  1. Nearly two years just to add an "I like it?" Anyone saying "Threads should be necro-able to add important information!" - that's not important information.
  2. While it's amusing for one very short mission, I'm in the camp of those who'd absolutely hate it - even before getting to the "permanently retire" and "can't join teams." (I tend to just zip to the mender and hit the dialog trees because after the first time or two, it's just not that interesting any more to me.) (Also, as far as "just ouro it" for new content - doesn't help if it's a task force.) Plus I could see any permanent change like that causing problems down the line - I'm an altaholic, I've got a ton of characters, but I could see someone doing this to a favourite character and then... "Wait, I can't join my friends doing stuff? How do I undo this?" being an issue.
  3. Nope. It's an opinion I have, and have voiced. Yes, I already do "headcanon" things, but I try to avoid names/themes that pigeonhole stuff. I mean, Dark-whatever powers (armor, blast, etc.) in their descriptions insist you're "drawing from the netherworld," and *that* annoys me too, and that's always been part of the game. So I'm voicing that view in preference of *not* having something else to handwave away.
  4. And that isn't an "HC Devs" thing, anyway - the gimmicks started coming on live (momentum, for instance.) On the one hand, they're a way to differentiate and add flavor to sets, so I get that. On the other, they definitely can take away from the set for some people (or they just get ignored, like seems to be the case for most of Dual Blades.) As far as the rest of the OP? I could go with either. I don't know that I'd want a full set just called "speedster melee"- specifically with the name kind of implying a limit on the characters to use it - but that's neither here nor there, really. (And I haven't seen or taken Whirlwind in a while - maybe give it the Singularity treatment, you spin, create a vortex that brings enemies in, does some DOT as you hit them, and they get flung up? *shrug*)
  5. Dont' know if it's been mentioned before (and/or I'm just blind...) but - The guard towers and guard shack (for instance, outside the blue entrance to Siren's Call or one of the portal buildings in PI.) Heck, if they're not one piece, the top "guard post" of the towers might be useful on their own...)
  6. Honestly, I'd almost like a bit more - as in, instead of tip missions, you end up with an arc - one that still *takes* you through the history plaques for a specific badge, but has you at least having to deal with (say) some trolls for Said No To Superdyne. Mostly to at least give some acknowledgement that there's lore behind them thar clickies. But that's me.
  7. I'll be honest, I keep forgetting about them. Being able to do this as a bit of customization like that would be nice.
  8. Pyrolicious, in the chalet, for one. I know he died post-HC since he was part of a SG I'm in here, and he got the majority of our base built before he passed. (We chose to leave his character(s) on permanent inactive reserve.) Edit: When was Todogut added? I want to say I didn't see him there in earlier MSRs...
  9. It's part of why I rarely delete characters, honestly... I've had the 'this character just doesn't click for me' - come back a year later - 'this character's awesome!" experience several times. Even with my live-namesake, a fire/ss tanker.
  10. Being able to push the game out the door and finish up higher content earlier. They did the same thing with COV, too. You don't *need* level 40-50 content when absolutely everyone is at level 1.
  11. We don't all play at 50+, though other than a few pieces (KB protection, Panacea) I don't aim for the lowest level stuff. While I'll set stuff, I'll often get it attuned. I don't *worry* about sets, but I'll fit useful things in as they come along. And attuned itself is a good enough reason to craft and put things in the AH, as they're a part of the same "pool" as the non attuned, after all.
  12. So, things to know about debt: - Other than badge progress, it really didn't matter. It used to - I started in issue 3. First 50 was a blaster. I spent whole levels in debt in the late 30s (which was even more of a pain as it was easy to run out of content.) I also hit the old cap of 1.1 million, starting at zero, in one Hami raid. These days? The debt cap is lower, you get half debt in missions (a change from live,) and don't start accruing it 'til level 10. - If you have patrol XP (the bits of the XP bar kind of colored in, which you earn just from being logged off,) it'll eat that first instead of actually being something to work off. If you have the experienced booster and fire it off while you have debt, it'll probably erase what you have. - If you don't have patrol XP, XP earned (at least partially) goes toward "paying off debt." Doesn't affect your income. - If you don't want to hover over the bar to see how much debt you have, use the Combat Attributes monitor. It's a handy little thing you can set up with up to ten attributes - I'll often have current HP, certain defenses or resistance percentages, Fury on a brute (just "damage bonus",) XP to next level, level shift, and INF, but there's a lot to choose from. It shows up as a little window you can position on your screen. Setting that up: Here's a link to my old guide - it's on the wayback machine, so it might be a bit slow. https://web.archive.org/web/20120904161832/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=127734
  13. If we were still stuck where we were in the early days, at 8 slots per server - or even "if you have COH and COV..." 12 slots, I could see an argument for seeing how broken trying to do this to the code would be. We have 1000 slots per server, though, and getting to 50 - even without PLing - isn't exactly a slog. And a test server that lets you go to insta-50, all the INF you need, pick up sets at levels, etc. to not just theorycraft but test out builds. Besides, it may not *be* possible. We've been told since forever that there are four things baked in to every character to where they're not changeable - AT, Origin, Primary and Secondary. There just flat out may not be a way to do so - and/or, of course, it wouldn't be seen as worth the effort because of the previously mentioned abundance of slots.
