Dark Dark build advice

I am putting together a Dark Dark Corruptor to see if I enjoy the playstyle.

While I was Redside exclusively Live, (except for the last year or so when I wanted to team lol,) I never played Corruptors because I was pissed Corruptors were "support" and "healers" and I wanted a villain BLASTER.

Then we got Going Rogue and....Blasters do not Blast (imo) They PBAoE Scrap mostly.  I struggle with these concepts like Monk struggles with lamp posts.  Just cannot leave it alone.

Anyways, a few weeks have passed in my gaming experience and I have become older, not necessarily wiser, but definitely older.  I have come to believe on a team or league (especially the current very high damage iterations people are running) that a Corruptor brings more to the table than a Blaster.  I am sure part of that depends on situation and player skill, but in my view of game theory that is how I see it.

I am hooked onto Dark/Dark for concept reasons.  Will be running either Dark or Soul as my ancillary/patron.

I am hoping for some advice to a new Corruptor.  WTF do I do?

I have run one Ice/Cold Corruptor at 50 for a few weeks.  Very powerful.  Pretty much hover, debuff, and drop AoE patches.  Dark/Dark looks to be a very different animal.

So, any advice on a Dark/Dark Corr's powers would be great.  What to take, what to avoid.  What is bread and butter gotta have, what is "okay if you like to run it this way"

I do enjoy cones.  My favorite Blaster is a Dark/Mental/Soul with 5 cones.  In fact, my goal here is to play a character that is more powerful than that Blaster.  I enjoy he thing but I want more toolkits than "run in, Drain, PbAoE, run out, cone for 30 secs.  repeat now."

Thank you for any advice and feedback.

Dark Miasma is a really good set. The one power to avoid is Black Hole. Slot Fearsome Stare for -tohit, not fear. It has the same debuff as Darkest Night and they stack. Tar Patch is a huge -res that you want to use every time it's up. There are a lot of strategies for slotting Dark Servant, but I go for a mix of -tohit and heal.

For Dark Blast, you should be aware that the powers aren't the same as blasters get. Avoid Dark Pit. Torrent is skippable unless you really like knockback. Not sure you need Life Drain since you already have Twilight Grasp.

Here is the build I am playing with.  as with all my Dark/Dark theme I tend to emulate CoT tactics.  Debuff my opponents Accuracy becomes a primary goal.  I always want to hit, I never want my opponents to hit.

therefore I have softcap on Ranged Def, huge accuracy bonuses, and went Dark Mastery Ancillary.  This was mostly due to the fact Soul Drain has a larger radius on Dark Mastery than it does on Soul Mastery.  I run a Dark/Dark Brute.  That is a sweet buff when saturated.

You need more melee defense if you plan to use dark mastery. I think this might be better (this can be further maximized if we plan to get the alpha incarnate):

I hate cones, but I included them for you. This doesn't have a full ST attack chain either, but you can still use a bunch of cones like you want.

For your build ideas, I'd do something like this. Endurance is probably going to be a problem though. @Snarky

@Darkir Great Build and I am trying to emulate the first build you posted but LvLing up is difficult if I follow the mids directly. Is there a different build to get to 50?

Hi, sorry, I haven't been playing at all for several months now and have not checked the forums. The devs nerfing RoP for contrived reasons despite all the protests and community feedback against it (why not raise other powers up to it's level, etc.) Really left a bad taste in my mouth.

So the short answer is yes, of course. Leveling up we want to 3 slot all our defense powers with endurance reduction and defense (lotg), make sure we have panacea, miracle, and numinas in health, and then 3 slot stamina with 2 end mods and a performance shifter. That should help out our endurance issues. We can also slot end an end proc in our heal (theft of ess nice I think)? Then another end proc from our corruptor ato. This should have us covered for end as we level.

I found your build in this thread darkir and have begun levelling a dark/dark corr for fun and rp!

Thank you for sharing, it was not ez to find as I had to delve into the search function a bit to find it, but glad it works

Currently low level and having fun with it!

Due to the changes to dark miasma I would go with a defender for this combo now, but I am glad you are having fun with it. Dark miasma is a great power set and stacking tar pit is very satisfying.

Bumping this thread.  I am back on this toon.  It is built exactly as in my original post. (Really surprised to find it sitting on page 10 of my load in screen still all built up lol)

I would love to talk about what powers to use (and possibly drop) and WHY.  Especially since I am dusting it off for use in things like the new challenge TFs.

