I have been looking hard a tanker numbers and resist sets the last week. I ran a Dark/Dark Brute as a main for quite a while. It was strong and fun. Now that i have re thought my Resistance armor strategy I will be rebuilding it this way. More emphasis on Resist, Accuracy (which was very good already) and maturing at 50 rather than chasing cap pre 50. I am uploading this with Incarnates off, but turn them on and you will see what i mean. Focused Accuracy will be run situationally. i also plan to monitor all resistance values to check for debuffs and have rune of protection and a couple oranges on constant ready. Soul Drain is perma. I looked at this as a Tank (I have one at 50 already) and the build is sloppy easy on Resist and lighter on damage. To me Dark/Dark does not Tank well due to the perma unsuppressing stealth. I am a Huge Fan of the Auras on Dark. they do the Heavy lifting vs trash mobs that lack of defense leaves to be picked up. Below I will be posting the build I am moving from so you see the evolution of my ideas. Can uou find the lab in Port Oakes?

This is both a question about the power sets, synergy, and my crap design. I have never seriously played either set. I have a Rad/Fire Farmer. Hours in a tunnel hitting a couple powers prob doesnt count. I was pretty unhappy with this build until I realized it would not face a real challenge until 50+ enemies. The freedom to use the Alpha Slot made me less unhappy. With Resilient Core Paragon this build just scrapes over 100% Resistance on Smash/Lethal, and well over on Energy, Fire, Toxic. This prevents Resistance Debuff. Just cannot happen. 93% Negative, 91% Psi, and Why the F does a Resistance armor have a difficulty getting Res values up? Sheesh. Cold 75%. With Meltdown activated even cold goes over the top of 100. That power will prob be used more situationally for +dam then survival on this build. I think!?! What is the relationship between Rogue Isles and The US?
Snarky replied to huang3721's topic in General Discussion
Probably not. You could Nuke the Rogue Isles. yes. Somewhat easily. But no one in their right mind wants to light that candle. Not even for a small tactical strike. Not from my reading of the global military tea leaves. Because as soon as one person does it.....someone else feels like they could just eliminate a pesky small problem. (Won't spread, we promise!) You could carpet bomb the rogue Isles with Planes, rockets and missiles. This would do tremendous damage. But it would not do it quick enough to forestall 1) counter attacks 2) people/resources escaping 3) the cost of this in depletion of assets will not be cheap. The Rogue Isles will be beaten, but they will take some mean old shots while they fall You could invade the Rogue Isles with overwhelming conventional forces. Now, a significant percentage of your invading force will be turned into zombie super soldiers attacking you back, others implanted with Nictus, others possessed by Oranbegans, but sure you can invade. This is a laughably bad idea that will get worse if not done extremely fast and extremely complete. Like, the entire national military walking ashore in lockstep. Because the Rogue Isles does not fight fair. Or sanely. Or with anything approaching an attitude of they give a crap. That would be fun to watch. Seriously. You could try to make a political deal with the Rogue Isles and compartmentalize their chaos while trying to profit and extract some wins, personally, professionally, and possibly nationally. I think this is where most national leadership currently stands. Thats a minefield of its own type. But an unstoppable conventional invasion? What do you tell the parents of the division that got gated into the shadow shard? We'll find your boys? How about the battalion lost at the thorn tree in nerva. And I dont mean killed. They went into the tunnels and no one has seen them since. -
I've heard it said by much better players than me that a Corruptor is pretty much the best team AT. While you say damage is not a priority.... I would say "to you" You can debuff and CC to your heart's content in many high end gaming sessions and it does Jack and Squat. After years of running almost exclusively Brutes and a random Dom here and there I started running Blasters about a year ago. Then I slipped in one Corruptor. Every time I pull out that Corruptor I am amazed how well it goes. Not as much damage as the Blaster. But I stay near the team and apply some debuff and CC and team heal if things slide sideways. While being able to dish out punishing amounts of AoE with the rest of my time.

What is the relationship between Rogue Isles and The US?
Snarky replied to huang3721's topic in General Discussion
Some of the highest levels of the governments around the world have been infiltrated by agents and operators of various factions going back hundreds of years. You may find this hard to believe I know. You would think those who struggle to obtain and keep power in the political world were doing so out of altruism and love of mankind. I am so sorry to disillusion you. They are some greedy schmucks easily bribed, corrupted, and blackmailed. Now if you would like to accept an application to become a vigilante to do something about this situation that is understandable. If, after being a vigilante for a while you become frustrated at the slow progress you are making we in the Rogue Isles would be ever so happy to show you how some diligent extremism can really accelerate change! -
sounds fun. having failed to win the lottery again this week my schedule is pretty full however lol. would love to do that though. i usually game weeknights on Excelsior 5 pacific to 7 pacific. quite a bit more weekends.

