  1. Name Generator: In the main character screen, you want it to just spit out a random combo of words?  Or for naming AE mobs? Or what?  There are some online resources for that, I think someone here made one.
  2. That won't happen, I don't think having a threesome set on a meteor map on Indom just sitting there generating stuff for a week is something anyone really wants.
  3. Isn't that like at 200 or so?  There's a technical reason behind that not wanting to be grown more.  Sometimes I think the DB interactions are more convoluted than the usual complaint about spaghetti code.
  4. The only thing is if someone isn't in AE/TF/Mission/base; If they're logging out from timing out, it only takes a sec to log back in once they're done with their interruption
  5. N/A
  6. Never liked the full mask anyway, so no comment
  7. They have been bringing in some. Full incarnate tree, no idea if that's even being looked at, but there are some topics about them
  8. Leveling pacts didn't work quite right and were disabled.  I don't know what is needed to get that functional again.  It was disabled before sunset and briefly up on HC I think, but caused issues, hence shutdown again.
  9. There's a ton of solo content, and some of the new arcs are very solo friendly.  Rewards seem to match fine.

1. They do. It's called "your own creativity." Located in the squishy mass between your ears.

2. No. Not only do we not need 24/7 AFK farming, but there are server load reasons.

3. Eh.

4. No. It takes someone half a second if something comes up to say "Kid's on fire, afk a minute." People do so all the time. If you want to just AFK and soak up XP and rewards in the TOT league - no.

5. No. They have to actually *maintain the game.* This means balance and adjustments. If you don't *like* it, go to ourodev, download a copy of the (at-shutdown or at-HC-launch) server. Takes maybe an hour to set up. You can do all you want there.

6. Meh.

7A. They are bringing in new powers. You may have noticed Symphony Control, Marine Affinity, Storm Blast...

7B. Assuming you're meaning things like genesis, mind, vitae, etc - they don't HAVE the "full incarnate tree." There was, in fact, no "full incarnate tree." It would have just kept going - *including* making prior Incarnate powers obsolete. The only ones we have information on, I have listed in my "Out to EAT" guide (see signature) and frankly the things they were proposing were OP and kind of ridiculous. On top of it, content for them (also increasingly ridiculous) would have to be generated.

8. Level pacting was broken and removed because of it. It wasn't a power.

9. There's plenty of solo content. It's the majority of the game. And it's rewarding just fine for the levels it's at.

Sounds like most of these are a whole load of "I don't want to play the game, I just want to soak up rewards for doing nothing," quite frankly.

1 - There is a wide array of name generators available. fantasynamegenerators.com for instance has name generators themed for content. Hit up their Pop Culture list at the top of the page for several options, or look through their other themes for what best works for you.

2 - We will never get endless mobs. The devs aren't specifically anti-farming, but neither will they do something so specifically for farming as infinite resource gathering on a single map.

3 - The Global Friends list has been brought up before, like @lemming said. If I remember correctly, it is at the game engine's limit already.

4 - If you need to go AFK for an extended period of time, there are ways to do so. Be in your SG base is one way. Be on a TF/SF is another. It takes the game at least 10 minutes to flag your not currently active character as being AFK, and then there is another timer after that flag is applied before you are asked if you want to stay in the game. And then there is a timer after you get that popup before you actually get logged off. So AFKers from minor reasons are already provided means of staying in the game, and AFKers from major reasons have options they can employ to avoid being auto-logged off.

5 - What are you talking about?

6 - White works that way for all costume options that include skin or can be used so. I don't remember the limitation/reason for it doing so.

7 - They already are. For instance, we got the Storm Blast and Marine Affinity sets added. As for the full incarnate tree, which one(s)? As @Greycat has pointed out on other threads, there were multiple trees the Live devs were developing. (And also, it would be more helpful to have content where such powers served a purpose. Our current incarnate powers are already God Mode for the game, even for incarnate content.)

Smiley Face, I mean, 8 - The Leveling Pact was apparently disabled back on Live for constantly breaking. Supposedly, even if both players were careful to not break the pact, it would still break.

