hello Dr Mechano, if you are not yet burnt on stake; you have my sympathy.

iynx here, someone, who used to play an uptight and chaste religious character on union.

for a change, i made a sacrilegious and sexually active character as my main on everlasting.

a

big

mistake

...now i am the number one enemy of the evelasting morale police.

they want to build a wall around me and stop me from interacting with potential players, using badmouthing, slander and rumours to achieve this goal.

mind you, i have never actually done any erp in my life; sexuality is only a part of a character, not the whole concept.

i dont know, do the actual erp / mrp / arp players get the same [censored] as me. if they do, you also have my sympathy.

this is not uk my friend; there are some things that really upset the americans.

footnote: do i change my main character and be sorry how i play my character?

no.

because [censored] you bigots. i happen to like my character.

she stays.

keep your rumours coming, they are hilarious.

My group, the Entropy Legion, is purposefully low profile...as in losers. We are semi-competent villains. During CoH Live we were relatively well known, we did a lot of Cape Radio events that were villain themed, which nobody ever did because the favoring of blue side.

Anyways, the Legion has has brushes of Noterietay now and then and then squander those opportunities with villainous blundering. You view those moment in the Newspaper Clips section in our Galley section on our website.

So if you need a /sacasim “great, it’s those guys”, think of the Entropy Legion!

This sounds a bit hyperbolic.  Is it at all possible that you conducted yourself in a way specifically to get a rise out of others?  If you were running around in a populated zone, spouting sacrilegious stuff, especially if it is of a religion that many players are likely to practice IRL, then it doesn't surprise me that you'd get some heat for it.  I also find it odd that you have no problem doing this kind of stuff, but then call others bigots for opposing you?  How do you know they weren't rp-ing as well?

Frankly, I think the best course of action would be to keep real life politics/religion/etc out of the game, and just work within the framework of the existing villain groups...

quick response time there, officer.

however; the religion part stays, too.

and of course, "spouting sacrilegious stuff in a populated zone" is one of the rumours.

it has not been done.

Hence the "if" portion of the statement "If you were running around in a populated zone, spouting sacrilegious stuff".  So what we have, then, is some people say you did some stuff?  You said yourself "for a change, i made a sacrilegious and sexually active character as my main on everlasting" - so how, exactly, would anyone know said character was sacrilegious?  Was it just in your bio, or were you saying stuff in local/broadcast/etc?  You put yourself out there, so can you give some substance to your claims one way or the other?

Not attacking or defending anything, as I'm sure the concept is fine and executed sensibly, and done as a way to create a point of interest in RP (/e strides over with purpose and shouts "Put some god damned pants on!") but...
WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?! 😆

That's like rolling a Nazi character on European servers.
A cross-dressing Russian spy in Russia.
A Giant anthropomorphic bear who is a member of the Chinese communist party on a Chinese server.
or an Englishman who KICKS DOGS on a British server.

There is always going to be more people in those groups who find that sort of thing very uncomfortable OOC, and therefore create complaints.
Other than animal abuse on a British server. That's going to rile up 90% of us, and get you spammed with tells of "((Dude, too far!))"

Trust and consent are the cornerstones of good villain RP after all. Roleplayers are a prissy bunch and the majority really don't like bad things happening to their characters or having their sensibilities challenged. If you're unsure if your plot is too much, ask them and move on if it is. Eventually you'll find a group that is willing to be the rivals of your own and you can work to make quality conflict driven RP.

After all nothing I hate more than having a long running RP event suddenly crashed when an unbeatable god being character just shows up and ruins everything. For that reason, as hilarious as it would be, Blackwell doesn't order Cesspit to go crash whatever 'Super Teen Beach Party' is currently running.

I doubt anyone on Everlasting gives a hot damn if a character is sexually active... Unless that character is a Minor.

I'm curious, @iynx, would you mind posting perhaps a picture of your character and their Bio? Maybe give an example of how the character is 'Sacreligious'?

Given that I've seen quite a few "risque" and button-pushy characters on Everlasting already, I'm curious as to which group/clique may have ousted you.  I know of a few small groups who have formed entirely around specific extremes of edginess, bad taste, and/or raunch and thrive within their pocket communities.

In short:  "Know your audience."  You may have presented your character to the worst possible social group for that particular character to be presented to.

here to shoot down rumours: no, character was an adult.

and no, not giving examples and no more attention to trolls. if i find a suitable redside group, maybe i play her again in there. should you have a serious roman catholic horror themed villain group, we will continue discussion in private. otherwise, no.

the game is supposed to be fun, and it seems like the trolls are very few in numbers. lets not let them spoil the fun.

The reason I say is simple: Rogue Entertainment exists. And has always existed.

