What IS an Incarnate/Lore summoned creature?

Recommended Posts

Kind of a for fun question 🙂

So what ARE Incarnate summons?  I mean, I know they're pets, and the in-game description says "This essence has been conjured out of the mists of the Well of the Furies, a study of an enemy made substance and brought to heel."

But is it, like the soul of a dead person?  Or maybe several souls mixed together into a generic archetype?

A soulless composite of a concept born from our collective semiconscious maybe?  (If so, why would I summon an enemy?  Why not the idea of "justice personified" or something?)

A projection of my own fears?

A blueprint of a "training dummy" turned outwards?

What are your thoughts?  I'd love to know if there is an official explanation but don't be afraid to share your own theories.

I've generally considered them the same as the "reflections" you fight in Mender Ramiel's arc - which, as I recall, still aren't really explained.  (Whether they're related to the same sort of thing in the Shard, I don't know.)

Though the name sort of implies they're not "really" what they look like.

All human experience leaves impressions on the well as it accumulates the collective potential of humanity. These mobs, fought in great battles by champions of humanity, leave their own impressions as well. By using your character's connection to the Well of Furies, you can draw out these impressions temporarily to fight by your side.

Final Battle of Marvel's End Game pretty well shows to me how you can justify any lore-ish summoning.  You had everything from magic to tech summoning things to fight.

In other words, the justifications/explanations are only limited by your creativity.

I view them as a sort of "echo of reality" - not exactly a sentient entity or them being brought back from the dead, but sort of an image, illusion, or memory made real, if that makes sense...

Okay here is my personal head canon. The first and for a long time only 50 I ever had on Live was my BS/Regen scrapper, Trixibelle. Now back in them days, children, in order to have some of the weapon skins you had to unlock them, like the Roman sword, and the Rularuu blades etc. To unlock the Rularuu skin you had to defeat a certain number of Overseers in the Shadow Shard, so it was an accomplishment. And who doesn't want a huge broadsword with a mobile eye in the hilt, right? So I hunted the critters, unlocked it and carried it proudly, and it's still about my favorite skin for BS.

So when Trixibelle became an Incarnate, it made thematic sense to choose Rularuu Lore pets, because who doesn't want a giant floating eye that can munch your enemies as a pet, right??? I named him Ivan. His partner Lore pet, a Noble Brute I named Noble Bruce. And I decided that the Well allowed Trixi to summon these two from the Shadow Shard, because when she was spending all that time there earning her sword, these two just decided to follow her around and adopt her for some reason, like curious stray cats. "Bart only man ever whip Mongol... Mongol impressed!"

When the time is up, they go back to the Shard until she can summon them again.

That's my explanation. *^_^*

There is a “in game” example in the incarnate arc a 50. The 1st arc at 50 to get the one “shard”. (They should really change this to maybe an emp?) In the last mission you see tons of “echo” enemies.

much of it will depend on whether you take the lore as scripted and played as verbatim or whether you put your own spin on it.

Personally I see them as physical manifestations of your own power, like some of the controller pseudo-pets that must be resummoned periodically. They cannot exist on their own - they need you as the PC to give them even a temporary life - and their form is whatever their caster wishes - usually a manifestation of creatures the caster has encountered and defeated previously.

There's a fine line between a numerator and a denominator but only a fraction of people understand that.

Oh I could certainly make up my own cool ideas if I wanted to 🙂  First I am trying to figure out the canon (if any!)  Gotta learn the rules before you can responsibly break them.

That's fair comment.

Personally I pretty much gave up on Incarnate lore after my first ever play through on live because I just find the story to be completely sub-par
