Incentivize playing a villian
justicebeliever replied to krishmero's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
We aren’t going to get a “massive” anything. I don’t disagree that’s required to gain significant traction. But since it’s not an option, we have to make do with the tools we have. The biggest reason forum posters say they avoid redside is a lack of people to team with. Getting more of those people together will help with some small part of that. A forum board would also help. Designating a specific server as a unofficial Rogue Island server would help. So I’m not for just bonus XP (and in fact I am a die hard Hero forever). But what do you have to lose? How would it harm you? -

I’m really unclear why we feel the need to call out someone for playing the game with or without keybinds. How is it really going to hurt a team? Any PUG worried that much about execution isn’t a group I would want to play on. And let’s not assume we understand the various conditions/issues/circumstances that another poster is dealing with. I call BS on that. My kiddo has mastered the mighty speed of 5 words a minute. But he knows how to click all over. Would you really kick him from your team? And he’s a kid - I can’t imagine the various circumstances that might make someone struggle with typing or mouse dexterity. Arthritis? Keybinds are great - I love them. Macro’s too, and we should totally share our best practices, and we should totally not judge others for not using them.

The patch this last Thursday had something to do with LFG I thought...the issues seems to have really spiked since then...

So true, for so many things...Except the Live Dev’s totally nerfed the cowbells...

The issue is that there's two conflicting playstyles at work. The Tanker/Brute wants mobs in melee range to buff their defence - fair enough. Thing is the nrg/nrg Blaster wants those same mobs far away. It's why I'd never use the KB > KD IO in an squishy ranged build. When that melee mob stands up I want him to be halfway across the room not standing next to me already in melee range. Yes, uncontrolled knockback is bad. Yes, there are situations where a Blaster should take that extra time to set up their shot. But it's not every situation, and in casual PUGing the team does not exist solely to act as the tank's pets. Where's the fun in that, for anyone other than the tank? Again, uncontrolled knockback is bad, but so are melees who throw fits because they had to take three extra steps to punch something. Agreed - QFT If the team is taking a dirt nap because of uncontrolled KB, that’s bad. If the PUG is having to spend a few extra seconds to wrap up a room, but is otherwise unharmed? It’s not really a reason to start critiquing other people... -
Incentivize playing a villian
justicebeliever replied to krishmero's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
So let's go over it: Sidelocking characters would require a bunch of work to set up thanks to the current alignment system. We'd have to develop a way to lock them out of receiving tip missions or benefitting from them, then add a Null the Gull "Do not interact" flag. Why do we need to lock anyone in or out? Will some people abuse or exploit it? Sure...so what? That happens today, and it's temporary We need a way for people who want to do villain content to opt out...I was thinking you'd just modify the XP Booster to do the Xtra XP for redside, but again - why does it matter if they do redside content with their Incarnate Main? I would assume most people would leave the second that the XP boost is over...And we can handle another thread...We handle a lot of threads...It's like McDonalds...Homecoming, over 6000 threads served and counting... That's a very simplistic view of incentives. Ever used a coupon? That's an incentive...In fact most restaurant coupons fail to make any significant change in long term dining habits, most people use the coupon and then never go back...Except for the small percentage of people who use it and continue coming back. And that's what restaurateurs are counting on. 90% of advertising is producing incentives for you to try things...that's all this is, a gimmick...and it won't change most people habits long term...it only needs to change a few... -
Possible to crowd source new textures and items?
justicebeliever replied to ShardWarrior's topic in Base Construction
Better to have textured and lost, than to have never textured at all... It’s possible those are problems...but we should find out before assuming that. There needs to be some sort of change control, regardless, but I'm hopeful more and more of this becomes crowd sourced... -
Incentivize playing a villian
justicebeliever replied to krishmero's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
That seems like an awesome, but highly untenable solution. We should probably focus on possibilities that are more realistic. I think a week or two of XP could work. If we get 500 players to switch for a week or two, and only 10% keep their alts their, that's a 10% increase in the current population. What do we have to lose? -
There is some unnecessary redunancy is this macro - you don't really need both commands. Also, it's powexec, not powerexec Try this: /macro EQK powexec_location target Earthquake

Can you copy/paste exactly what you are typing that’s giving you the error?

