  1. We draw closer to the date. It's almost time, my friends.
  2. DETAILS WHERE: City of Roleplay base [Code: ROLEPLAY-32140] WHEN: March 9th & March 10th WHAT: A RP-SG/VG recruitment fair / Roleplay "event" HOSTS: Shadeknight (@Shadeknight), Crystal Dragon So most of you might remember this event: The Recruitment Fair hosted by myself & the City of Roleplay Discord. I've decided to make a new thread for it to go over all the details & be used for every Fair going forward. This one to close the year will be our fifth one since we've started - a big milestone in my eyes. By the time we run our sixth we should have a base for it, but for now? We're going to be using the Wharf across two days. This means that each "side" gets a day dedicated to themselves. This is something we're trying for the fifth run to see if we can manage it for future fairs or not. Every fair from this one on will be trying / re-introducing things to find the perfect/close-to-perfect solution. This time we'll be more open to what sort of groups show up. The past couple of years we were heavily attached to the idea of superheroes & supervillains, but now? Now the doors are wide open! So long as a group fits with the day they can show up. DAY 1 A gathering of those that operate within the realms of heroics and lawfulness. Alternatively: Groups that operate within Paragon City or the surrounding areas. DAY 2 A coterie of the seedier side of the world. Alternatively: Those that operate within the area of the Rogue Isles. EVENT RULES Recruitment Ads should be posted in Broadcast. They should not be posted more than once every ten minutes. No group is to use a bot / ad-bot character when showing up. Dual boxing should be kept to a minimum if possible. Be respectful to all attendees and the hosts of the event. We're all here to enjoy the roleplay and make connections. Concerns should be brought privately to Shadeknight/Occult/whatevercharacteriamon
  3. Sort of? The way I see it; Unless I'm getting paid to do this (in some hypothetical) then ultimately development is at my whims within this question. That or at the whims, in HC's case, of the developers. Ergo, while suggestions and feedback can be considered? Ultimately, the power falls in the developer's hands and always should fall in their hands. It is their server primarily, and what they wish to design is what we can give input on when it reaches various stages of testing. Obviously there is some caveat to be had there - that some changes are taken back by way of our feedback. However, that is only by way of the good nature of the developers or the idea just not working out the way they desire. The same can be said of Rebirth, Cake, and The Other Server - where what is done is very much at the whims of their developers. My stance is that player feedback and suggestions should be heavily filtered. I need only point at Beanbag, the Non-Tester Screeching at the Defense Changes, and much else of the Open Beta over the course of previous pages. I only think ignoring is the answer in the case of those who want to fight tooth and nail (through whatever means) to express their entitlement. No naming names or anything of course. I do not believe that players know better than the developers is a way to summarize my stance. If people wish to believe this way then they can go make their own server - which is, I understand, a very nasty way of looking at things. However, I stand by it as I've never really believed we are owed anything just by playing or helping pay for server costs. I have a very strong distaste for entitlement and it has been STRONG on the forums over the years.
  4. Honestly, I would tell the Legacy Players that the game needs to change and be lite-transparent (open about that things will change, but not doing an open book about what changes are coming - so that no one can run with things as if they're promised) about it. If they don't like it then so be it, but early 2000s game design no longer holds up. If a change can be made to - even lightly - make the game better? So be it. Even if legacy content needs to change or be outright re-done from the ground up. There are other servers if they don't like it. Ideally, the game changes made under this wouldn't be too radical that it couldn't be recognized but sometimes it can't be helped. Balancing with the equation of nostalgia for legacy is just asking for trouble and headaches in my opinion. But this is why I'm no developer. I don't particularly care for ancient legacy being put on a pedestal as 'must not touch'. I think all content, legacy or not, is not immune to being modified or changed or even re-evaluated in grander ways.
  5. #1 is just all around a bad idea. Characters are strong enough as is and if you're having issues with builds with what slotting we do get? Ask for help. Otherwise: Skill Issue #2 is an okay idea, but that's all it is. It's okay.
  6. To answer the question of the topic's name; Unknown. Wind Control was not a finished powerset in the files. If it is done it will be done the HC way rather than copying another server.
  7. It's Troo, he makes shit up and hopes it sticks. Noble aspirations, but integrity more or less went out the window the moment this game died in 2012 - though you'll disagree with me there. Arguably the worst follow-up in my experience. Power Creep and the worries of such kind of don't work in my opinion - it's a superhero game with a scaling difficulty system (notoriety) + challenge settings (including custom ones made by HC) so things are meant to be skewered. Power Creep would be something I'd see being more valid if this wasn't City of Fire Blast & Cold Domination - these two sets dominate and clear all others in their area. Not sure about melee sets or armor sets but those ATs tend to have more sets that perform well vs that are below mediocre. Also you can't really prevent the devs from doing anything if they're dead set on a change. AR was a weird case of people coming out of the woodworks to defend the objectively worst power of the set. I'd say there's better examples of Reverted Changes, but the only ones I can think of power-wise was Eagle's Claw and Dark Consumption - both of which were going to get very minor changes in an earlier Page. But that was a case, IIRC, of them not being satisfied with the final product.
  8. Christ you are one salty kid at not having people agree with your idea unanimously. Sure, private stats might work ala the Monitors but I just don't think this game's stats tell people the right thing. City of Heroes isn't built for stats being the biggest deal outside of defense/resistances.
