disagree that’s fine. But it’s table stakes for me, so agree to disagree or ignore me. As for slippery slope, I never go there and have called it out on the forums several times. I have no problem on power leveling either and have shown support for it many times. So without bothering to get to know me, you’ve assumed the worst of my character...I will assume that this was just an oversight on your part. Finally, you actually ended with a reasonable suggestion...improve the NPC AI. Realism? Check. Totally a +1. And I really do like the name. -
I have to say this is really good advice for Role Play! And Forum Posting... And Teaming... And RL! +1 Zolgar Meh. While the idea behind it may be good general advice, my experience has typically been that those who proclaim this phrase the most vocally are often also those most in need of following it. Not always of course, but regularly enough that it raises a red flag when I hear those words. No offense Zolgar; I only know of you what I've seen on these forums, and from what I've seen you appear to be a regularly helpful and respectful individual. Hopefully you view me in the same regard, but regardless, hypocrisy doesn’t make the advice bad or even the advice giver, it just means the person giving it is being a hypocrite. For myself, I do catch myself having to apologize sometimes for being exactly this.

/jranger your /jranger (can we stop acting like this has any merit or weight?) YOU can just turn off YOUR stealth powers. Moreover, the stupid NPC's get lost and lag behind even without stealth powers due to poor travel speed and pathing. I didn’t just /jranger it. I provided a reason. If I had just said No but provided no reason would that be better? sheesh... I can just turn off this or that, etc, but frankly I would prefer to not have a checklist of all the manual ways I could make this mission harder outside of the game mechanics. If I start stealthed, I am likely to stay stealthed until the game gives me a reason to turn it off. Conversely, you can just autocomplete the mission or lower the difficulty. Challenge works both ways. Beyond that, common sense tells us that average joe NPC wouldn’t have +perception. I am just being consistent here as well which is driving part of my resistance. Why would a NPC have a better chance to see you than an enemy? It’s not logical. -

Sorry - I'm often unpopular, but /jranger. I like the challenge of having to get the NPC's to the door, and if I am stealthed, then I would expect that they can't see me. What's good for the goose is good for the gander... -
I thought about something like that. "Sub-Orbital Flight" or something. I didn't want to steal Long Range Teleport's thunder. Long Range Teleport is a sharing kind of power...He's humble... ;)

What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
justicebeliever replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
Yep. Niche. The Marvel/DC movies have BRAND RECOGNITION. So their draw is wider. EVERYONE knows who Superman and Batman are. EVERYONE knows who Spider-Man and Wolverine are. The most common question I get when wearing Statesman's star? "Ooh! Captain America?" Remember the Russian-made "Guardians" film? Made a whopping $15M on a $5.4M budget. Basically CoH's lore has almost zero societal penetration. Whereas the Big Players have had 75 YEARS of exposure. I promise I'm not just following you around Hyperstrike...guess we are just interested in the same stuff (although from different view points). Marvel has done a great job expanding Superheroes from a niche into something much bigger...and DC's Arrowverse, and Marvel's now sadly defunct Netflix effort have pushed boundaries as well...So i think it is no longer a niche market. I think something like CoH could make a strong comeback if a.) it was legally licensed, and had b.) updated graphics and combat engine to appeal to current gamers. It wouldn't matter that the lore is unknown outside our community, because people have become used to be exposed to characters they barely know and really enjoying them (Shazam, Aquaman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ms. Marvel, Black Panther, etc). But certainly at the time CoH launched it was a niche market indeed, and Warcraft had a solid gamer base that trusted that World of Warcraft would be something awesome... -

You got a bit more than that. Finishing the zone, physically, took no small amount of effort. In the mean time, you have projects for various things going on and various things "falling over" and needing fixing. You also have multiple projects partially implemented or tried, failed and dropped as well. Honestly? The BIGGEST beneficiary of the last 7 years has been BASES. Go look at the base editor as it exists NOW and tell me multiple kilo-buttloads of work didn't go into that. With a sufficiently large and trusted dev crew? Sure. Things can speed up. Hyperstrike, by no means am I diminishing the work of the Dev's...They have done amazing work - removing the microtransactions while still provide those elements in the game, bases, powersets, AT, badges, echo zones, the AH, etc...What they have done, for a small, all volunteer crew is nothing short of amazing... And you bring up a good point, which is all the time spent learning lessons by trying things out that ultimately didn't work out... Content is so broad - new story arcs, new TF's? Low level, mid level, high level, incarnate? Blueside, Redside, Goldside? Beyond just the storylines, can we get new enemy factions, new types of maps? The matrix there is really, really broad...And what's going to be most requested are new high level TF's for Blueside and Incarnates. So "the Devs" if they are trying to appeal to the broadest part of the community they will be ignoring a lot of content requests...So how does it grow? With more than just "Devs" and pulling in more and more of the community to do the work... -

There's the portal corps https://corps.ouro-comdev.com/index.php?title=Main_Page That’s awesome. It’s not for me as I am not that creative. But I am hoping we can start encouraging more and more people to crowd source content creation. I am glad the tools are centralized like that. -

Indeed correct about Teleport. My bad, I forgot about that one. I would be happy if you could enhance it at all without needing to take another power to get afterburner. Something is better than nothing. I was thinking Fly+Enhancements < Afterburner But still faster than Fly unenhanced. Are we thinking the same?

