  1. I was just wondering, what's your all's favorite thing to focus on aside from leveling and maxing out your toons? I've run every story arc on the highest difficulty setting on Villain and Hero side. Done all the praet, night, first ward, DA arcs. A lot of these, most especially the non-hero ones have arcs worth enjoying the story and whatnot for. Solo'd almost every GM/AV/TF/Trial in the game Badged up to over 1000 Collected retarded amounts of merits/emps/incarn loot etc on my one main toon And now I run mostly TFs, becoming expert at them with the peeps I run with, so we see how fast/efficiently or better yet new interesting approaches to decimating targets quickly. (For example our average times for an apex/tin mage are now 9-10 mins instead of 15-20 each) Leveling and maxing out out toons is my least done activity. (have 6 fully realized, play mostly one toon (vet level 1039) with a side-helping of a second)
  2. I never thought to look. I'll see about that
  3. 😃 Anyone who knows The Prisoner is a +1 in my book
  4. Right about the vast majority of under 50 TFs: Posi 1 can barely be called one, Yin you can solo faster than many teams. Citadel etc etc. pretty much true of all of em. I was going to take issue with "The key is to find something to "tank" the AV while you dish out damage" buuut everyone's dif AT abilities/power sets make that probably a true statement often. I never approached any of my targets with that philosophy though. I tank the AV Don't use temp powers often My build is defensively compromised for QoL and other reasons Experience and strategy for sure. Everyone's mileage will vary depending on AT/Power Sets, but outside of Battle Maiden on Apex I just stand toe-to-toe with them All the under 50 TFs were done with no pets/Lores Most of the GMs were lore-less too, primarily because that's how I did it on live and figured using them now would cheapen the victory. (There were exceptions: Council War Walker and Halloween Jack cuz I was tired and wanted to log but found him alone so screw it =p) Experience is really the key, and not just with that particular AV/GM/TF...in general. People are always asking about my build...20% build 80% experience AND observation. I'm a big proponent of leveling through the content (maybe not all/every arc etc but some from every level-bloc zone, this is where you learn stuff. I could give someone my character to use and unless they had some decent longer-term experience with it in relation to the the content at various levels they probably won't pull off this stuff or play anywhere near close. Same for me, give me you're uber +4x8 destroyer of a blaster and no way will I pull off what you could do in any content without copious experience. Overall decent advice in general
  5. wow hey everyone thanks. alright a few things dual-boxing a TF is not a solo no envenomed dagger use In regards to phat lewts and what I do with them, collect em mostly: 1240 Villain Merits 2400 Empyrian Merits 9-10K Merits (when reach cap I convert 1000 to villain-merits and start again. 12 of each vr/26 of each rare/44 uncommon/160 each common. Thread Cap (10000) often then I spend a bunch of threads on team-damage inspirations TF Level gains: Apex/Tin Mage = Always 1 level LRSF + STF combined = 1 Level LGTF +MC + Khan + ITF combined = 1 Level I think it counts hah both =p
  6. Mmmm hmmm Vet Level 1006 Mind/Psi Dominator. Torchbearer A special thanks to all the people who have, and continue to facilitate my enjoyment and entertainment, especial KREW, you know who you are 😃 A thank you to all who made it possible to play this game again and to all who are playing. Turned xp off for a week to celebrate, but after 2-days I miss the bells and whistles of level-ups hah. So going to turn it back on an let it ride. Now I guess to finish the few remaining solos Be seeing you The origins of Number-Six (Best television show ever made + best theme song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlFiHhN8aew
  7. The first build/OP build is missing the one main attack, Mind Probe /Boggles. The concerns over End are on point too. -Number-Six Vet Level 1006 Mind/Psi Dominator, Solo'er of TFs/Trials/AVs/GMs
  8. Don't touch Super Jump, Super Speed, or Combat Jumping. They're perfect. Not only that, Super-Jump is THE best power in the game, and nothing else in-game makes you feel Super than leaping around the landscape, cities, maps.
  9. 'They work hard and are quickly rewarded with billion inf budgets with which to build their shiny TW/Bio scrappers and break the game.' how is it breaking the game? how does quickly making one, as opposed to say in a few weeks, differ in such breaking? Anyone can play buy low sell high for relatively little investment and certainly only a little time. Anyone can pick up inexpensive substitutes while leveling...typically I slot out fully at 31 here I get perma-dom, or perma hasten or whatever If people have 20B infamy so what? how does it affect anything? Anyone can take there 10 merits as a lowbie buy converters and sell them, then re-invest or spend. As was mentioned things here are cheap...way cheaper than live AND you have the merit system, you can buy that 20M recipe/enhancer for no infamy. I'd beyotch about the merit system before people infamy amounts. If you reaaaaly feel badly about not having big infamy you could employ one of the methods outlined. Out of all them the smallest use of one's time would be buy-low/sell high + selling <insert whatever> Really I fail to see how any income inequality affects anything here.
