Share your UI Setup

So I'm trying to find a UI setup that I like and I was curious to see what others' setups look like for inspiration (and out of just genuine interest to see the differences).

This is what mine looks like currently:

I generally recolor the UI to fit the characters color theme as well.

It's a custom window! They're basically a combo txt/mnu file you make and an in game command that basically gives a window and whatever macros you put in it that's shared across all your characters, without needing to do slash commands or anything for it every time. RP and SPN (Show Player Name) are toggles, the rest are self explanatory macros.

Mine's pretty straightforward.  I placed trays 4 & 5 in that position because, due to my hand movements with the mouse, they're much closer to a minimized distance from trays 2 & 3.  I'm probably weird, but I use the keyboard for tray 1 but can't standing to keep thinking through what extra key I need to push to activate each other tray, so I use the mouse for those. 

Tray 4 is always set up this way on every character with the S.T.A.R.T.  Prestige Utilities up top and in that order, and the Fast Travel and Cosmic Platform at the bottom.  If a character takes teleport powers, they go to the middle row.  Tray 5 will always hold any rez powers and will hold any day job powers that require a button to activate.

 

The one major difference I've created these past few months is the addition of tray 6.  While I'd prefer to have my rest and travel powers stacked above all my fight, defense, and debuff powers, the main tri-tray fills up on some of my other characters, and it is just not designed to allow an addition tray above tray 3 without interference from all the pop-ups up top.  So I removed Rest and all travel powers, placed them in tray 6 and placed it below the tri-tray setup.  I had a bit of a mental adjustment, undoing nearly 2 decades of muscle memory conditioning, but I'm finally feeling the groove, and tray 3 is now free for those that need more room for fight/defense/buff-debuff stuff.

 

(The character is Will Begone, Mind/Psi dominator)

Oooh, I actually really like that setup. How do you have the Influence, Level Shift and Threat Level above your map?

Sweet thanks! And I didn't think to have a chat tab in the middle for a dedicated thing. Though I'm curious how you got your Custom Window to say up there, I have to constantly move mine and putting it on any of the borders causes it to make around.

Tray 1 & 2 are my click powers. Tray 3 is my toggles. I may have to overflow into other trays if I'm on a toggle-heavy character. Tray 8 is my 'social/utility' bar. Tray 9 is where long-recharge stuff goes... once every 30m type stuff. Mystic Fortune usually goes there, as well as that 'W' button, which resets my UI per-character for when Penny Yin leaves it in a mess. Penny, girlfriend, why you gotta throw my inspirations everywhere?! Do I throw your gate next to the hospital in IP every.. okay, yes I do. I'm sorry. I'll try to stop that.

 

My 'Global' chat window displays server/global chat channels as well as zone events. I keep 'No General' and 'No Chatter' options for when I'm trying to avoid current events, movie spoilers, or just feel like I need to focus on what I'm doing and answering /help chat is distracting.

The green Fast Travel menu icon in tray 8 hosts my custom popmenu based on HC's default fast travel menu.

Yellow icon immediately next to it is AboveTheChemist's BadgeSetList popmenu. It's a game changer. I no longer have to hunt through a non-alphabetical menu to see if I have a badge or not.

 

Map (optional, toggled with the default M key) is in the upper right.

Purple icon is my own 'Chatter' menu that contains some ascii/unicode emotes (these are all characters found in msgothic.ttf), macros for setting up some hotkeys and my per-character UI saves, as well as instructions for my favorite 4-person trial and web links to CoH-related materials like Dacy's YT Channel, City of Data, the (currently still broken I think?) calendar, and a few others.

I play on an ultra-wide, so I've got a lot of screen real estate to watch stuff explode. I'm at work at the moment so I can't post it, and I tried drawing it in paint but...my drawing skills with a mouse are terribad. 🙂 

But I'll post a screenshot when I get home!

this is a little more than my base set up, but not even the worst, my arsenal/trick arrow has 10+ location based AOEs that all have macros for target and myself... 😄

PS. i have macros buried in unused trays that when i find them and press them to see what they do, since i forget everytime, it shouts a Pepe Lepew quote in the current channel... 🤪

Pretty much default UI for me, I don't generally modify default layouts in games unless they're really bad, though I opened a few extra power trays, and keep a seperate window for Help/General chat.  I do change my UI colors based on where my character started however: default blue for Heroes, red for Villains and grey for Praetorians.

As my sample picture demonstrated, I can't stand to have clutter down below the feet of my character.  There's a column of space I like to keep clear of everything except the character and the melee range combat around him.  That said, the minimal approach you have displayed is not bad, though with my habit of doing quick scans through Enhancements, Salvage, Recipes, etc., I'd probably be highly annoyed with any window overlaying my character, even temporarily.  But yeah, not bad.

 

Glad you mentioned the chat.  I forgot to point out that with every character, I set up an LFG tab.  This is given 5 channels only:  Looking For Group, the three zone event messages (Hero, Villain, Praetorian), and Event Message.  I've experimented in the past with the Request channel as well.  These 6 I find essential to continually monitor.  The rest remain on the other tabs in case I need to refer to one of them, but "LFG" becomes my primary tab.

While I like what you've down with trays 4 & 5, do you not have annoyances with opening enhancements, salvage, etc.?

Yep!  I went ahead and read your signature link page.  Good description.  I would note, and perhaps it is just my computer, but I'd note that for reasons I've yet to figure out, the window occasionally closes on its own, and I have to set it up again.  It's not often, but it does happen.   One other thing:  I wish the combat window could display the computer's clock.  I play full screen, and would prefer to still see the clock.

It doesn't bother me.  I'm not usually opening my enhancement tray in combat.

After 20-ish years of playing. When on an MM I'll move 8 to left of 1 in a 4X3 formation. So far it is the best configuration for my style that I like.

 

TEAM & LEAGUE window go top left.

 

EDIT: I'm a clicker - not a key'er !  😄

I keep a lot of buttons and macros out, and use custom windows quite a lot too. This is my set-up for running pick-up teams.

 

Despite all this, I'm not a clicker in combat, I have a lot of key binds for things that aren't on my main command bar 1.

My own UI is probably slightly more crowded, partially because the UI scale is at 120% because my old eyes couldn't read things at any smaller. I use a lot of extra buttons for keybinds, including "qer" for my basic attack chain, "gfv" for slower or aoe attacks, "xv" for build-up style abilities (or self-heals), and then "c" is always to toggle sprint on/off. I try my best to keep these general setups the same across characters so I can jump back into an alt with at least a rough idea of what the various buttons will do when I press them.

 

I swapped the positions of the target and navigation bar because I hated how pulling down a map during a mission would obscure my entire field of vision, and I found it more helpful to be able to glance up and see my target details at center of vision. The health/etc. bar is pulled down to the right because I want to be able to see it without moving my eyes too much. The combat attributes window will vary on what's displayed (for some reason "Gravity" is stuck on a bunch of my brute characters after I came back instead of fury which I usually tracked on a lot of them). My UI choices have often been described as "cluttered" in other games, but it works for me.

The chat macros are a really good idea for teams. Do you have those up all the time, or is there a way you can call the windows when you need them?

You can open and close them, and move the little closed window-boxes around the screen. There are three closed custom windows in the upper-left corner.

 

Custom windows can be a bit ill-behaved. They're hard to drag around, tricky to resize, and don't always remember their positions. But they're worth it.
