Snarky Posted Wednesday at 10:27 AM Posted Wednesday at 10:27 AM Last few days seeing a lot of 4star ads asking for JUST /cold Corr (plural). Not sure if there is a dedicated team running them all (and none of them want the spam bot duty...) or if everyone has decided this is the only way to run these. I know /cold corr are good, I have one. But are they THAT good in comparison to other Corr etc?
Maelwys Posted Wednesday at 10:57 AM Posted Wednesday at 10:57 AM /Cold is pretty good at force multiplication. Sleet (with lots of recharge to get multiple copies out) by itself would be worth a slot. Throw in Heat Loss plus the +Def/+Res bubbles and Arctic Fog? Its -res debuffs are also fairly fire-and-forget. And they mesh very well with 'Rain' powers like Blizzard; Rain of Fire, Whirlpool, etc. to exploit Scourge. All that said... other Corrs (like /Marine) are pretty damn good too. So my final answer is "Nah, Corrs just tend to be really good in general". 1 1
Skyhawke Posted Wednesday at 12:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:38 PM I made an Ice/Cold corrupter a month ago just to see what's the dealio with it ( I also see that call for /Cold a lot in LFG). Holy shazbot, that thing is a killer! Three aoe damagers with slow and knockdown that I've gotten to the point that they are up super fast. Add Scourge in and I was routinely shredding swaths of enemies in seconds. That's not even talking about putting shields and hoarfrost on teammates, running Arctic Fog as well as being able to lower enemy regen! Mine's only in the late 30s with hardly any sets even! It's just SOs mostly. I gotta admit, the meta on this one is real. 1 Sky-Hawke: Rad/WP Brute Alts galore. So...soooo many alts. Originally Pinnacle Server, then Indomitable and now Excelsior
Scarlet Shocker Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:32 PM If it was just about Sleet, then Storm should be allowed because Freezing Rain is the same power and /Storm gets it sooner All the best chemistry jokes argon
Uun Posted Wednesday at 03:54 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:54 PM I've had a Cold/Beam defender for 5 years, well before hard mode TFs were introduced. It's versatile and highly effective. (Counter to most /Cold corruptors I enhanced the shields, which provide 25.6% defense in my build.) I've run a few 4* TFs with it, as well as with other defenders/corruptors, but I quickly got bored and don't run them any more. I believe most of the ads you're seeing requesting /Cold corruptors for 4* content are coming from the same individual (and also require T4 Barrier). 4 minutes ago, Scarlet Shocker said: If it was just about Sleet, then Storm should be allowed because Freezing Rain is the same power and /Storm gets it sooner Freezing Rain is better than Sleet. The modifiers for both were corrected in i27p7 (2/20/2024). Corruptor Freezing Rain is -30% res vs. -22.5% for Sleet. 3 Uuniverse
Hedgefund Posted Wednesday at 05:59 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:59 PM I haven't seen Benumb mentioned and that's a differentiator, especially for HM (which I don't run very often so this is based on what I've been told by 4* folks). Neither Marine nor Storm have anything approximating it (I'm a fan of Marine and Storm, probably more than Cold for my own play time) for not just -regen, but -heal, -special, other stuff you can find in CoD. 2

As it relates to the meta, Cold Domination works because of what it buffs and debuffs, and how valuable those things are in that content you are referencing. The ability to Heat Loss, Burnout, Heat Loss (among other Burnout incorporated rotations) make the situational encounters and stacked effects complimentary in that content. 1 I lead weekly Indom Badge Runs / A newer giant monster guide by Glacier Peak / A tour of Pocket D easter eggs! / Arena All-Star Accolade Guide! Usually HMs bring 3 colds a kin and a nature for the insane debuff potentialof cold with the set's okayish buffs on top of the crazy damage of Fulcrum and nature's healing potential. 1 Aspiring show writer through AE arcs and then eventually a script 😛 AE Arcs: Odd Stories-Arc ID: 57289| An anthology series focusing on some of your crazier stories that you'd save for either a drunken night at Pocket D or a mindwipe from your personal psychic.|The Pariahs: Magus Gray-Arc ID: 58682| Magus Gray enlists your help in getting to the bottom of who was behind the murder of the Winter Court.|

Some players are just ...skilled. More skilled than most. Their positioning, their target selection, their reflexes...all that stuff. I used to think that aside from speed of movement, I was one of them. Then I learned enough to figure out I'm not. Close, but not quite. I might overlap a bit, depending on content if I'm on an ice or fire blaster. Only a bit. 1 1

Nope. Some sets may edge ahead. Is Cold THAT good in comparison to others, not really. Def vs -ToHit, AoE vs patches, +MaxHP vs Heal, buffs vs debuffs.. lots of ways to get the job done. I'd take a good ______ player over a FOTM chaser. If a player is a good /Cold pilot, it's good. If a player is a good /Dark, /Kin, /Traps, /etc pilot, they are good. Most players at high levels should be able to use Incarnates, Power Boost, DeBuffs, Burnout, etc.. 1 "Homecoming is not perfect but it is still better than the alternative.. at least so far" - Unknown (Wise words Unknown!)
