Hmmmmmm they won't be too different in mechanics or how they play. It will just take you a little longer to kill things. If you use more dmg procs instead of the -res procs, things will even out a bit more (solo at least).

By pre-alpha I assume you also mean pre-50 and given the build you posted and the elec secondary I also assume will be teaming for almost everything. Given these assumptions I would do the build below. You will be at the s/l/e and ranged defense softcap as long as one other person on your team has maneuvers (everyone should have maneuvers at like lvl 14, but they don't take it...the only exception being super reflexes, everyone else should just take it). I also did not take suppressive fire and proc it out because this being a pre-50 build based on a more support roll I figured you'd rather have tactics and survivability. That being said, I still focused on a proc'd out hail of bullets and getting a bunch of FF procs. The key thing is getting your ranged and s/l defense up pre 50 without any +5s. Anyway, here it is. I should have noted in my post that I was trying to follow his build roughly and maintain his power selections (thus the reason I posted a build with SS and SJ). Yes, Superior Brute's Fury is better in GFC. If I was to remake everything from scratch it would look like this. Now I still went pyre mastery over Mu because melt armor is a 16 target AOE debuff and weaken resolve is ST. Melt armor also lasts for 40 seconds and so I don't need to recast it (of course I wouldn't be able to anyway given the recharge). I feel that fire already has fantastic ST dmg and so I would rather get more AOE. It also lets you do this AOE combo that I really enjoy Build Up>Melt Armor>Shield Charge>Fireball>Greater Fire Circle. It needs to be executed very quickly, but it allows you to get the full Build Up+Gaussian Proc for all three damaging powers, with fireball and GFC hitting with -49.75% res to everything (remember that damage is calculated at activation and not at completion of the cast). It would also, be quite simple to get both weaken resolve and melt armor (just switch out combat jumping and put the +5 LOTG recharge into grant cover). If you wanted, you could switch out one with shield for tactics to get shield charge and melt armor to the acc cap against +3s, but they are at 91.87% acc atm (the cap is 95%) so I am ok with that in exchange for the oh shit button. While on a team tactics would be better though. I should also not that the two preventative medicine IOs in health are the most expendable in the build, feel free to move them around as you see fit. You could put one each in true grit and tough for example to get a lot more AOE defense. I strongly encourage you to try out the way I have shield charge setup above with the FF proc, 2 damage procs, and the -res proc. It allows it to do much more damage and gives you the -20% res proc for your follow up. I believe it is better compared to how you have it setup in your build. I like to take grant cover because it gives everyone a 10%+ defense bonus to all in a fifteen radius (the radius of a fireball), and while that radius is not great, its decent while teaming as long as the squishies know how it works. The other big reason why I take it is for the defense debuff resistance. With Grant Cover, Active Defenses, and Battle Agility this puts our defense debuff resistance to 52.9%. This allows you to fight Cimoreans or other defense debuff enemies with relative ease as you are mostly protected from a defense debuff cascade death. I also don't think that GFS is that great of a power, it is only marginally better than fire sword in DPA/DPS and so I typically skip it. In the build you posted your ST attack chain is presumably Cremate>Incinerate>GFS, at fury 70 (which you had set) this combo equates to 202.85 dps (302+374.2+439.5=1115.7/5.5 second cast time). I took the proc out of cremate and +5'd all the purples and all the kinetic combat IOs in order to give you the most dps, except for the proc, I didn't think we should include that as the proc has a pretty low chance. Now if we simply 5 slot fire sword with crushing impact in your build we'll use it for a Cremate>Incinerate>Fire Sword ST chain and we get 201.46 dps (302+374.2+230.4=906.6/4.5 second cast time. So, we get 1.45 ST dps by using greater fire sword, completely not worth the power choice in my opinion. Now there is something to be said for using one attack to finish off the mob instead of needing to use two, but I'd rather have all the quick attacks and another power choice. Here is how I modified your build for the ST DPS calculations: Finally, if we want to focus more on personal AOE damage, of course Mu is better because it gives us an extra AoE attack in electric fences, while ball lightning is only slightly worse than fireball. So, if we take my build above and go Mu instead and we take weaken resolve lets see what we can do. We get very good personal AoE potential with Mu mastery and better ST DPS with weaken resolve and we lose some recharge and some AoE defense. Hasten would still be perma because of the FF proc in shield charge. I still like melt armor for teaming, but if you wanted to solo this is almost certainly better. P.S. @Frostweaver Thanks for commenting, I likely never would have looked at this again.

It's a large damage increase to every power you have when using fire ammo. The extra damage DoTs increase with damage buffs and you have a higher cap as a corruptor so team damage buffs are more useful on you than a defender. It also gives you some versatility in supporting your team by switching to different ammo types. You should absolutely take it and I would also take empty clips for an extra chance to get the force feedback proc.

