Seeing as Praetoria is a start for characters, and that those characters are unable to cross into the red/blue sides until missions around level 20 (though they can access Pocket D), I'd put a priority on matching any day jobs normally acquired in the red/blue sides at levels up to 20.  They may have already done that, admittedly. I've only one gold-side character at the moment and haven't investigated.  I'll have to correct that.

You can get quite a few Dayjobs as a Praetorian.  There are some unavailable.

Pilot, Commuter, and Shopkeeper are the only Red/Blue that Praetorians can get, but they have to switch sides to get the badge.  (Loyalist for Pilot, Resist for the other two)  (Echo Plaza, Atlas via the Gull, and the shack in the Winter area)

Praetorians can get:

Patroller / Criminal, Architect, Commuter / Fare Jumper, Shop Keeper / Price Gouger, Caregiver / Pain Specialist, Professor, Banker / Thief, Clubber, Day Trader / Marketeer, Midnighter, Grounded / Pilot, Fashion Designer, Monitor Duty, Mortician, Cold Hand of Death D.U.S.T. Ranger, Scavenger, Psychologist, and Survivalist

They can not get:

City Official / Ousted Official, Law Enforcer / Dirty Cop, Dimensional Explorer / Dimensional Plunderer, Intern / Wage Slave, Vanguard Recruit, Chronologist, Duelist, Cimeroran, Predator, Crey Test Subject / Crey Employee, Arachnos Traitor / Arachnos Official, Cannon Fodder / Arachnos Agent, Gunrunner / Smuggler, and Professional Liar / Demagogue

It'd be nice if standing around the Monkey Fight Cage in Pocket D gave the Duelist/Predator day job.

There's an idea, the Gambler Day Job since (presumably) you'd be spending your time wagering on monkey fights (unless DJ Zero forbid that, then nevermind).  Give it a bonus reward roll of an enhancement, salvage, or recipie at the end of a mission.  Just an extra anything on top of what we already get access to.

Regarding the XP bonus, do you continue to do that once they reach 50, in hopes of advancing veteran levels?

At the moment, not so much. As a severe altoholic, once I exceeded 120 alts I decided to make myself slow down on rolling new ones and focus on leveling the ones I have. So my main thing right now is just getting characters to 50 (doing this in groups of ten alts), then moving on to the next batch. Current 50s, when I get the itch to play one of them, just get logged out at the nearest convenient logout spot when I'm done. Of my first ten 50s, nine of them have completed the DA story; the tenth is working on that, so he's logged out in the DA hospital. 50s #11-30 haven't started DA yet. I'm currently working on #31-40, and they're all currently at levels 40-42.

Time Lord, log out in Ouro for the +rech.  It's useful especially on alts that I don't log into except to do the WST, because they generally have the 10% rech for the whole time.

Ouro doesn't give +rech. Per the HC Wiki, Ourobouros gives a recipe bonus for mission completion.

I believe you're thinking of the PvP day job.

No, Time Lord. The accolade that you get if you have Oro and Cim day jobs. It gives +Rech if you log in either Cim or Oro, in addition to the normal bonus for that zone.

How long does it take to get each day job badge? Is it really 100 hours offline?

That sounds about right.  That equals slightly more than 4 days equivalent for the character to be offline.  Unless your day job in real life is CoH, your first character, playing 4 hours or so a night will finish 1 badge every 5 days or so.  While this may sound frustrating to some newer players, be aware that the Homecoming team dramatically shortened the time period.  With their introduction in Issue 13 of the original game, Day Job badges were earned every 30 days.  So it would have taken years to earn them all.  I believe there was a reduction before the end of the original game, but not as short as it is these days.  Many thanks, HC team!

And, of course, once one is an alt-oholic, You can take some time every several days to rotate the characters you're not currently playing into a new Day Job.  They'll earn while you play another character.

Yup - so 4 days & 4 hours, while not playing the character.

Keep Redside - & Goldside - Alive!

Having the BadgeReporter Popmenu helps me a lot to quickly check the Day Jobs section for what Badges a toon has earned and needs to earn.

BTW, I also maintain BadgeReporter and there's a new version just released for Issue 27 Page 7.  See my signature below for the link to the post.  Or here. 😺

https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/25091-theunnamedones-badgereporter-popmenu-version-20240220a/

Anyhoo, here's what I do to start new toons down the lightweight Badging path I send all of them on, starting with the Day Job Badges and a few others.