9 - Mission rewards already match our levels for the content being done and we can solo anything that isn't an iTrial or specific TF. We can even solo most TFs and SFs.

Why did I think this thread was about ideas for "couples" playing CoH?

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

1)  put in a name Genrator in the game,

I don't think we need more shoestring code crammed into the game.  Further, officially implementing a name-generator would also require the devs/mods to go through each and every name to make sure they're permissible, which would take up a lot of time for little gain.

2) Give us Endless Mobs in AE, (farmer)

While I, personally, have no issue with farmers and those who get PL'd but know how to actually play, I don't think they should further encourage or support such behavior.

3) Raise the Global Friends list, All my accounts are at max.

I don't really have any strong feelings on this one way or the other, so sure...

4)Don't mess with afkers, ( there may be a reason he/she is afk, kids, eating, Badges, Disable, or any other reason.

If you have to step away for an extended period of time, then just log off or allow the afk timer to run its course.  Since this is a free game, I don't think the devs owe anything to people who aren't even there, playing.

5) Stop being over lords,You say play the game the way you like, Then boom, you nerf it, (AE)  or you nerf the powers,

There will always be some segment of people who do not like a particular decision the devs have made.  Your word choice belies your position on the dev team, so maybe give one of the other private CoH servers a try.

6) Work on the full mask color. ( white makes it look like you just have a bald head,

This is a side effect of how tinting or color appliques work on skin.  If you pick one of the non-skin head options, you'll see that the colors apply as normal.  I don't know if this is something that could be so readily fixed, (maybe they could try making a few regular heads that are actually cloth or leather instead of "skin"?).

7). Bring in new powers and Open up the full incarnate tree.

What powers?  What's missing from incarnates?  If they're features that aren't actually in the code already & complete, then it'd require a lot of dev time/work to properly implement.

😎 there use to be a power of some sort on live where if 2 players teamed up and one logged he would still get xp as long as the other player didn't leave the joined party,it was like side kicking but it wasn't that,

Do you mean level pacts?  If so, they were disabled/made defunct some time ago, back on live IIRC.

9) Make more solo content for players who don't like to team, An give them rewards to match their levels.

This already exists.  What, specifically are you looking for, here?

Others have said a lot of what I would, but I really want to focus on these.

1 - Any such generator would have to include only generic names to be of use to everyone, and thus would be of questionable use to many if not most players.

Putting "The Human Icicle" in as a name would be a bad option since it would only (reasonably) apply to characters with ice powers of some sort.  At the same time, though, a great many heroes base their name on their powers.

Then you have "costume" names.  Ratman has a costume styled after a rat because as a child he fell into a cave full of rats and thought that the imagery would be frightening to criminals.  It is also a name that is only useful if the character looks somewhat rat-ish.

And colors as well.  Can't have the "Red This" or "Black That" because the game has no idea what colors you used on your costume.  So if you can't think of a name on your own (with or without the assistance of a thesaurus amd/or encyclopedia) that would be better than the generic junk that such a generator would produce I don't know what to say.

2 - So you just want to park your Mastermind in a mission and go on vacation?  Something like that?

3 - I don't think that my real-life friends list would have 200 names in it, and that would be including friends that I have long-since lost contact with but would keep in the list anyway for old-time's sake.

But the limit is the limit.  It won't be increasing.

4 - If you want to play the game then play the game.  If you expect to be gone for a bit and really don't want to get logged out then go to a SG HQ or something, but it takes seconds to log back in if you are even auto-logged in the first place.

Again, assuming this isn't a "park my mastermind here and come back in three hours to see if my minions killed enough <whatever> for the badge" situation, which I suspect it may be.

5 - Some semblance of balance is an important part of the game.  I get that you want infinite AFK enemy farming, but that is not where I would wager most players are.  I suspect that they want a game that is fun, at least a little bit challenging (a big part of the fun), and that doesn't make them feel like they are being punished if they choose certain powers or combinations, or certain ATs, over others.  If you are unhappy that some power set or AT that was over-powered is no longer so, well, other people are probably happier that the game offers more of a challenge or that some people are no longer only looking for a certain set or combination of powers on certain ATs.