And in return, I will say that (a) you're extremely lucky, and (b) I daresay your investment experience is significantly atypical. Most Americans these days not only cannot retire twenty years early ... some of them never feel like they can retire at all, and work right up until they die. :'( I 100% agree with you. I was very fortunate and count my blessing ever day. You are talking where the money comes from...that's not what I am referring to...You aren't allow to hold $$ in your 401(k). It has to be moved into a fund that the 401(k) provides or manages. And that fund is going to be mostly corporate equities...So you are now the proud owner of several Big Corp stocks... I can't speak to your grandmother...but if she is treating it as an emergency fund, I would imagine she would be very distressed if it just up and disappeared on her...There is a certain peace of mind of knowing emergencies are covered... EDIT: Just saw Widower's response earlier in this thread...and I had already tried to step away from this topic...My own fault...Respond as you will Pax, but I will remain silent...If you wish to send me a PM, we can continue there... -
Absolutely. I've no problem tossing a few slots into fly to make it go faster (that's kind of what fly speed enhancements are for...). It's needing to take another two powers from the pool in order for flight to reach its full potential. That's the big problem to me and why the nonsensical "must be a balance" speeches don't work. I don't need to take any additional powers in the other travel pools in order for them to reach their limit. You have to with the flight pool. That's not entirely true...Long Range Teleport requires at least 2 other TP power... And I think we've settled on SS needs some love...so feels like it's kinda balanced already...To be clear, I wasn't advocated earlier that you can enhance Fly to Afterburner speeds, just that you could enhance it beyond it's existing speed cap...

Where "many" actually translates to "nearly zero". Most retirees do not have investments to draw on. Even those who do, it's typically through a 401(k) plan or an IRA, which do not have the sort of returns you're implying. ... Also, NCSoft is a Korean company. I'm pretty sure most, perhaps all, of their investors are Korean, or at least, "not American" and so, not on Social Security in any amount. I implied nothing about the quality of returns Pax...and I really would appreciate it if you would take my words at face value. It seems to be a growing issue on these boards. 50% of Americans, approximately, have some kind of equity investment - all pensions, annuities, most 401K's, and many IRA's all hold corporate equities...So if Grandpa is living on a pension...thank Big Corp, if you are invested in a 401K, that's Big Corp. So many, perhaps not a majority, but it's certainly within the realm of near 50/50 of American's who are living on anything beyond a 2nd job or Soc. Sec., are getting returns through corporate equities... I will say that I am 47, and mostly retired thanks to equity investments and I was flat broke at age 25... And NCSoft was mentioned specifically about how there would likely be no CoH if they hadn't managed and then taken over the game from Cryptic. Not because I would ever recommend it as an investment opportunity. However, I have heard rumors that even Koreans like to retire when they get old... I'm an apologist for global economics, which absolutely, 100%, has need of large corporations. I am not an apologist for any specific company or their actions...If you read my posts after the one you quoted, you'll see that... -

Sure it’s an attainable goal, but in the 6 years this was a secret server, all we got was the one TF. Not just in Kallista, but in the entire game (content wise). What would be more exciting would be if we can start writing new content. Perhaps even help develop new maps, new contacts, and maybe new enemies. -

What does World of Warcraft do better than Cox?
justicebeliever replied to Hobbes1266's topic in General Discussion
Just a comment: Only 34% of corporate equity is owned by households. Of that 34%, the wealthiest percentiles (90-99.9% of wealth) own 90% of corporate equity that is owned by households. People who rely on SS are in the bottom 50% of wealth and own almost no corporate equity. The 50-90 percentile ownership has dropped by over half since 1989 and continues to drop. Source please? I'm not doubting the statement, but corporate equities could be defined a few different ways. Direct equity ownership is probably right where you are at. But what about indirect, like an annuity, or pension plan? 45% people have a 401K account for retirement, and perhaps many of those shift to bonds at retirement, but not sure if they are being counted either... Regardless, my point is that when the market doesn't gain as much as is expected, and stock prices drop, millionaire/billionaire retirees are no doubt financially impacted the most, but practically, it's all the people who are living on something beyond Soc Sec that can find any kind of an enjoyable retirement permanently destroyed. I want to be clear - I am for Big Corp, it's a reality in this modern, global age. How they are regulated and taxed is where I'll keep quiet... And remember, many start up businesses (not small businesses that serve just a local community), but start ups that want to provide products that lots and lots of people need are hoping more often than not to either go( public one day and put on the big corp pants, or to be bought out by a big corp. Take Big Corp out of the picture and a lot of those startups won't start up...(No Facebook, Twitter, Uber, Lyft, etc) -

That cranky Uncle gives very few reasons to want him in the family... I totally agree Abraxus, there are a lot of reasons to dislike how Big Corp does business, but there are a lot of reasons to still want them around. I won't go any further, or I'll step into the RL politics of the matter, but you aren't wrong... -
Well, Paragon Wiki is staying static since the game is "officially" dead. With all the new servers popping up, and the major differences between SCoRE code and i24 code, and then individual server differences, there really is no way PW can service the "resurgence" community. If we want a Wiki that's appropriate for Homecoming, then "we" (the players, not the Devs) need to start our own. Decision #1 would be - do we create copied pages for EVERYTHING, or do we just create pages for things that are changed, and like to PW on those pages for the elements that haven't changed. Like Echo: Faultline took several (not all badges) from Faultline, and the Dev's created more badges in Faultline to replace them. So we'd need 2 pages, one for Faultline and one for Echo, and then (I suggest), link to the original page, but add the additional/changed badges on the page as well. It's a shame, because PW is SO AWESOME...

They should have a board in the forums for wishful thinking you'd like to see in the game...somekind of a suggestions forum. Probably wishful thinking on my part... :P OEM, I'm just being silly...I'm not trying to make fun of anyone...