I have a field in my toon LibreOffice spreadsheet to note where they're parked on logout to help track Day Job earning.  I also note the day (UTC, 'cause that's the time on the City servers 😺) by entering in

=TODAY()-DATEVALUE("YYYY-MM-DD")

which then shows a value of how many days since I logged out that toon.  Just have to update "YYYY-MM-DD" to today's date when I log in a toon.

This was very important in the past when it took 21 days to earn each Day Job Badge and...10? days to charge a Day Job Accolade power.  Now Day Job Badges only take 100 hours (4 days 4 hours) to earn, but still close to the same amount to charge the powers.

Like @Psyonico, I normally go through the Day Jobs for

  • Hospital (often starting in Outbreak Hospital when I park a toon after creation but don't have the time to finish including the Isolator Badge)
  • then University
  • then Midnighter's
  • then park back in a Hospital to charge both the Revive Ally and Vitalize powers.

Early on with a new toon, I normally take them to see Null the Gull in Pocket D.  Push the conversation to get the Gullible Badge, turn off the Travel popup tray, and always accept Mystic Fortune, then rotate through all Alignments to get most of the Alignment Achievement Badges.  Then go Vigilante and pop out Redside to get the "Grass is Meaner::Grass is Greener" Alignment Achievement Badge.  Back to the Gull and change to Hero Alignment for the next 10 days to earn the first of the remaining 4 Aliignment Achievement Badges.

With Page 7, I will add in quick trips to Studio 55 and the Paragon Dance Party to quickly get the "Party Animal" Badge too (except on Goldside toons, who will have to wait for PDP).

Then I normally earn the next 2 Day Jobs at

  • Vault Reserve
  • then either Wentworths or the Black Market if Redside (the Auction House in Imperial City if Goldside).

At this point, the toon has likely earned the "Heard the Call" Badge for 10 days as a Hero and the "Fearsome" Badge for 10 days as a Vigilante.  So, with the base 5 Day Job Badges (Hospital, University, Midnighter, Vault, Market), some of which are on Accolades with the 6 Redside Day Job Badges, it's off to the Rogue Isles to rotate through them, as well rotate them through the "Frenzied" Badge for 10 days as a Villain and the "Trickster" Badge for 10 days as a Rogue.

After the toon gets all 6 Redside Day Job Badges and is now a Rogue, it's back to the Gull to go Vigilante, then to Paragon City to earn the 6 Blueside Day Job Badges.

Part way through this, if the toon is on my active play list, I'll play it in a few bursts to get enough Patrol XP to unlock the "Patroller::Criminal" Badge.  Gettimg Patrol XP from Exploration Badges will make that easier.

At this point, the only Day Job Badges left are accessible to both Blueside and Redside toons, so I then rotate the toon through getting them and charging the various Day Job Accolade powers.  I may not use many of them, but all my toons have them, just in case.

I realize each will have their own preference, but which day jobs do you consider important enough to park in for charges?

https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/D.U.S.T._Ranger_Badge

Power

Elite Ranger

Auto: Self +Dmg (All), +ToHit, +Range

Your damage, ToHit, and Range have been increased slightly due to your training from your Day Job.

The Elite Ranger day job power grants +2% ToHit, +8% Damage, and +10% Range.

Before a character earns this badge:

For every 2 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration.

After a character earns this badge:

For every 1.4 hours logged out, a character gains 1 minute duration, up to a maximum of 2 hours duration.

Do you do a rotation of them, and which ones?

I try to make sure that the following stay over 15 charges:

Revive Ally

Vitalize

Rune of Purification

That being said, I alway purchase all the teleports from the P2W/START vendor when I create a character.

I still do try to get Rapid Response Member on all my characters and have some charges on both the individual and portal base-teleports.

When I first create a character at this point, I'm generally going for the Hospital-Caregiver/University-Professor or the Shadow Shard for the flight pack (if I don't intend on getting a flight travel power - max charge = 2 hours of toggle active - I only recharge this once it gets below 15 minutes of charge).

Historically, before Day Jobs were added to the game, I used to park characters in different places in THE CITY related to their character creation.

One used to park in a chimney so they could rocket out of it upon log-in.

Now, once some Day Jobs are trained up and charged, 90% park at the D.U.S.T. Training Facility because I don't tend to play more than 2 hours at a time per character.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.