Back on CoH they started up their literal "Porn Studio" Supergroup. I think it was in CoV? And it lasted the entire life of CoH. And had a Branch on Champions Online. When CoH died, they focused all their efforts on the CO Branch. And now? They're on Everlasting.

To be clear: I've got no problem with the group (I've had characters in the group on Virtue -and- Champions Online!). I'm just using them as a prime example of why I think the character being 'Sexually Active' probably wasn't the reason.

VT's got a point there... Not every character is appropriate for every group or setting.

No matter how much *you* may like the idea you've come up with, roleplaying is very much a group activity. That means it's good to have at least some awareness of (and consideration for-)  the style and tone of the group you're going to be running that character with, or the people who are likely to be playing around you in a public setting. If you have a high-conflict, high-drama group that likes to hang out in a strip club and talk about their fetishes, that's going to have a very different vibe than walking in on a group that's playing high school heroes worrying about getting their homework done and who's going to ask who to the Homecoming dance.

It's not a Bad Thing to keep the potential audience in mind.

And yeah. There are PLENTY of characters on Everlasting that are overtly sexual. There are also plenty that are disturbing in some way, from the intentionally psychopathic to the aggressive and obnoxious. (Hello, Semnai. XD) There's no shortage of "edgy" roleplay on the server or people who enjoy it.... You just need to find the group that fits the story you want to tell.

epilogue: talking to people helps.

after reaching out to people, and people reaching out to me, it has come to a conclusion there is not a group of bad mouthers. there is only one person, with whom i need to get in touch with.

the conclusion is to reach out to that person, and talk things through.
sorry for bothering the whole community, this could have been handled with much less disturbance.

we have a great community.

So thoughts anyone?

It is a shame that the original idea is not doable, though I totally understand why. My one villain is a real eco-terrorist, bent on the destruction and hopefully extinction of the entire human race in retribution for all they have done to Mother Earth (Beast/Nature MM). Would have been a funny mix with all the incels and climate deniers in the aforementioned type of VG, since those are the type of people she would hate the most.

It is just a shame that we can't build something more server wide. I do miss the huge group storytelling of Union but alas, it just isn't possible on Everlasting it seems since it does seem to take after the Virtue model of everything being self-contained. Still I guess I shall have to adapt.

Honestly? Union back in the day was a miracle. I don't know HOW everyone agreed to make RP server wide but it just happened, we caught lightening in a bottle and it was a stretch even back then. But now with a community this large on Everlasting? There's not a chance. SGs can collaborate and as Moka mentioned In The Papers! is a good way to connect stories and events together.

I've been thinking about starting a magic-themed supervillain group. I want to call it "Future Midnighters of America" or something like that. There's so much magic lore invested in CoV that's just dying to be exploited! (Intelligent spells! Circle of Thorns! Those carnivals! And, yes, the Midnighters!)

What are your thoughts?

This sounds like it could be a lot of fun!  How do you feel about techno-magic or biomancy?  :-)

Any idea which server this would be on?  I'd love to "field test" a few ideas/concepts I have...  :-)

EDIT:  I'm going to assume it'll be on 'Everlasting', unless I hear otherwise.

I honestly don't think we ever truly did, we just got lucky in the fact that we had a good percentage of SGs who wanted a brand of storytelling that could merge together with some fudging and creativity.
What was important to the mix is that we had quite a few people who would spark a dialogue between SG/VGs OOC to see where things go. In truth, it was never quite server-wide, its just the biggest SGs were usually involved in some kind of cross-plot, and it made appear to be a server-wide narrative.
X knows Y and acknowledged event A. Z doesn't know X, but interacts with Y, and therefore knows/acknowledges event A IC. and so on down the line until some petty criminal in Mercy Island knows Mr and Mrs Atom (nee nuclear) have got married, and is determined to put a flaming dog turd in a bag on their doorstep to punish them for being happy. But if you wanted to do your own thing, and not be part of that, there was enough space to do so.

Maybe it's because virtue was too big to allow these webs to form like Union, maybe it WAS insular, or maybe the styles of RP between those groups varied too much.
But if it was the size, we're not as big as we used to be, maybe it can happen again.

I was going to make a huge post about how I saw past the veneer of the Union meta-narrative following the "Rikti War Council" and the later attempt to set up an open door OOC plot brainstorming roundtable to make what was already happening a bit more tangible, but the reaction from some parts of the community towards that is still a sour point for me, and I doubt I could keep it civil if one of the group that branded me elitist and trying to dictate RP chimed in, they were a big part of why I moved to Virtue from Union.

As for those who I remember being part of the big server plots, you guys were amazing, I'll be coming to find you when I get back in to things properly.