  14. Eh. Sounds a little too gimmicky, honestly. Besides, it locks out anyone running on smaller teams. And, quite honestly, there aren't really "core hero" or "core villain" ATs any more with everything available everywhere - I'd hate to have my (say) heroic mastermind who's done nothing but try to help the city, save people, feed homeless puppies and catgirls, etc. be forced into a "villainous" anything because they're a mastermind.
  15. Eh, I read it and think - aside from the other options we already have - that having something that prevents you rolling back and forth to the *same* IOs multiple times (normally something within a set, granted) would be nice. Probably be game-able, though. I do know I've had more than a few instances where it seems I'm rolling in a set (or even category) and getting something like: Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Dam/End Positron's Glowing Nosehar: Acc/Dam Positron's Glowing Nosehair: End/Rech (at which point, I give up, buy the thing, try to convert something completely unrelated and get what I just bought....) So, a streakbreaker of sorts might be nice, but other than that...
  16. ... you know, I can think of some characters who would *definitely* have this in their rooms/offices (and not just kids.) Yeah, kind of small - figure those would be about the size of the table napkin dispenser - but they'd still be big enough to see and recognize.
  17. You see that thing at the top - the title of the thread? Hardest AT COMBINATION TO PLAY SOLO. We're answering the question. You're missing the point while trying to prove you're smarter than everyone else. The thread's not about "Oh, King Biostem, please tell me how I'm playing wrong." You want that thread, make it.
  18. I do... eh, whatever fits the character. I'm fine with the majority of melee sets. Dislikes... titan weapons (I hate the Momentum mechanic, especially when it runs out JUST as you get to the next group so your swing... is... .painfully... slow...,) Psionic ... I have one or two and there's just something about it that... eh. It's an all right set, there's just something about the feel of it that just isn't *there.* And Kinetic Melee will always be "nascar melee" to me from the sound effects. All the swirly hand waving kind of reminds me or the constant pistol-flipping of Dual Pistols and makes it hard to find a character it fits. I have ... one, I think, maybe two, and I don't think I've ever gotten one to 50. Most amusing bit in any melee set, for me, has to be the assassin strike dual blades uses. "Got your kidneys!" *SLASH* - just vicious. That said, I think I've generally had an easier time getting non-melee to 50. I just enjoy ranged, controlling or supporting characters more. I don't think I've gotten a Katana, Claws (ignoring seeing what a CEBR was about on live and just kind of shaking my head at the resulting 50) or ... well, several sets to 50.
  19. Run Earth/FF solo. No, it isn't false for some combos. 2x piddly damage is still piddly damage. Especially when you're working your way up and nowhere near the point of "oh, just proc this and proc that and set this and that..."
  20. Slowest things I've ever soloed were two controllers - Earth/FF and Ice/Emp. Very safe, sure, but watching enemies die of old age gets tiring.
  21. Yeah. i've suggested a "force field barrier" (which would also nicely delineate just where they "count" if you kill a runner) for the Zig event. I've sometimes managed to find some and drag them back into the area, but they're not always available. Just setting an auto-reset timer would be helpful. 30 minutes from when anyone starts it, say. So if there's a runner, we're not just screwed. #3 wouldn't be bad either - we already have "inside the Zig" maps that are in use Redside. I don't know how much work it would be to implement - the timer's probably the easiest of all of it - but it'd change it up nicely.
  22. Just ran into this myself, freshly crafted Exploit Weakness Dam/Range, non attuned. (Mentioning mostly as a "still happening," tried giving to another character to put on AH, etc. before coming here. WIll just convert it.)
  23. ... plus potential badge challenges could be created with it. Possibly. (Though they'd probably have to be locked out of attempts in Pocket D or the Shard. Then again, I think Portal or Portal 2 had a "fall time" achievement of some sort and you could set yourself up wherever you wanted there...)