  10. First, many of the successful solo attempts weren't solos because they used an alt account to tank recluse. Doesn't count. Two-attempts here. Mind/Psi Dominator. The missions/AVs etc up to and including the final 4 (GW, BS etc) are pretty much no problem. Few uh oh moments I guess. For me (and another person I know) the barrier are the towers. I can't survive recluse long enough to dps the towers even with lores/ultimate etc etc. It's not just the towers but the mechanics who repair them. They come pretty fast and regular after half way, don't have the abilities to take them out that quick. Got a tower down to 1/3, died. But figured I could go back and continue. Nope repaired to full. Spent about 8 hours trying everything I could think of including balls to the wall brute force. I'll try exploring an alt build when I feel like I'm interested in another attempt. But It's a real pisser. Solo'd everything outside of Cuda/Khan/Miss Lib (and Lusca in the GM category, I actually forgot it was a thing for months), But man gotta get that solo STF.
  11. This isn't really true at all. They're awesome right out of the gate. Non-perma'd Dom'd it up pre-sets for a long time. Solo'd the content on highest difficulty, PvP'd with 'em successfully as well. First bad impression was my Ar/Dark Corr...had a lot of fun with it...but I loathe pets turns out. Still do. On anything....and DoTs
  12. Hardcore introvert here. Most of society doesn't understand and that's with 30% of the population being introverts. If a day boggles friend's mind imagine a month or say 3-years o_-. The chat channels ARE great in this respect, you're connected and know what's going on and can chime in when you want. So one feels part of an MMO that one can actively participate in as one chooses. SWG was like this/ 90% of the time my character was solo, but it almost never felt like I was alone due to the chat channel (and seeing people around)...something those 'why play an mmo if you're going to be solo-types never seem to understand. As to the issue at hand, I really don't see a need for server merges OR a problem with getting teams in general. I'm on Torchbearer. There are time periods where little is going on 11:00pm-1:00am pacific for example, but at 2-3 am this picks up again. Noon-10 pm never seems to be a problem. There ARE times, regularly where there seems to be nothing available or interested in...HOWEVER, this is largely due to me not forming a team myself (I don't want the social/game obligations that come with it). Which brings me to another point. There are a ton of people in the same boat, when someone does form something in LFG chat it's filled pretty quickly. Soooo, and I am reluctant to suggest this 'cuz it can rankle, but try forming something one's self (I've been pushed to alllmost doing this a few time around midnight) . Guaranteed there are people out there who will team but for whom starting one isn't an option (for a variety of reasons). Another reason comes to mind why groupage/teams may seem/be hard to come by...many people recruit in-house first. By in-house I mean, people in their global/SG/Coalition and then they LFG it publicly. Nothing to be done about that really but be acquainted with people I guess
  13. Hey V <waves>....hehe 30% (20?) build/ 70% long experience/practice + observation (true story) ps Moar Apex!11!! <--- =p
  14. I mainly use single-target controls. Not like mass hypnosis and mass confusion aren't used regularly. But I'm wicked awesome at tabbing through and/or choosing targets for Control...while concentrating on the AV (if there is one) I'm the best teammate because I lock down everything (necessary)...mmm great now I have to get all boastful- everyone loves me on their team, regular crew or PUGs...built myself quite the rep since May. <Joins Team> "Six! we got this now" "Hehe Six is here, now they can carry us" etc etc. My main beef is Control-ATs NOT controlling things...why am I the only one using holds on stuff, why am I the only one working to lock down the AV etc. Why are those things running around ganking things when there's 2 controllers and another Dom on the team? Quite the opposite in fact. I already addressed the AOE controls. But I never die (get crunched) no matter how large the mobs are or how small or what they are composed of. I don't have low defense, I'm just not soft capped, still have good defenses. I'm the first one in the AVs face and I stay there for mind probe and if necessary I manage the situation of the rest of the room/area from there. Hey that sounds fun actually. You seem to have built and maybe even mastered your AT/Build. That's great. So have I. We just have different playstyles. Interestingly enough I have a Mind/Psi Dom clone of my Torchbearer-Main on Excelsior. We should duo something for kicks. I would love to play with a mind/psi dom that actually knows what they are doing and can do it well. Yeah and I consider myself a bit of an expert because I've rocked this toon (PVE/PVP) on live since issue 8 as well as pretty much only playing that here. Solo'd almost every GM (no Lores), solo'd almost all the TFs and Trials in game. I'm totally down for a duo (no joke), I think it would be nifty to see an alternate build/play style played well, then we could both see what a Mind dom can truly be hehe...been wanting to make a radically altered second build now for about 4 months but never get around to it. So basically my posts are about providing an alternate view on people's assumptions (staying away from melee range, needing soft cap defenses, and my lamenting the lack of control use among control-ATs etc.) I see little little bad advice or hypocrisy.