1. Yes 2. 6 for a proc, but its up to you. 3. I just checked and you get more regen slot for slot by adding into health. I'd say either one on this, its up to you. Typically I err on the side of the resistance as it keeps me in the fight longer. 4. No, you want a lot of procs in there. 5. With sopftcapped defenses, kind of. At +4x8 you will likely still need to heal somehow (inspirations?) 6. SD is a positional set and so it mainly buffs melee, range, and AOE defense. It's much easier to build to the 45% softcap in melee and range then call it a day. Your resistance is not great, but you should be able to handle most content if you just bring some greens with you because of your excellent defenses. 7. I'll post what I think would woirk better below. 8. I'd go rebirth yeah. Looking for a Traps/AR build with with BASIC SO enhancements.
Darkir replied to vtshadow314's topic in Defender
I am not at all sure of this, but you could try this. I tried to keep everything cheap endurance-wise, while getting the leadership powers. Tactics is a huge boon when it comes to teaming in a low level party. Anyway, feel free to change anything you want, especially the power order as I assume you'll want super speed sooner. The reason you would go corruptor is because there is already so much inherent defense in time that a corruptor can get to the softcap reasonably easily while still proccing attacks. You also get a higher dmg cap and higher base dmg, so that dmg buffs help you more even when considering the extra percentages that those buffs would be on a defender (looking at you soul drain). Like so: Note: Yes, I could easily get to the melee softcap or more, but you'll have time's juncture on all the time which will more than make up for the 5% loss.
-
It isn't up anywhere, as I am not finishing messing around with it and seeing what works best. I do prefer the defender version. The corruptor version needs work as it has more endurance issues and dark consumption only goes so far to address them. The theft of essence proc in dehydrate for the corruptor rarely occurs, but its there for the added end every once in awhile, but at least lightning storm is a net positive +4 endurance every time you cast it. The defender will actually outdps the corruptor solo as well (except for scourging) due to the differences in soul drain, freezing rain, assault, and vigilance. The defender will run into the damage cap though and so teaming is likely better on the corruptor, but then you have to take into account the extra 5% -res from freezing rain. Even so, I think the corruptor will do better on a team because scourge and more dmg buffs from teammates will put it over the top, but its a toss up in my head. Defender: Corruptor:

Stalker's get the best version of SM, but they get a much worse version of bio (which pairs best with SM imo). My SM/Bio brute does extremely well with the -res aura and the extra toxic on attacks. Most SM DoT effects work with fury. That being said, I also love my SM/SD stalker.
-
Essentially, I prefer the -res procs if teaming and the dmg procs if soloing on defenders (much like peacemoon said).

Most useful Defender build for current fast endgame?
Darkir replied to Substaticman's topic in Defender
This is at least 3 months out though, if not 6. I see no reason not to build for procs now and worry about a new build later. -
The original devs gave dark miasma to corruptors in 2005 in issue 6. This lasted until all the way to sunset in 2012, even after going rogue where the devs knew that heroes and villains would be teaming together. I never saw any plans from the original devs to change this, did I miss it? If not this is a straight nerf from the homecoming devs, not a bug fix.

I would do something like this. I tried to use mostly lvl 50 basic IOs as I assume people are poor until 50. I did slot in the endurance helping IOs in health and stamina (let me know if you need money for those). I would also slot the LoTGs absolutely last. If money is not a problem I will make a completely different build for her. I have some health problems too and so I hope she is able to make it out of the land of the unwell soon. Go mace mastery and get scorpion shield. This is what works best with rune of protection typically on a kinetics.

