Mageman Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 (edited) I'm trying to create a Brute that is fun to play and very survivable - both in the AE and outside. I've played a fire farming brute, and it just isn't very good outside the AE. I've tried searching the Brute and Guides forums, but I'm not very successful in finding something that interests me. I would like to be able to say "I came, I saw, I kicked its @**. From what I've found, I'm thinking a Rad/Rad brute would fit, but I'm not finding any builds for it. One thing I'd prefer is toggles in the secondary. I hate getting stunned because I forgot to click something (I'm thinking of Willpower or Invulnerability, but I'm not sure). Edited December 2, 2019 by Mageman
Erratic1 Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Mez protection is a toggle for both Invulnerability and Willpower. Perhaps you were thinking of Shield?
Mageman Posted December 2, 2019 Author Posted December 2, 2019 (edited) I'm not sure what I'm thinking - I just don't want to lose protection against anything because I missed clicking on a power. I think Regen is one of the sets where many of the powers are click instead of toggle. I'd prefer a set where I don't have to worry about losing a power because I forgot to click it again. Ideally, I'd like to find a brute where I can go AFK next to a Pylon and not have to worry about a face-plant. Edited December 2, 2019 by Mageman
Erratic1 Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Even on click ones you should just set it auto and slot for enough recharge that it is always up. I have not clicked on my Rad/Shield brute since he was too low to have it perma.
HelenCarnate Posted December 2, 2019 Posted December 2, 2019 Willpower is the least clicky set for armor. All endurance and healing (regen in this case) are done through either auto powers or toggles. Other than the tier 9 and self rez you set it and forget it. 1

Sovera Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 /Bio tends to be stupid since it's super survival on top of being an offense oriented set. I'm currently playing a Claws/Bio which exemps really well and has an early AoE. I have the build on the forums. Rad melee is also pretty fun while being stupidly survivable on account of the passive healng in Radiation Siphon that, on my Scrapper, healed for 300 HP. It also mitigates the lack of early AoE (it only has the 'real' AoE at 32) by having the Contaminated splash damage mechanic and Irradiated Ground that actually does more damage than a regular damage aura since A) it does not require accuracy, B) takes in a LOT of damage procs (in fact the usual slotting for it is six procs), and finally, C) it drops a patch on the ground every 5 seconds giving it double the value. Resist based armor sets are pretty good too but I never played one so I can't tell you more about them. - Simple guide for newcomers. - Money making included among other things. - Tanker Fire Armor: the Turtle, the Allrounder, the Dragon, and compilation of Fire Armor builds. - Tanker Stone Armor: beginner friendly (near) immortal Tanker for leveling/end-game and Stone Armor framework. - Brute Rad/Stone and compilation of Brute Stone Armor builds.
Snarky Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Heyas. I have played SS Invul and SS Will forever. With a SO build both are very survivable and Invul impressively so. Of course with SO Invul struggles for End until you get physical perfection Dark added to Invul is insanely tough. I personally believe the Dark/Invul melee is the toughest combination in the game. Almost zero AoE. That will really feel stupid after farming. It is not unless you try to farm with it Hyperstrike posted a very expensive I/O build i am using on my main SS/Invul. The only thing that puts a dent in it are when i exemplar down to 15th level and run a task force. Still insanely good. And the patches of death in incarnate trials. Nothing else mi es either its red or blue bars below 80%. This includes Comic Con Farms fire farms etc. the build is literally bulletproof some peeps love shield defense but it is more work intensive and you mentioned not liking clicky. Invul and Will are both background. I look down every 5 minutes and am like yep still there. I do check my health bar in my main after huge alphas. Usually still above 95%. The thing is scary I have not tried Bio Armor. I hear it is good and fun if you like to shift gears from attack to defense tactics. I think it benefits well from I/Os and as a farmer i know you will be doing that stone...cannot be killed. Curb will mess your butt up though. Just standing there looking at that 4inch mountain screaming whhyyyyyygh most of the rest of the armors are either def based. You will get screwed by the RNG at some point in these. The heavier you run the more often it will happen. Or Damage dealing armors. These tend to be like fire aura. Good in one area or as part of a strong team but more squishy otherwise regeneration.... reminds me of the motorcycle rider in the old coast to coast race movie gumball rally. Ooof. That is a rough choice. Glad they put it in for us concept players Good Luck Brute brother
KelvinKole Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Rad and bio armor are in a very good place, being new sets. Both have some element of management though, but not in the mez protection. Invuln, electric, and dark armor are probably the best "set and forget" sets. All can be built to be extremely durable. For primaries, almost everything works on a Brute. I haven't played psi melee, but I hear that gets heavily resisted late game so maybe stay away?
Snarky Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Were you trying to saw willpower and said dark? Because dark.... its a little tough to shore up due to its 17 toggles and still being a bit squish despite that
SeraphimKensai Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Ice/Stone Armor. Has amazing survivability in and out of the AE.

I can’t believe the team just hopped over it and ran off. Sigh. Lets see teleport? Maybe shed heavy armor and run. Darned. Who put these curbs here anyway? 1

It's endurance heavy, no doubt, but has a ton of build potential with IOs. You can get very solid resists across the board, with virtually no holes, and moderate defenses. Plus a big heal.