  15. I like this post so much and the last half of the opening sentence is so true. Vet level 670 Dominator (Same AT build I play on live) here: I'm not even near the defense-cap and my one of my main attacks is the melee one. First one to the EB, first one to the AV. Tucked in right close. 'The beauty of a dominator is its ability to lock down mobs, especially when you've achieved permadom. A mezzed enemy deals no damage"- Exactly "If you're dying often, you need to click your mez powers once in a while"- omg this. Please. Why am I watching Doms on TFs with me never or rarely using their holds etc? (p.s. I never die)
  16. I've seen this: "your buttons come up fast so just spam them all" a LOT. Sometimes I'm working my ass off in a team with another dom or 2 in it and I have to wonder what they are doing...8 attacks in not one hold; an anemic AOE on a single AV when 2 better actions could have been taken in the activation/animation time. I think many people who play Doms have no experience playing them, PL'd to 50 slotted to perma...then absolutley no experience with the various mobs/AVs. No thought or observation put into it.
  17. Disagree. Virtually everything I do up until the 30s is single target, and even then the aoe damage power is anemic (could skip it if it weren't useful for sets) and I can do whatever. In fact I've soloed e everything with basically the powers from the first 18 levels really. this is 101 as far as I'm concerned Rarely do this on my Mind dom (my hyper-specialty), it's unnecessary really except for really large groups or clustered ones.
  18. My experience is the opposite. Doms are strong right out of the gate. Doms start out nicely and continue to be so, and get better and better, all the way to 50. And I'm talking SO era when there were no sets or IOs. Seriously you can solo the content on +3 no problem and do stuff that other ATs may find difficult. In this era their effectiveness is more pronounced especially when you can trick stuff out early (procs ATOs, cheap sets if you wish) "I have a couple Doms and I get where you are coming from. My Mind/Psi was hard to level and still feels a kind of wobbly" - Why this should be I don't know, it's awesome at level 2 let alone leveling up. From a few conversations with people I think it's how people play them. I had one person describe their leveling experience and game-play in missions and was frankly shocked at how they were approaching things, the powers they used and how they used them. It was sort of embarrassing because it seems after 15+ levels they hadn't learned anything about the AT or powers or put any thought on how to better use their stuff. While all power-set-combos may not be equal at a given level or block of levels, I just don't see how they can feel under-powered or difficult to run through the content.
  19. I've solo'd many GMs without temps/pets. My first batch of GMs were all no Pets/Lores/Temps. Never carried temps and I hate pets and one night (On Live) I saw an Eoachi Halloween style...lets give it a go. WIn! So I went about doing it to the rest. Scrapyard was the hardest due to regen and the Kronos Titan GM because robots/inanimate are the hardest to damage (/psi) Did the same here for a huge chunk of them. Winterlord-dude I Lore'd...meh, it's late and let's get this done. Same with all the AVs under 50 TFs/trials-no pets/temps. Annnd as someone mentioned not all are created equal, some are a lot harder and some are sorta pushovers -Number-Six Vet Level 660 Dominator-Extraordinaire (Like I'd give out my build, hah. And builds aren't the end of it anyway, experience (not xp) counts for a lot).
