  1. Like most of your ideas, I like this a lot. My thought process was less centered on game mechanics than having the ability to enable new character concepts not currently available due to AT restrictions. I know mechanics matter, but creating those are not my strong suit. As with all my suggestions on this thread, it was with the assumption that some beautiful genius would find a way to build mechanics that make the game fun. But again I like what you suggested.
  2. I really like the suggestion in this thread: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,5704.0.html +1 on that thread if you like it too
  3. Does this help? https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,5099.msg40730.html#msg40730
  4. I'm a total nerd sorry. Maybe a mostly nerd. A total nerd would have included citations... :) “Research Paper Writing Nuances by Best Research Nerds”, Nerdify, 25 Feb 2019, https://medium.com/@nerdify/research-paper-writing-nuances-by-nerds-f591a938b280
  5. I've used it several times now...You are very quotable RussHood!
  6. I originally thought this post was going to be more like Brewster's Millions, and you give me 100M influence and if I can spend it all in a week and having nothing to show for it, I'd get the whole 10 Billion. Guess I have to go back and earn Inf the old-fashioned way...on the Market!
  7. No one likes awkward chunks...
  8. CO has that. Doesn't really work. A guy can wish though can't he? Just because Jack and Cryptic couldn't figure it out either time doesn't mean some new corporate overlord couldn't come up with a solution...But I agree that without balance, it doesn't work...
  9. I don't necessarily agree with "how" you've approached posting here, but I agree with the idea that if you really want KB, you should have KB. KB is fantastic for soloing, and if you are squishie, then keeping enemies on the ground, far away, and struggling to use their attacks is way better than having them inside melee range pummeling you. You probably, as a courtesy, adjust your use KB on a team to be accommodating, but I love KB in powers, and to date, have not had any complaints about how I use them.
  10. You are right (as always) Shinobu. However I haven't heard talk about the game being "too hard" in...a really long time...Even the last time I heard it was during ED and GDN in Issue 5/6. And even then the outcry wasn't that the game wasn't too hard, just not as easy. And despite the outcry that it would absolutely ruin the game, it still persists, against all odds today. So I don't think we are at risk with the game becoming impossibly hard. That's what the difficulty slider is for... It is exactly like playing spider solitaire - you gravitate toward the setting that gives you just enough challenge to win. There is a reason that people who can win on 2 suits don't play 1 suit - it's not challenging, it's too easy, and therefore it's not fun.
  11. I really don't think that's true at all because even if you take the game to be a pure power fantasy (whatever that means, but it's is definitely part of the game), you feel stronger crushing on +4x8 than you do on -1/x8. I think it's pretty obvious that crushing +4x8 endgame content makes you feel stronger than going into Atlas with the same character and street sweeping level 1 hellions. I think your answer speaks to Coyote's point quite well however (I know tone is lost on the Internet, so please know I am not being sarcastic, nor condescending). If your fun was just wanting to feel powerful, than you do what every power hungry person does, and conquer the weaker around you. You set the game to -1/x8 and blast away. You go wipe out Hellions in AP by the dozens in a single blast. If your fun is wanting to feel strong by beating a challenge, then the game needs to have mechanics in place to challenge you. Fighting +4 or soloing AV's is fun because it's so damn hard (or should be), and it's the mechanics that make that so. I think most people mistake powerful for challenged, and they really want challenged...
  12. huh? There's thousands using CoX without any issues, bro To be fair, tens of thousands...
  13. I know the last patch made some changes to LFG...I saw a bunch of issues on Discord this morning that are similar to this as well...
  14. I think that HC is trying to stay out of NCSoft's crosshairs. And one BIG way to do that is to run as lean as possible so there is no chance of it being perceived as profitable...So "scraping by" month to month is pretty lean. And HC is not a non-profit yet...