I just always figured the shining stars were the annoying 2nd stringers and they just bumble around their base, running up to you and then running away. Like they know they are 2nd stringers and it just makes them really, really nervous... ;) Seriously, they are annoying and it would be great if they were fixed

I couldn't come up with a 1 button solution... Best I could do was /Macro [Name] "petselectname [[bruiser]]$$powexec_location target Noxious Gas" where [Name] is the name that'll appear on the Macro button, and [[bruiser]] is the name of your bruiser (if you have a custom name, use the custom name, if not, Bruiser is fine" You have to press the button twice (rapid succession is fine) to get it to both select the Bruiser and fire Noxious Gas... You can also do it as a bind /Bind [Key] "petselectname [[bruiser]]$$powexec_location target Noxious Gas", where [key] is any key on the keyboard you choose...same deal though - rapid succession

For those who don't play Redside - why not?

Got it - there is nothing that redside offers that is as compelling as blue side. Thanks for the response good sir! -
I am definitely a +1 on this.

Isn't Paragon a crappy rundown high crime era with armed neo-nazis and demon cultists on the streets in the open and something like half of the zones being uninhabitable wastelands full of monsters and gangsters? I think that's very unfair...Have you spent anytime in Paragon City lately...There is a lovely park in the center (Perez Park), there are some nice condominiums in Eastgate (though I've heard they have a few sinkholes caused by trolls blowing up caves), there is Overbrook which is lovely (minus the occasional earthquake), Baumtown skyscrapers are quite tall (and resting on the ground horizontally), and besides the occasionally complaint of a haunting, Astoria is love to own a home in. The citizens are very friendly, calling out what a great job I do (except when they are running down the street). Occasionally, I even see 2 or 3 Hellions, or Skulls, or Outcasts, trying to return a purse or briefcase to a nice citizen who must have dropped it. Its beautiful...haven't you read the lovely motto that the chamber of commerce came up with. I got it in this email here - "Help...we are being held by a group of living plant monsters" You really aren't giving it a fair shake... -

justicebeliever replied to Legree's topic in General Discussion
I'm not getting this Solarverse...There are tons of reasons for someone to play as a villain - want to be a villain, different content, different zones, etc. I get that you want to play Villain AT's (like a brute). And before, you could only play them on CoV and now you can do either side...So why pick Hero over Villain still? To be clear, I am not criticizing, just curious...what do you NOT like about redside that causes you to not start a Brute there anymore... -

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying...I'm see any "intractable" positions here, at least not in the sense of "you are wrong, and I am right". Please clarify? (And I'm not asking you to tie it further to politics, more to understand what you are seeing that's negative in this thread). -
It's all back up now...

I'm the same Pax...but sadly I've found, that most other participants who go round 1 with me in an Internet forum, will likely go the whole 10...So I often look back and say to myself, "Why didn't I just let it go 1 post sooner".

Letting your kid visit Paragon City.
justicebeliever replied to Generator's topic in General Discussion
Better idea: Back before Sunset, I was part of a lite-RP supergroup whose theme was "teen superheroes": Young Paragons. The characters, not the players, but ... that's still not a shabby idea: a supergroup for younger players, and their parents/guardians/etc. For my kiddo, I'm not keen on either idea... If he was "hypothetically" less than 10, I really wouldn't want him sending chats yet to anyone...He has no need to, and I don't want to encourage him to reach out to strangers on the web yet... And "if" he really, really, really wanted to build a SG base he would be crushed to leave our little SG. I'm not knocking the intent of the ideas...just for my parenting style, it would be a no-go... I'd love to team with someone else's parent/kiddo combo though...that sounds like fun. So if there was a channel for parents who are currently playing with their kids, I'd be down for me joining it and we could share when we are on with our kiddos and team up...Thoughts? -
