Is Dark/Dark a Good Combo?

Maybe not optimal, but damn entertaining. The substitute for build up in /dark (name escapes me atm) gives a potentially huge damage buff that lasts longer (30 seconds or so).

I have a dark/dark blaster and an archery/dark blaster. Both are great fun, and I can imagine pistols/dark would be good combo as well.

But yeah, outside of that the utility is pretty mediocre. Dark's damage is rather DoT based at times and in the meta game of speed I can see why it might come across as lacking, but I don't think Dark's damage is actually that bad. It is also lightly if not the least resisted.

Darkness Manipulation is mostly a blapper set. It's got 3 melee attacks, a PBAoE damage aura, the damage buff (tied to a PBAoE attack) and an end recovery power (tied to a PBAoE attack). The sustain power is kind of wonky, since it's a click with a 120 second duration coupled to a ranged fear. Other than that it's got a ranged immobilize and a ranged AoE stun. While thematically similar to Dark Blast, a secondary that keeps you in melee may not be the best match for a primary with 2 cones.

Dark Blast wants you at range.  Like Uun said, Dark Manipulation is a blapper secondary that wants you in melee.  While a nice combination thematically, they are at odds in game mechanics.

 

If you want Dark Blast, I would recommend Devices, Energy Manipulation, Tactical Arrow, or Temporal Manipulation instead.

 

If you want Dark Manipulation, I would recommend Dual Pistols, Fire Blast, or Radiation Blast instead.

Best "Crow" theme I could think of is Dark Blast/Martial Combat.  I agree that Dark Manipulation is the correct secondary, thematically, but none of the primaries fit.  Have you thought about a Scrapper?

I have a Dark/Energy Blaster who is pretty great and extremely hard to kill. Not the fastest Blaster in terms of kill times, but not every character needs to be.

 

I really appreciate Dark Blast having an immobilize. That's a feature many Blasters don't get and it does make life much easier IMO.

     Certainly much easier to be and stay at range if all your foes are immobilized "over there".  Then when and where (or if) you want to be in melee it's your choice.