  15. Your entire argument is based on a single premise, and it is a fallacy to assume that your premise is reality rather than just opinion. Not everyone thinks that this game IS just a power fantasy... consider that players dial up the difficulty as high as it will go. If all they wanted was to smash mobs like superheroes beating up gun-toting mobsters, they would run it at -1/x8 to have more bodies falling to the floor, faster. Psychological tests show, actually, that tasks that have no difficulty and no challenge, soon become boring. This is why a lot of video games fail in fact. Once the challenge is conquered, people become bored and leave. And then people will leave the game...One of the great strengths about CoH is that it's design is still relatively unchanged (game mechanics-wise) since Issue 0, and despite graphics that show their age, and an antique Combat engine, is that people still love the game. Homecoming, by all accounts, should not be this big...Change those core principles that have kept people here for literally decades, and we risk losing the MM in the MMORPG.
  16. This is totally stream of consciousness at this point - but for a sequel - 1.) Move away from AT's and let people choose whatever powers, BUT with some balancing effect (IDK what that would look like) 2.) More "realms" - Atlantis, other planets, another city 3.) Expand on the story - Midnighters exploring a magic dimension, Regulators really cleaning up the streets in other cities (so much so that it really looks safer when the missions are done), more Ouro storyarcs involving Lore from the game (Brass Monday, WWII, Discovery of the Rikti, etc), more Historical missions like Cimerora 4.) Become part of the Freedom Phalanx (maybe a "Freedom Phalanx Unlimited" so there is room for more than 8) 5.) Archfoe's and Sidekick's 6.) Updated Combat Engine & Graphics 7.) Create your own origin mission... 8.) Vehicles 9.) With so many heroes, maybe it's time for a national anti-hero sentiment that everyone is fighting 10.) Like EggKooKoo said - web/mobile tools - Mobile Heroplanner/designer, Web Based Auctionhouse, etc 11.) And Hasten - it definitely has to have Hasten...
  17. What he said!
  18. I am in no way making fun of the issue or telling you it shouldn't be redressed, but what a potential cool character concept. "The Ancestor Blade, it can only be seen by me, but felt by all!!!"
  19. For me, the dream of CoH is being a hero, who helps people using superpowers. And in CoH, even at the early levels, I feel like I am saving the city over and over again. The NPC’s make me feel like I am already becoming a legend by level 20. I tried CoV when it first launched and won't be going back. First, I hate Arachnos maps that are so dark. I can barely navigate and I am constanly tabbing for enemies so I don't just walk right into them. I am made to feel like a stooge who is trying to get out of the stooge business. And I’m just uncomfortable “hurting” innocent people. I was part of that other suggestion thread and I am all for people playing redside, but for me, unless there was a big event, I won’t be going back, and even then, I wouldn't stay. I picked morality...
  20. You are giving Hasten no respec. You are Perma Haten it... Ok, that's cool. Didn't mean to hurt Hasten's feelings...
  21. It probably would be this way for the majority of heroes with secret ID's who aren't kings of ancient underwater realms, or island princesses, or billionaires, or able to crush coal into perfect diamonds. I think that's one of the reasons Spider-man is so popular. He has to try to find the balance between work, life, and superheroics wherever/however he can. “Bills Paid? Yes” “Term Paper...done” “Uploaded photos to Daily Bugle.” “I Called Betty back...okay time to web-sling.”
  22. Burnt Toast - I was just musing in another thread about the difficulties HC would have in getting legitimate non-profit status. But what if every month HC simply doubled their goal, and gave the amount they don’t need to charity? So if the operating expenses were $7K, they would keep the donations open until they raised $14K, and they would donate the other $7K to charity. This would solve two problems - how to define themselves as a non-profit, and give more people a chance to contribute. I said double the goal as a strawman, but it doesn’t have to be that high. And they could have some creative contest each month to have the playerbase determine the charity +1 for sparking those brain cells Burnt Toast.
  23. I think a lot of redside does do this already. So it’s not a problem of “I can’t find anyone to team with,” but more “I can’t find anyone to team with to do my (redside) content”
  24. +1 for the giggle. -1/2 for not using solar, which still rounds up to +1 inf
  25. This is a great tip. I’ve been using regularly since it was pointed out. +1 inf
