Ringo
I was thinking of rolling a new Blaster. I have a 50 Psychic/Temporal, and I've got a smattering of Sentinels, so the ranged set I think I want to play with is Archery. I just don't know what to pair it with! /Temporal is out. And I'll arbitrarily throw out /Dark as well because I never want to Shadow Maul anything ever again. I was looking at /Nin but it looks very lackluster. So what would you all recommend and why? Fedifensor
Archery/Tactical Arrow is the most thematic, and Glue Arrow is a nice way of keeping your distance from foes. Others prefer secondaries with melee options, but I prefer to stay as far away as possible.
Rathulfr
TACTICAL ARROW If I could make that blink like an annoying 90's web site, I would. If you're playing an Archery Blaster, you want Tactical Arrow. Eagle Eye, Agility, and Gymnastics, by themselves, make this secondary worthwhile, even if you don't train any other power in the set. Glue Arrow, Ice Arrow, and Flash Arrow are the utility powers from Trick Arrow that we all know and love. My level 50 main villain is Archery/Tactical Arrow, and I have only Electrified Net Arrow, Upshot, Eagle Eye, Agility, and Gymnastics -- I didn't take any of the other arrow powers because I decided I didn't need them. Instead, I was able to max out my defense by adding Hover, CJ/Acrobatics, Stealth, Leadership and Scorpion Shield to Gymnastics. BTW: no Hasten required -- Agility takes care of that. "But what about the End cost of all those toggles?" Eagle Eye is a toggle version of Quick Recovery, so I never run out of endurance -- while running 10 toggles (yes, 10 -- an entire tray of toggles). @Rathstar Energy/Energy Blaster (50+3) on Everlasting Energy/Temporal Blaster (50+3) on Excelsior Energy/Willpower Sentinel (50+3) on Indomitable Energy/Energy Sentinel (50+1) on Torchbearer

DoctorKumquat
My (incredibly biased) vote is for /EM, having played one for ages. Admittedly, I made my archer ~10 years ago before /TA was an option for blasters, and while it is a cool and thematic pairing if you want more utility arrows and hate meleeing, it's far from the only one. /TA, between Eagle Eye, Agility, and Gymnastics, offers +20% accuracy, +20% recharge, +50% recovery, +225% regen, +1.75% def, KD/Immob protection, and some speed boosts and mes resistance (still hits you, but wears off quicker). That's sweet, not gonna lie. Energy Manipulation offers a variety of high-damage smashing/energy melee attacks, which are very useful versus ghosts, robots, and other highly-lethal-resistant foes. If CoT ghosts have 40+% lethal resistance, an A/TA blaster is going to have a bad time (their immobilize only does ~20% more damage than Snap Shot, as an 8 second DoT), but an A/EM blaster can pop off Bone Smasher + Total Focus to annihilate it. It also gives a blaster Energize; that's not really a selling point with every secondary offering some sort of sustain tools these days, but it IS among the nicer options for that now instead of the trash it was many issues ago, with permanent +120% global endurance reduction and the same +regen as Eagle Eye. Power Boost is fine, but being able to turn Aid Self / Aid Other into a full heal is admittedly rather niche. None of that is all that important though. Boost Range is the real selling point here. Perma right out of the box with SOs, this power is the equivalent of 3-slotting all your abilities with range SOs, an effect that no one ever does because you need to slot them for acc/dam/rech instead, but is surprisingly nice once you try out. As an Archer, your bread and butter is mowing down basically every spawn with a brutal volley of Rain of Arrows/Fistful of Arrows/Explosive Arrow, but with Boost Range, you can do that full chain from over 100' away, and joust around to mow down any lucky bosses that survived the initial salvo. Being able to tag the ENTIRE battle with Fistful no matter how spread out they are is a huge QoL perk, and this makes kiting a breeze if you want to cheese fights with hover / joust around with Combat Jumping + Hurdle. As an archer, being able to just tag enemies no matter how far they are feels RIGHT. It also affects non-attack powers; an /EM Blaster with Teleport is THE fastest character in the game if you need to cross long distances (Shadow Shard maps, I'm looking at you). oedipus_tex
/Temporal is the most underrated set IMO, mainly on account of it blooming late. Temporal has 2 main advantages that often go unnoticed: Time Shift, the level 35 power, is a Mag 3 Stun with 70ft range and a 20ft radius. Thus, other than its duration, it is identical to the Controller power Flashfire. As far as I'm aware, this power is stronger than ANY Stun available to ANY power set in the game other than the pure Control sets. This includes the Defender/Corruptor buff sets, which are typically Mag 2. The Stun won't last as long as a Controllers would, but for a Blaster, you don't need to. Stun the mob from afar and then blast them into bits in near perfect safety. You can even add a Knockback proc if you want and it will trigger extremely frequently and knock bosses down too. Time Lord, the level 38 power, provides protection from Stuns. If you combine Time Lord, Combat Jumping and Acrobatics, you thus have protection from Hold, Stun, and Immobilize. Not amazing protection, mind you, but enough that combined with your other abilities can carry you far.