  9. What keeps me as a no is the 'finally, sensible people' style of responses rather than thinking people can, y'know, disagree with a suggestion. People are being sensible, but you just hate that not everyone is agreeing with the idea. Let's be completely honest; Stats after a Task Force would require a pop-up window or the current one (that displays deaths/times/certain settings) to be much bigger. A new pop-up window to display all the stats being asked for would require a way to track them. Combat logs? Sure that can work, but there's only so much displayed through that as I recall. Secondly, this game is old and does not have a challenging ceiling to get to. Its exceptionally easy to make builds in this game versus others, and the game isn't that hard. The most challenging content is the 4-star stuff at the moment - the other stuff being a mindless deathbowl (MSR) or a slightly coordinated jello fight (Hamidon) while only a handful of people are needed to competently complete iTrials. 4 Stars require good builds, sure, but they also require coordination to some degree greater than +4/x8 Council Radios. In comparison you tend to breeze through a task force in no time outside of the Shadow Shard ones, Synapse, and Citadel - which are more by way of tedium than anything. You'll not get good information out of those because you're either at-level, below level, or exemplar'd down. Which says nothing of value towards any theoretical buildcrafting you might be seeking to do. Ultimately, stats after a task force does nothing especially when none of them pre-Hard Modes are all that challenging. You don't get any good concrete information on what your build may be lacking. Doing the most damage doesn't say anything, doing the most healing (which can be done by anyone and most support sets have some general heal-type powers), and so on doesn't tell you anything. Especially when you consider the different passives (Blaster vs Corruptor vs Scrapper vs Brute - etc) playing a bit of a role in damage dealt. All in all, if you want a min-maxing buildcrafting type of game? There's plenty of others that'll fill that itch way way better than City of Heroes. Especially with a meta that won't change as often as other games. I look at Fire Blast & Cold Domination's superiority in terms of what their sets do.
  10. Still not a good idea or worth the unyielding amount of issues it'll cause.
  11. For four long years, the City of Roleplay discord has served as a go-to spot for all things roleplay and more. This Discord, over those years, has grown and changed to be what it is today. We have gone through different iterations of rules, channels, channel formats, and more - landing right where we are now. We've played home to thousands of discussions, emoji contests, and have even hosted a reoccurring RP Group Recruitment Fair. We don't plan to stop there any time soon either! We are, of course, looking for those who would be willing to step up to the plate in community events and more. We're looking to start making the rest of Year Four and forward better overall, but we'd love to see you join us for it. If you'd like to help us in creating events OR in running the Discord? Step on in and take a look at our Coordinator or Administrator roles. Otherwise come join a Discord of over 1600 people! https://discord.gg/7RnZ8VNRhE

  13. What a Thread. The HM ITF is plain smash/lethal with a sprinkle of energy/negative damage. The most annoying aspects being the Hostless and the Immunes fort'ing an EB and then TPIng away. The colossi and then the two-part fight against Romulus being the major hurdles. The HM ASF has a few nastier tricks up its sleeve. Smelters with Melt Armor that stacks, Rifters that do that SUCC, Brickernauts that self-destruct (1HKO), and some varying intensity of AV mechanics. It's a beefy thing to go against. Any of the AV fights barring Roller can end up being the make or break depending.
  14. This is just not it. It would kill any desire to team and reads like a horrible 'I like everyone suffering' suggestion. I'm sure that wasn't the intent, but that's how it comes off.
  15. The sentiments I posted back in 2020 remain the same now, I imagine - that none of the ELTF raid leaders (or other raid leaders across other activities/servers I might think) would really care for a plaque or shout out in some form. The other problem is that it opens a very big Pandora's Box given the only thing immortalized right now have been dead players. ..and even then I don't think we've had a new tribute/memorial NPC since HC launched?
  16. Hard data helps more than anything. Hard concrete visible comparisons.
  17. Homecoming is dead! It's dying! DOOOOOOM. For real though the data is pretty fucking cool.
  18. Sure, all the stuff around DawL can still affect others and it probably has. I'm just saying that there's not really been a treatment of Dacy or EB like they're garbage. Also caps-locking and calling people children doesn't tend to help in any capacity. Like, its understood that peopled jumped the gun, but trying to come in swinging when Dacy & EB can speak for themselves is...head-scratchy. Not only that but a GM has spoken on a couple occasions. It didn't really need the whole "I hope you're happy with yourself" because that's not going to go anywhere. It may also further inflame the thread. The contest, as far as I know, is done and over with. The feedback, though earlier in the thread, has been heard loud and clear (as far as I've read from Dacy/EB) - so yeah. Further jumping down people's throats for no real good reason isn't a good look. Could have left it at Crumpet's reply and let that be it.
  19. I just want to point out, @Aalya that the last page or 2 hasn't been leveled at Dacy or Easter. They heard loud and clear about how to do better next time, and to their credit, have acknowledged these things. They seem like they got good heads on their shoulders for bettering a contest that people enjoyed. It primarily stems from DawL being out of pocket in admitting trying to brigade the vote (more or less). None of that was leveled at the Reps. The rest is miscellaneous stuff about votes and alt accounts that doesn't really matter in the end. Though I will say popularity contests ala public polls tend to go sideways. Polls are bad, but that's just me.