  20. When you Solo something you solo it. One character. Not with a second character from a second account. That's a duo. If all the soloing of various stuff being mentioned here and elsewhere is making use of a toon from a second account then they aren't solos. It'd be soooo easy to solo every TF logging in a second account to get over the hump of the hard parts. I didn't realize people were assuming I duo-accounted my Solo list (which is almost everything now). I quickly disabused them of the notion. Oh look I have 3 or 4 machines I can use with a different account, I'll log in this character here to help with this bit, and that character for this. Come on. If I start soloing LRSF then log a character to perma sleep the AVs to pick them off one at at time or confuse them into doing the work for me or a debuffer or whatever, is that soloing it? No. Nothing wrong with it, we all have our fun, but it's not 1 character doing it all, alone. A solo is one character and what they can bring to the table. Now I can't trust anyone's solo bio's or posts. O_o
  21. I loathe most blue-side TFs and content in general, because of this very thing. The entire side seems to be designed with making as much useless time sinks as possible. The 'if we make everything artificially take a very long time they'll have to subscribe longer'-school of game design Seriously some of these are terrible, and the story contacts are worse. You can better believe that if your told to go to a different zone with only 1 access point the mission will be at the furthest end of the map, every time. Or how about this- Top of IP map, go talk to this person (at the very bottom of the map)...oh they send me on a mission...at the very top of the map...oh now I have to actually return to said person at the bottom of the map....annd back to the top again. O_o My easy solution was to continue/go back to running Villain-side (I had to do all of Hero side at least once) and ignore blue content until I have access to the highest end stuff (miss libs etc). And never again will I run Crimson, Tina, Harvey, Unai again, these go on and on and on and on and all over. Ugg.
  22. I love Master-Of PUGs runs. They usually allow me to show off by carrying the team and ensuring a successful completion hehe {_____O_O____} TF intentions when advertising IS important. Honestly, at least on Torchbearer, they're pretty good about this (master of run, kill all, kill most, speed). I still think people are self-limiting in what they think they need. For example, while this wasn't a TF, it illustrates: I was toodling around and in LFG there was a call by some for some melee damage, to tank and dps a mission EB I would guess. I was going to answer but I'm a dom and I didn't feel like explaining that I could solo what they needed completed if needed. I bet any number of different ATs could have. But there seems to be some percent of the player base who have a narrow or unexperienced view of what is possible in this era when everyone is uber as hell. My generous side postulates it's previous experiences with other games/systems
  23. Best Experience This one is recent. Soloing my favourite TF in the game Apex/Tin Mage. Apex was fun and Battle Maiden solo with sword and NPCs and constant blue patches was fun. And finishing off 4 AVs (2 of which I had to fight at the same time, the Robots, was a thrill because the outcome was uncertain. Honorable mention: I just love cheesing Yin with confuse at the end of an LRSF, it's hilarious to watch all the other AVs melt to her. Favourite Content: Dark Astoria story arc (not those repeatable missions). Challenging in places, great story, some excellent cut scenes with you in it and a moral choice at the end Task Force Tips: /shrug inspirations? Actually the best task Force tips is run them, them ore experience you have with them the better one does. AV Challenges: Inspirations, various temp powers. I found many of these extras unnecessary and never used em for most of my solos. But I do bring them and have used em. (I had to use everything and more to defeat bobcat who can 1 shot me (and did a number of times) Bang For Buck Arcs: Dark Astoria story arcs. Merits Making Side Runs: SSA is decent the first few times. But the winner goes to flashbacking the Heather DA contact from the story arc. This 4 part mission can be run in 9-12 minutes and you get 1 Emp merit and a common automatically AND a choice of a second emp or a c-vr incarn reward roll. 2 empyrian merits can be converted to 20 merits. Best return for time invested outside of an Apex/Tin Mage run. Can t4 all your incarn powers in as little as 3 days. Soul-Crushing Defeats: My first Apex try. Nothing going on one night, well lets load up a solo Apex and see first hand if it's a viable solo. Make way to the end and Battle Maiden. Take her down to half, , she disappears, fight the mobs, she reappears. Tough fight she hits hard. So hard she 1-shotted me in melee range with a fresh Barrier, multiple super inspirations, and a just popped ultimate. Lessons learned, second attempt went very well indeed. Overall Tricks: Let's see.....oh wait is that the phone? <goes to answer it> Silver Mantis was mentioned. Just the normal contact EB one is tough, but my nemesis was always the Miss Liberty in the 40s villain content. Especially if one is only tricked out with SOs etc and not sets. I remember finally getting her down to close to defeated only to have her heal up to half and having little insps left. This was back in the day. My toons are set pieced up by level 30-32 now so it's a lot different.
  24. Gulbasaur makes an excellent point. "Some of the best runs I've had have been tankless ones with a gaggle of controllers, dominators, defenders and corrutpors - they liquefy anything that stands in their way. Lots of the "squishy" archetypes can more than hold their own - several controller builds can tank better than a few tankers I've met in the game, before IOs and other boosts and radiation defenders have been soloing AVs since before City of Villains even existed. It's a very flexible system." Totally true.