Dark, built correctly (my opinion) has stealth (does not suppress) a stun aura and a fear aura. I also run it as Dark/Dark....so to hit debuffs. If it cannot see you, you do not need defense. If it is stunned....you do not need defense... If it is feared... Granted the fear and stun are for trash. But there is a lot of trash mobs with mean attacks. The stealth is awesome except edge cases like Rikti and Rularuu. Then that heal....fuggedaboutit. I just push resist accuracy and recharge in the Dark armors. Defense? No debuff resistance, my Defense is screwing with you long enough to kill you.
-
i chose it for the resist bonuses. also great set. but chasing +1 build priority. 90-100% resist on everything
-
I have yet to play Rad….but I have played a lot of Dark Armor. That heal will take you from nothing to FULL health. And on a decent recharge build you can stand on it because it is up extremely fast. I am away at work so I do not know how often Rad heal is up. I slot for set bonuses as I build with a weather eye to giving a power what it needs (esp frankenslotting). The purple set was chosen specifically for set bonuses. If, after laying in the initial build in MiDs, I discover I have easily achieved and exceeded my build goals I will then luxuriously start changing what sets I am using to achieve 2nd and 3rd build goals. That never happened here. So without seeing a better direction or understanding Rad better I am loathe to second guess my first choices
-
My resists were just not where I want them to be. I play a lot of invul. Giving up the defense aspect of the game (no inherent def, no def debuff res, not chasing softcaps) i expected to see better % but they are still in invul neighborhood mostly. At least with Dark you get tons of tricks to sly past hole in def (stealth, stun, fear, best heal in game) with Rad you get….??? Now I have not played it yet, but I am not impressed at the walkup. I was hoping for serviceable AoE and I know Energy has a good ST chain. I like tanky builds so that was the structure i was looking for. I fit procs on as they naturally occur in my set building. I do not chase them
-
I neer play Rad and have yet to really sit with an Energy since the great changes. I tried to make this build as a Brute, was unhappy with the numbers. Looks impressive as a Tank. My MiDs show the same AoE for Tank and Brute, but these power sets should have fatter AoE on the Tank, yes? I have never run Rad before. I was wondering what are the upsides/downsides. Looking for just a middle of the road build. Maybe a touch on the Tank side. (I run a lot of Invul) The numbers for resists seem hard to push and the thing looks (to me) like there are almost no passable powers, so a tight build.

Flaming armor on a fire stalker. Take one demon. Powers are stealth and fire. Sure it is on fire all the time. It mostly in an alternate sidestepped dimension space. Then it spots the chosen target. Boo! You’re dead!
-
definitely will/energy tanker then. invul is better with a big i/o build

PVP or where on the doll did the PvPers touch you
Snarky replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Open world PvP = bunch of PvP vets on one faction camping another factions area (usually a hub or starting zone). Exactly what every mmorpg needs right…, -
For me? I like the above post about healing and rez lol. And we pick archetype i suppose. Cars hurt. and i love the Tick! Since Super Strength is F-ed in game (who wants to be weak every two minutes?) I would go Willpower/Energy Melee Tank. With Fly. (I always take fly....)

i like the idea

PVP or where on the doll did the PvPers touch you
Snarky replied to The_Warpact's topic in General Discussion
Sigh. They knows me so well.... Honestly though I do not PvP. You can pick your reason from the menu above. None were 'wrong' A little backstory however. I started playing games back in the mists of time with sticks, dice, and cards. Watch the sticks. That's PvP! Then i graduated to boardgames. A few months ago someone invented computers and such. I enjoyed the dungeon crawlers etc. Not so much the Tekken and the like. I found that tactical and strategic understanding were worth garbage versus luck, knowing the exploits, and memorizing one arcane attack chain per game. When i found CoH some weeks ago I landed Redside on Liberty. (I thought it was crowded coming from console gaming.) PvP in CoH operates NOTHING like PvE. Read above paragraph for "luck, exploits, and knowing one attack chain" Add to this the fact that PvP badges are needed for accolades and a certain resentment set in. As I moved to busier servers achieving these badges on alts was a process in dodging griefers in PvP zones. Some are born to be an ass, snarky, and generally rude, some achieve being an ass, snarky, and generally rude and some have being an ass, snarky, and generally rude thrust upon them. I felt like being forced into PvP zones for PvE badges was a bit of a shit game decision from a Dev standpoint. ymmv You want to PvP. Join me in a nice game of chess. Or....we can play "sticks" -
Is there a way to make PBAoE's less loud?
Snarky replied to Stormwalker's topic in General Discussion
Yes. You will need to search around in a few places but sooner or later you probably will find one of the many volume sliders built into the software/hardware for your setup. -
I get that. I would still love a spreadsheet, but this makes sense. And it is a "edge" case. You need an attack set that is AoE heavy and an armor set with a damage aura and another AoE if possible (I am guessing Rad or Fire?) With Fire you are not the hardiest of armor sets, so giving up a little. I have never played Rad, so I cannot speak to it. Been stuck on Dark concepts....for a while. This also postulates a target rich environment of trash mobs. You may be doing a battle of a thousand cuts to 17 EBs and Bosses but I think I would prefer a Dark/Invul Brute there. Just take the things down and use AoE as it recharges.
-
I always like more options. I am a character creator. Give me limited options and there is only so much I can do. With CoHs many ATs, power options, and costume design choices there are many opportunities I wish there was MORE customization available. Fore with a secondary effect of -resist instead of +damage. Energy blast with a secondary effect of +damage instead of knockback. Etc. But the poor old games coding can probably only handle so much and the Devs time is a gift that is not infinite