Thank you.

I've a Dark/Dark corr languishing in the 30's, so I'd be interested in seeing how this works out.  Samedi needs some build love.  (Don't think I ever got her to max level on Live, either.  Was awesome in low levels, but somewhere around 28-35 it got... meh.)

I really enjoyed being back on this and finally worked out a good rhythm for PBAoE, then cones and ST range

And then promptly rebuilt my Dark Dark Soul Badger Blaster using that knowledge and what I learned about “fake” armoring a Blaster.

Now that I understand Dark Dark Dark on the Corruptor I can effectively run the Dark Dark Soul Blaster and appreciate what Dark brings to Blasting.  No, I do not have tar patch and fear or as much to hit debuffs.  But now I understand the rules and rhythm and can tear through rooms   If that does not work I have my Phase Shift and some time to figure another angle on the fight

but these are the yummy yummy Snarky. Blasters = Don't Mezz Me Bro bait.

Of the chosen below Shadow Fall is the optional in my book (but i take it)..

T.G. does more than just heal.

H.T. being a huge debuff more than a Rez.

F.S. is such epic control which is easily perma'd with a possible -20%+ -tohit and some interesting proc options.

Darkest Night is a pretty big aggro magnet and End drain.

You lead most fights on the Corruptor with Tar and Cone of To Hit debuff….errr fear.  Then joust to correct range(s) depending on situation

I looked at the damages of all similar (same) powers on Blaster vs Corruptor.  Big difference.  Also the Blaster opens almost every fight with Nuke.  When it is not up the Blaster has FOUR cones.  One is KB->KD, an immobilize, all do damage and they are recharged almost fast enough to be continuous.  It is withering AoE and since the cones are virtually non stop the “cone line up and fire control” issue only needs to be solved once. Or just do an ST burn.  Also the Blaster has two Holds.  Can hold Paragon Prot or Victoria Robots.

And seriously, look at me, I just wanna destroy crap.

IF your defender/corruptor literally leads with tar patch, things could get ugly fast. JS. I too like the cone of massive to-hit debuff and I alternate that with the Target AoE autohit -regen, slow that also happens to revive when there are unlucky teammates in the area.

Uun posted upthread that you should use Tar Patch every time it is up.  I actually had pretty good luck doing this.  Not dying and really screwing with mobs.  When it looked fierce I would wait for the agro to be grabbed. The only issue is the Blaster just does so much more damage.  I can clean mobs that the Corr is debuffing.

My main is a dark/dark defender... have always loved his power sets. I agree with most of what everything that has been said, except with Darkest Night on a defender, I can floor the baddies' toHit with a -29% toHit debuff. In the beginning game the safest place is right next to the guy with Darkest Night on him. End game it's great to keep the team alive as they battle the AVs/giant monsters. And it's pretty good for pulling.... if you want big groups. The radius of darkest night is pretty big, and the baddie with it on him will pull every mob he runs past... up to the aggro cap, and even then they'll start streaming in as you kill.  You don't get as big a -ToHit debuff as a corruptor or blaster, but it's close. Base for defenders is 18.75%, base for corruptors is 15%. So you're looking at a -23% toHit debuff. Not bad if you add in the -toHit debuffs from your other powers. Darkest night also has a -30% damage debuff.

Howling Twilight is a major -500% regen debuff that lasts 30 secs. When going after AVs and GMs I make sure it's part of my attack chain. So is Twilight Grasp with its -50% regen that lasts 20 secs and STACKS!  Their ability to rez and heal is secondary to their ability to debuff regen (although rezzing and healing comes in handy).

Tar Patch has come in handy for more than just its excellent -resistance. For defenders, it's a whopping -30% Res. For corruptors it's -22.5% res. 23% is a decent amount of -res in the game. This power shines in situations where you need a lot of control. It's not just a -res, it's also an AoE slow power! More mobs in the game are affected by slow than any other mez, and that includes AVs!

Shadow Fall is a key +def and +res power for you... and your team... but mostly for you. Helps a lot with getting up to the caps. For corruptors, +23% res and +5.85 def.

Fearsome Stare is a great power. The fear is very useful for locking down groups and keeping the aggro off you, but it also has a -ToHit debuff that is as big as Darkest Night... -23% ToHit for corruptors and lasts 20 secs. Combine that with Darkest Night and you'll be smacking baddies with a -46% toHit debuff! They won't hit anything! Get its recharge down to 20 secs (base is 40 secs) and you'll have a perma -ToHit debuff that floors your enemies' ToHit.

