Is farming an imbalanced method of earning ingame rewards?
Without_Pause replied to macskull's topic in General Discussion
1. Can an economy which has inflation be healthy? Real life says yes. 2. Does CoH's economy swing toward such a high inflation to where it is being deemed "broken?" Case in point, if a build costs 500 million two years ago, does it cost a billion now? 2. Would a zero sum economy be healthier? If yes, then far more than just farming needs to be fixed. Players would only be able to generate at what they could spend elsewhere, ie market offers, etc. FYI, I made a new character. With zero farming and outside help at level 6 they had 8.9 million. I can see being at 20-30+ million at level 8 once things get sold. -
Win 10. Next week I am off and will try to get another 8 GB if RAM in as my laptop is only at 8 GB now. I have looked at seeing about using too many resources, but I tend to run it without anything else running. I haven't been dual boxing during the crashes and I use a separate laptop anyway. Normal gaming and certain maps can give my graphs issues. Not looking to buy a new PC, but my next one will definitely be better at handling CoH. It's odd that I had never seen the game crash and get the follow up screen like I have been getting since this issue started and I've played CoH for like 9 years. FYI, I crashed three times yesterday, so it has to be on my end.

So if water isnt good....what is great for soloing

/ea would work well with it. I went Fire/ea for my Sent. -
I had a level 50 Kin/sonic on live. They are fantastic.
-
The biggest con to Fire is how much better it is on a Corr.
-
I solo farmed from level 2 and have a farmer which can do +4/x8 and just helped finish off a second character. So yeah, it worked out well for me.

I saw one desired attunted IO at like 2-3 mill, and was like, "Yes please" and put myself down for 10. -
O.o. Mine has two AoEs. Granted on a stalker, SJ is just really a smooth set. It is giving Claws a run as my favorite melee set.

Three slotting for the main aspect in things has been the gold standard since ED happened. https://cityofheroes.fandom.com/wiki/Enhancement_Diversification

You don't need to slot two end redux in your toggles. Attacks should get one end redux. You also don't need two recharges in things. More so things without an end redux in them. You have way underslotted damage in your build. Fiery Embrace has always added damage to non-fire attacks. Even if you are just using the damage aura and Burn, that's more than enough. More so if you pick up Fire as your epic to get Fireball.

Why such terrible slotting? This is my common IO build. Again, I could do +2/x8. Image 1 Image 2

Ebil marketer or farmer? -
To be fair, it is a budget build. I even saw some basic changes in the build which would have made it better, but it would cost more.

The size of the bucket doesn't matter. My point is, what I did didn't mater. I pulled hundreds of salvage off of the market and could easily continue to do so with no real impact. Other long time players admit to there being a lower cost to building a character. Your point seems to be I say things wrong, which doesn't really support you being right, or the fact that your data can't really be shown and has to be kept super secret for reasons, which again, it doesn't mean you're right. Are builds easier to pimp out on HC as compared to live? If true, then maybe farming isn't the super terrible thing to worry about and lead to multiple threads on this forum. Also true with ebil marketers. One estimated some players could have in the range of 300 billion which was gotten by a heavy dose of using the market. Please tell me how faming is the issue if a stat like that is true? FYI, back on live I used crafting and selling common IOs as a way to build my income. I can't do that now as the market for them has bottomed out. That's real data I can point out and you can verify. Just like you can go on the market and still buy common salvage for 100 or even lower despite my efforts to pull as much as I could. -
Same guide I used. I didn't use sets until I hit 50.
-
FYI, Tough doesn't do much against fire based attacks, and it isn't in my build. I can currently dual box +4/x8.
-
On SOs? I need video as I'm calling BS. I say this as someone who solo PLed a Spines/fire to 50 and was doing +2/x8 with common level 25 IOs.
-
Currently using the SJ/ea build, and enjoying it a lot. Just kind of seeing what it can do now with IO sets slotted and working on getting everything to T4. Working on getting the IOs for a Elec/sd just to see how that feels although that is only currently level 27. If you ever get the urge to do other ATs, by all means do so. At least with melee ATs there is a bit of copy/paste.

I might still lean with /ea. You have two clicks. End game wise, blue bar issues should be easy enough to fix, so you are really likely just looking at the heal and that can either be equal or used more/less than Practiced Brawler in comparison to /sr. Case in point, +2/x3 with IOs and and some Incarnate stuff done. I think I looked at my end bar once just to see and it was healthy. I clicked on the heal once, and that could have been handled with a green. I'm still trying to figure out what diff setting I want for end game content. Even if I could do x8, I likely won't since there is a time/fun issue. Note, this is on a SJ/ea. I would lean on bigger mobs if I was Elec. I'm probably fine with x4 as I don't really play my stalkers to clear huge packs. I want to get in and out and move on asap. I might bump it to +3. Just depends on the mission.

That number is also irrelevant. My point was I could buy a horde of something, sell it elsewhere for profit, and yet, the market magically carries on. Again (gets out soapbox) THE LONGEST I HAD TO WAIT FOR A BID TO FULLFILL WAS ON LIVE. Time and time again people who are willing to dump hundreds of millions in terms of currency into their builds are fully admitting it being cheaper to pimp out a build on HC versus live, and yet, oh noes farming is doing harm to the game. The market prices are TOO DAMN HIGH! -
Changed things up so it might not be about being near a base. Game is crashing about once a day or so when using the market.

Missing my point. Anyone can do what I did, and the prices of that salvage isn't really going anywhere. The longest I had to wait for something on the market to get filled was on live. -

Forgive me then for I have bought as many of the common salvage types from the market at 100 per item as I could hold and sold them to a vendor for 250 as a way to generate currency for a new character. I'm not sure how the market could deal with my shenanigans considering there were over 10 million of said items even after I was done. -
Everything seems to cost too much influence

I don't mind revisiting something later on, but I find I tend not to. I had a list of 30 characters, and decided I didn't want to invest in all of them in terms of IOs, Incarnate, etc, so I picked 10 and got rid of them. I might trim more later on. I concede I took a long break, but once characters start to see 400-500 days of not being logged on, I'm okay with moving on. I strip them as well, and move onto things I want to actually play. And yes, this by default makes it easier for my other characters to become rich as 2-3 million is pretty easy to get transferred. One build I axed had two purple recipes I made sure to keep. -

Self found wouldn't work as well here since players can control mob size. This does remind me I never used that setting in PoE and yet I never traded with players. Limiting it to 500 million is comical. My latest build to be done was around that amount and had purples. I mean, "Oh noes, it took two days to fund a build versus one. Damn, I guess I won't farm."