If you want a defender that can thrive in melee (something similar to a melee version of a defender) and use a radiation set, I would highly recommend time/rad. Time manipulation gives you time's juncture to debuff everyone's tohit in melee range and then buffs your own defense with farsight. This combination is very very strong and if that isn't enough you can take distortion field for even more damage mitigation, but that is an end heavy power. Radiation blast also works very well in melee due to its two strong PBAoEs (irradiate and atomic blast) and a great targeted AoE in neutron bomb. I don't really like radiation emission because all of its good toggle debuffs have some long cast times and you need to recast them every fight. To cast both every fight it takes 4.6 arcana time seconds before you start doing damage and they also have a significant end drain to them. You get AM to help with the end drain (and a nice recharge boost too), but nothing can stop that 4.6 second cast time you need to do before every fight. The two debuffs are great however, and probably worth it, but I'd just rather play something else that gives similar bonuses for less setup, like time. Time's juncture is a toggle that is always on around you and it lowers damage and tothit. Then you have slowed response which is a great AoE -30% res debuff that takes 2.27 seconds to cast and it has a great 25 radius, so it will hit most things and they will stay debuffed regardless of where they or other mobs move (it will still fall off after 30 seconds though). Now, to be fair, enervating field only has a 1.5 second cast time, but I just find it less effective overall because if the mob moves or other mobs move it stops working and if you are only casting enervating field before every fight you lose all the -tohit from the other debuff. The last reason why I would go radiation blast is that it has -def inherent to its set. This will allow you to hit everything more easily, but more importantly it allows you to put in a lot of -20% res achilles procs. With that proc in irradiate, neutron bomb, and atomic blast I think you could likely keep it up on a whole group of mobs, vastly increasing the amount of damage you do to everything. With slowed response, achilles proc, and the gladiator you could likely keep -70% res on everyone around you. That's fantastic....I may need to try this...maybe on a corruptor....I'll be in mids. Anyway, if you want a meleeish defender, I would absolutely advise you to go time/rad. You'll be great in melee, but you won't necessarily need to be there to stay effective. I think something like this build would work well for a defender, but I'm sure it could be improved: Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.7.2.10 https://github.com/Crytilis/mids-reborn-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! You want repel, you want siphon speed, you want FF procs, and you absolutely want more recharge. You don't need 4 ST attacks, you don't need hover above enemies as you will kill them faster without doing so, and you don't need tidal forces as fulcrum shift is enough (yes, more tidal power will lead to more base dmg on geyser but more recharge will lead to faster clear times). You are a farmer, therefore the only thing that matters is solo clear speed and the ability to clear in a team (I'm guessing only one or two partners in the current state of the game and not a dedicated farm group, as with that you would all have maneuvers and then not build for softcap solo [in favor of procs]). Anyway, there are some more efficient ways of getting to fire def/res cap, that you may have missed while building. This is what I recommend. I am sure there are ways that it could be further maximized, but I do not have access to my fire/kin/flame farming builds atm, as I am not at home, but I think someone could probably reach at least 180%-200% global recharge while maintaining the caps. P.S. Rereading my own post here, I am struck by an overall arrogant, pedantic voice that I did not wish to convey. I have a lot of experience on my fire/kin/flame farmer (Darkir0. I have gone through 12 different builds for the character in order to maximize it to its absolute potential. I have played around with my fire/kin corruptor builds far more than any other character I have ever had. Please forgive the arrogant way that the above paragraph may come off. I simply wish to give some insight into some more efficient ways you may build your character for fire farming. Edit: Hold on, my mids is messed up a little after I updated and the build I made just now does not have the right numbers. Edit 2: OK, I think I have it sorted. Here is the build I recommend for kin/ice who wants to be positionally softcapped. You may get more out of a s/l/ranged build with scorpion shield and rune of protection because of the the mez protection. Mez protection can be very nice and useful if you want to solo at +4x8, but with this build you will still only have a 5% chance to get hit by any mez protection. I'll look into that after this post. You need to do the villain patron power pool arc. Edit: Forgot to put "arc," on the end of my sentence.

Well, it shouldn't be cheaper. I'm pretty sure that all the io recipes are the same from 1-50, this was a change homecoming made for ease of use. I'm also pretty sure that buying it attuned or not, is the same io and price. The reason to buy non-attuned ios is to +5 them. The reason to buy a lvl 20 io is to +5 it and keep the set bonuses up to lvl 15 exemplared. While we are on the subject though, never buy attuned purple IOs, they never stop giving their bonuses and so there is no reason to attune them and negate their ability to be +5'd. The only reason to not +5 purple IOs, beyond money, is to not increase +recharge and therefore not mess with proc chances.
-
Get the attuned versions, that way you can slot them and they level with you. Who procs affect is based on the power and the power. For lifegiving spores, they affect anyone (including you) in the area of effect most of the time. The preventive medicine proc works differently, if you slot it in any power it will only affect yourself and the proc is based on your own current hp and has nothing to do with if or when you use the power.
-
Overgrowth gives a hefty endurance usage buff and so unless you plan to exemplar past lvl 27 it shouldn't be much of an issue for your team. If you plan to exemplar lower than 27, put the panacea proc in it.
-
This and you have overgrowth so the endurance needs of the team should not be an issue. If this was a leveling or exemplar build, I would also put a panacea proc in it as then you get the healing and the endurance. I don't actually use life giving spores all that often, only when fighting an EB or AV. Most of the time it's just easier to cast overgrowth and move on.

Ah, ok. Well, wall of force will proc FF, but not at the rate of water burst (10 second recharge vs water burst's 16 second recharge). Shockwave has the same problem, it's 8 second recharge is not ideal for proccing FF either. Compare this to Water burst's 16 second recharge (it goes down to about 4 seconds) and geyser's 125 recharge (which you can get down to a little more or a little less than 30 seconds depending on recharge). So it will work to replace it to some extent, but not that well. Another problem is getting the same overall recharge and still getting to the def softcap without combat jumping/stealth/hover. Defense powers serve as a kind of double use in today's IO world, you get recharge and defense out of them (7.5% for LoTG or 5% for red fortune 5 slotted or both for 12.5%). So I would say shockwave and wall of force are poor FF proc replacements for water's options.