Petrifying Gaze is a decent hold. Useful, but skippable. Whether you take it depends on your play style and how much of a benefit you get out of a single target hold. I took it because I found it to be a survival tool while soloing, but that's me.

Avoid Black Hole. The intangibility ends up preventing your teammates from killing them far more than it does protecting you or your teammates.  Think of fighting Carnies and how annoying it is when they go intangible and there's nothing you can do except sit and wait for them to become corporeal again. It's annoying. The intangibility last for 30 secs and there's nothing you can do about it but wait it out.

Dark Servant AKA "Fluffy". It's an OK pet. Not controllable like Mastermind pets, and it's blood thirsty! It has a large perception range, and will go attack anything it sees. I play strategically, and Fluffy does not, so I skip him. He just pissed me off too much back back on live for me to take him now... he frequently got my whole team killed by aggroing mobs we didn't want to aggro. That said, he comes with a decent set of powers... a 10ft PBAOE -30% toHit debuff that's always on. Twilight Grasp. Petrifying Gaze. Darkest Night, and Tenebrous Tentacles... but you'll notice no big attacks.

DARK BLAST POWER SET:

I took every power except Torrent. I don't need the baddies to stay away from me. They can't hit me! I do need them dead, though... so I took all the attacks. Someone above mentioned Life Drain...  It's a great power. Does High damage and a decent heal. Super important for survival if you're soloing. If not, it's another heal that can save your life if the damage is coming in too fast and too frequent. And of course it's one of Dark Blast's most damaging attacks, third after Blackstar and Moonbeam (and tied with Gloom). Take it and love it.

DARK MASTERY EPIC POOL:

Oppressive Gloom is worthless and will get you killed. Avoid it.

Dark Consumption is good for end troubles, and the dark sets are heavy on end, but I was forced to take it so I could get the other powers in the set. Otherwise I would have skipped it.

Dark Embrace is a necessary +res shield, and with the newish Noir style it looks freakin cool!

Soul Transfer is just a self rez power. You can get a temporary power for that if you really want to do that. Not worth the power slot.

Soul Drain boosts your damage. Important... but... the downside to it is that is has to hit the baddies for it to work, and it's a PBAOE, which means you have to get close to them. Since Blackstar, your Nova, is a PBAOE, and you have to drop in the middle of the group of baddies to use it... might as well take Soul Drain and get the extra damage boost. On the other hand, it's useless if you like to stay away from baddies. Definitely not as useful a power as Build Up in other sets. It's also a moderate damage power, but its recharge is very long at 240 secs. Blackstar's recharge is 145 secs. So Soul Drain is not that useful as part of your attack chain. There's good and bad to this power.  For endgame content, I need to say that I rarely use this power.

And that's about all you need to know. My own build is extremely tight because I took 3 powers from the fighting pool, 1 power from the teleportation pool, and for thematic reasons 3 powers from the flight pool, and 1 power from the stealth pool. I wish I could take Hasten, but I just can't get rid of any of my pool powers for thematic reasons. I could get rid of Teleport Target, but it's such a useful power while playing with a team. Arrrrggghhhhh!!!!

Alternatively, you could rely on the stealth from Shadow Fall combined with a stealth IO in Sprint to get full stealth. This would allow you to grab hasten.

Right now my little new year project just finished all 1-19 content and that is exactly what he does.  The rework on stealth made the stealth proc gold.  For combat the shadow fall gets me close enough to be tactical.

I'm thinking about it... The thing is, Black Spectre has a spirit form. He turns intangible and invisible. It's part of this concept. He's often hard to see in ghost form and disappears inexplicably all the time. "Where'd he go? I was just talking to him!" Turning on Shadow Fall to disappear doesn't seem like it would work. Too obvious. But still thinking about it...

I figured out I could use the temporary power Ethereal Shift for intangibility, and put a Freebird stealth IO into Flight so he turns translucent whenever he turns into spirit form to fly. This made it so I didn't have to take Phase Shift in the Concealment pool, and that saved me a power slot.

I'll look into possible invisibility temporary powers... maybe there's something like that?

Well there is Phase Shift in the Concealment pool.

Edit:  And I totally missed Black Spectre mentioning Phase Shift above ... somehow.
