All tailors should be able to change height/gender
Rathulfr replied to Beef Ninja's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Unpopular opinion: I think the real problem is that we've become used to trainers being tailors, when they probably shouldn't have been made that way in the first place. I would prefer the old way of having to visit a tailor for costume changes, and a surgeon for body mods, as it was in retail. But then again, I'm just old fashioned that way. /em shakes fist in curmudgeonly fashion I do support the idea of adding the surgeon NPCs to bases though: if a base can have every other kind of NPC, I don't see why surgeons were exempted. I think that was just an oversight, one that could probably be remedied easily. -
It's got a nice beat and I can dance to it, so I give it an 8.

What should the aggro cap on Homecoming be?

I've found Fire/*, Ice/*, and Elec/* Sentinels to be the hardest hitting. I prefer Energy/* for thematic reasons, but its damage output is underwhelming.

How The Heck Do I Make Myself Make a Dominator?
Rathulfr replied to Clave Dark 5's topic in Dominator
I'm primarily a Blaster, and Grav/Energy is my favorite Dominator build, precisely because it plays like my Blasters. It's basically "a Blaster that throws forklifts". 😁 -
So my understanding of the proposal is this: Combine Opportunity buffs into a single bundle of goodies (+damage and +mitigation), to eliminate making a decision of which to trigger (instead of the current +damage or +mitigation). The single bundle of Opportunity goodies is delivered to targets by either the T1 or T2 (same bundle, non-stackable, no difference in potency), so that Sentinels don't have choose between T1 or T2: either/both get the job done. Opportunity can be applied to multiple targets for several seconds each, but it won't activate until the bar fills up. Opportunity is activated when the bar fills up, on any/every target that's been tagged by it (within the duration time). Any/all attacks (not just T1 or T2) fill up the bar over time, and Opportunity is triggered automatically (like Domination on /powexec_auto, without the need for an extra trigger button). Opportunity is no longer Inherent: it's linked to powers, instead. "Overwatch" is the new Inherent (always on) that applies a PBAoE solo/team buff in a 60 ft radius (or diameter?). If I understand this correctly, I kinda like it. The Sentinel would use either/both their T1 or T2 to "tag" targets with Opportunity, but would pump up the Opportunity meter with all of their attacks. When the meter is filled, *BOOM!* Opportunity lights up on all the tagged targets at once, making them vulnerable to the entire team. The more targets I can hit with my T1 or T2 the better, as that would mean more targets become vulnerable. And I think the Overwatch PBAoE team buff sounds interesting, although I think some of those numbers may need to be revised to make sure Sentinels aren't stepping on Corruptor/Defender toes.

For folks who are completely ignorant of MMORPGs, I usually say: "It's like World of Warcraft, except with super-heroes." Everybody has a general idea of what WoW is, so that's usually enough to get the conversation started. For folks who are familiar with MMORPGs, I usually say: "It's like WoW, except with super-heroes and you don't have to grind for gear." That's usually enough to kill the conversation. 😒

This reminds me of when my kids used to whine, "But Dad, all the other kids get to do it!" *sulks* [In before the lock!]

Hi, Naomi! Welcome home. 😉

Today's */Devices is so much more awesome than those of yesteryear. My retail main for 8 years was an Energy² Blaster, and he was the first character I re-created on HC in April, 2019. About a year later, and after a playful semi-insult on the forums ("Go away, blasterman"), I decided to try an Energy/Devices variation. MIND. BLOWN. It's my current favorite Blaster build. Welcome to the /Devices club!

Grasping for false hope could be considered by some to be an apt description of life itself, could it not? 😉 Yes, that's what I've been doing, except only once a quarter (not month). -

How many idle accounts and characters?
Rathulfr replied to Rathulfr's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
No, I have no interest in any specific data about accounts or characters: I just wanted some summary data of numbers for crude statistical purposes. For example, if there are 100K total accounts, and 75K of them are idle (last logon > 1 year), then there's a 75% chance that my name inquiry emails get no reply because the recipients are gone. Currently, there's a 100% certainty that I'm not able to create a character with a name reserved by any account, even those that are idle. This is because the current de facto name policy is "names are reserved forever". So if there's a particular name I'd like to use, I have to send a /tell, /gfriend, or in-game email to the global of the person who has reserved that name. There are a couple of names I'd like to get on a couple of shards, but they're reserved by other players. Since the fall of 2019, I've sent inquiries to those players every few months (about 3-4 months apart), to see if they're still active. I have received no replies at all. -

That's cool: we have differing opinions on that, then. I'm already looking over Cipher's previous posts to try to glean something meaningful, as directed by GM Impervium. -

Rathulfr replied to Rathulfr's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Based on my experiences thus far, my operating assumption is that I'm not getting replies because I'm sending to idle accounts, not because I'm being ignored by active players. From the reception I've received on this thread, I suspect that I'd definitely get some responses from active players if I they were getting my emails. -

So we have different opinions on player etiquette. I do not consider polite name inquires to be rude. And I would never send a second inquiry to someone who replied negatively. I wouldn't ever ask more than once, if I got a reply in the first place. That's the problem: without any replies, I don't know if I'm being purposely ignored. So my only recourse is to ask again. I hate to do so, which is why I generally wait 3-4 months between inquiries. If I knew for sure they're actively ignoring me, then I would stop bothering them. But there's no way to gauge that without any replies. That's what I'm trying to ascertain in the first place. If a statistically significant number of accounts are idle, then I can assume I'm not getting replies because the recipients are gone. But if a statistically significant number of accounts are active but not responding, then I can assume I'm being ignored. That's another reason for me to space my inquiries over longer periods of time. Of course, none of this would be necessary if the HC team were actively enforcing their announced name policy (or a variation of a name policy, for that matter). If they're not enforcing their announced name policy, then the de facto name policy is: "character names are reserved as long as the accounts that created them exist." Consequently, I have no recourse other than to periodically inquire other players about names they've reserved. Rude or not, it's the only choice offered to active players that seek to create characters with reserved names. I don't make the rules: I'm simply following them. -

Where else does one submit requests to the HC team other than Suggestions & Feedback? If I'm posting in the wrong forum, point me to the right one and then I'll gladly delete and start over there. My apologies if you perceived my response as a personal attack, as that was not my intention. -

How many idle accounts and characters?
Rathulfr replied to Rathulfr's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
The question is why they are not replying? Are they active players actively ignoring me, or are they idle players who don't ever logon to see my emails in the first place? I have received no replies at all (none, nada, zero) to about a half-dozen globals over the past year, every 3-4 months or so. You'd think that at least one of them would reply at least once with something. I'd be happy if they just replied with a string of expletives, because at least that would be a reply. If you got a polite email from another player, would you simply ignore it without a single reply (like, "No, and don't ask again")? Or do you get so many that you automatically ignore them, like @Dark Dove? This makes me wonder just what/how many names @Dark Dove has that are in such high demand. Are you a name camper, Dove? Even if you were, it wouldn't matter to me, because at least you're an active player (if you're on the forums, you're probably more active than most players). My beef isn't about active players camping names. My beef is about names reserved by idle accounts. -

That's what I'm trying to determine with the OP. If they're ignoring me, then I'll stop bothering them.