Frostweaver
/Ice, for a couple of reasons. #1 as has been mentioned before, very few things that resist lethal also strongly resist cold. ice sword seems to do very nice damage to almost EVERYTHING, without the gaps for certain enemy groups that, say, energy has. Ice patch is BRUTAL, locking down whole spawns while you take a step backwards and catch them with your cones. even things that are immune to slows will be sprawling and flopping all over the place. Frigid Protection is vastly more powerful than the tanker (Chilling Embrace) version, right out of the box... primarily due to it's greater radius. My /ice blaster is, in many ways, far tougher and more capable of dealing with tough/large spawns than my SCRAPPERS are. Not only does it slow their attacks by 20%, but it also reduces ALL damage within it's huge radius by the same amount. That's like having a 35% damage resistance to everything within short range (Not just melee range) that stacks with any other defense/resists you can plop in there.... not to mention that it tends to keep everything tightly clumped together for cones and aoe's. Not only that, but you know those guys with machine guns, poisons, and the like that do dot damage to you? well, guess what... FP's protection refreshes every second and a half... I have had a dozen council guys long-spraying me, and I take NO damage from it whatsoever... all those little 2 point hit? FP eats them for breakfast. Shiver stacks on more -recharge, and touch (of course) provides a full service hold... which, even if it doesn't stick as a hold, STILL provides debuffs. Archery/Ice ... the only think it lacks is +perception.

Mr. Vee
I guess my reply got zapped in the forum migration. Here's my arch/ta build. I'm only at level 30 but I make a final build to level with if i'm familiar enough with the powers so I can throw attuned versions of my final IOs as I go. It's already very fun and easy with insta-snipe (kismet, a level 25 to-hit IO in tactics and the offensive buff from P2W does it) and the kb to kd in explosive arrow. Bonfire is just going to be added lulz to my 15 second RoA at 50. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 2.22http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! I was happily thinking "well obviously I'm going to just go /TA with my archer, since that makes the most sense!" But nooooo. I had to read this thread. Now I'm having QUESTIONS. I'm starting to wonder if I should go /ice instead. Or /NRG. Blah! Blah, I say. Maybe I'll just flip a coin. Or maybe I'll just make ALL of them. Hmph. Really the only thing nrg has going for it that I enjoy is the range booster, You rarely need to worry about mobs being spread out too far apart as you can tag them all easily with your aoe attacks. Other than that the set doesn't offer a whole lot else. I'm not a fan of "blapping" so the melee attacks are either a waste of time or only there to hold IO sets.

In my leveling build (above), I probably depend too much on Aim, Upshot, and Tactics. You might prefer to add a few +Acc, instead. @Rathstar Energy/Energy Blaster (50+3) on Everlasting Energy/Temporal Blaster (50+3) on Excelsior Energy/Willpower Sentinel (50+3) on Indomitable Energy/Energy Sentinel (50+1) on Torchbearer
Mr. Vee
I'm torn now. Can't decide if I want to keep my 4 slotted ESD arrow for slightly better set bonuses and super-situational power against robots (anything it'd hold is already dead from my RoA), or switch to a 4 cloud senses Flash Arrow which would be more useful more often (7% -to hit). If the latter i'm not sure if i'd be better off slotting the damage proc or leaving it out so as not to aggro when using flash for glowie grabbing situations. Thoughts? I play my Archery/Tactical Arrow in the spirit of my old Trick Arrow/Archery Defender. So my selection of toys includes everything from the secondary and treats them like Defender-lite powers. Except Glue Arrow which mules damage procs. I was on the fence about using damage procs in Electric Net Arrow and Ice Arrow, because c'mon that's broken stuff, but opted not to do it. So I say... why not both? 😉
Mr. Vee
No room for both. I ended up going with flash and threw the damage proc in there. will just rely on my ranged defense and the -to hit for whichever enemies aggro from it in glowie situations.