That's the beauty of a name generator: you can roll again.  If one doesn't like the "ice" name, something different will eventually show.  I've known a name generator or two that spits out a list of names for you to select from, and still reroll.  So there's room to maneuver there.

One thing I do not like about dev-created name generators:  they're prone towards taking a shortcut, cheating off another player's efforts.  Case in point: back when I was playing WoW,  I put a lot of thought into my characters' names to tie them in to their race's lore and power sets.  I would go and test a name against the master role of all names, both active and inactive across all realms.  I wanted uniqueness.  Once I found a name I liked that had no other character with that name, I would take it.  Unfortunately, I discovered the developer's "cheated" in their generator design, and would steal names from other players as soon as they were created.  Within a short time, sometimes within a day or two, I'd find several players having adapted my unique names.

A fantasy name generator has the "luxury" of being able to play a mix-and-match game with one or two syllable sounds if the game wants to go that way.  Sounds are sounds and who is to say that a "fantasy name" makes sense or not?  Brizendak, Brizentel, Casodak, Casotel...  Add a first or second syllable and you keep growing exponentially.

But superheroes use very different naming conventions*.  I suppose they could install a bunch of colors, then add a handful of names with an eye towards certain power sets, and end up with "Red Flame", "Blue Flame", "Green Flame", "Chartreuse Flame", then repeat for ice, lightning, gun, fist, arrow, etc.
But then there are single name heroes, too.  And heroes that combine two words into one word.  And heroes that do not use a codename at all.  I'd like to think that intentional misspellings could be added by the player, but if they struggle so mightily to come up with a name on their own, either because of a lack of imagination or they just can't bring themselves to care enough to bother, then I am not sure that I would bet on that.

I could go on, but it all seems such a waste of time.

It all adds up to a lot more work for fewer useful names.
And then the inevitable happens.  You click and you click and you click and then you finally find a name that you like and...  It's already taken.
I guess the devs could put in even more work to allow players to guide the name generator towards something more useful to them;  A box that you could check for "no codename", for example.  Now that gunslinger of yours won't have to filter through all the useless "Shadow Fist" or "Mauve Lightning" or whatever and will instead go through a hundred combinations of common names before deciding what they like.  And they could maybe set it up to where when a name is taken it will not show up anymore, but that is even more work.

So if there are generators out there?  Great.  Let someone sticky a thread with "miscellaneous resources" in it and link the various name-generating sites.
I already mentioned an encyclopedia or thesaurus as a way to find names, partially or in full.  Checking synonyms for 'hero' in a thesaurus shows me 12 matches for "person noted for acts of courage or good", 12 more for "role model or idol", and 8 for "godlike being".  Some better than others, in my mind, and I could add a color to any of those.  I could maybe work a power into a combination with one of those names.  "Vermillion Knight" or "Ice Knight" for a couple of examples.  And then I could check synonyms for any of the synonyms to go deeper.  Checking "knight" gives me 14 more strong matches and two weak matches.  Another 16 possibilities as a name or name-starter.

If someone wants a no-codename hero?  Try a phone book.  Go to any number of sites and just look at people's names.  Walk around a bookstore and look at author names.  The world is full of 'normal' names.  Do your own mixing and matching.

Just a little imagination goes a long way.

But to put the work in to do it here?  There are better things to do with that time, I think.

Edited by OEM61
Edit *Or not. There could be a medieval warrior with an axe and plate armor (invulnerability) brought into Paragon City and so using a "fantasy name" would be fine, but that's just more stuff to clutter up the name generator if it isn't what you want.

And we already have enough issues with 1-3 Bots MMs set to Aggressive Follow idling away with Group Fly active in the courtyard of the murder motel, leeching away XP from the league members who are actually knocking on the doors; we don't need to institutionalize it so that anyone can be an untouchable leech.
